Practicing True Forgiveness with Holy Spirit

The major difficulty that you find in genuine forgiveness on your part is that you still believe you must forgive the truth, and not illusions. You conceive of pardon as a vain attempt to look past what is there; to overlook the truth, in an unfounded effort to deceive yourself by making an illusion true.

Forgiveness must be practiced, for the world cannot perceive its meaning, nor provide a guide to teach you its beneficence. There is no thought in all the world that leads to any understanding of the laws [forgiveness] follows, nor the Thought that it reflects. It is as alien to the world as is your own reality. And yet [forgiveness] joins your mind with the reality in you.

Let us ask of Him:

Forgiveness seems difficult only when we identify with being a separate identity in a world of separation. In this belief system, there is no justification for forgiveness, for “wrongs” are perceived as real.

True forgiveness comes with letting the Holy Spirit replace our interpretations of what we perceive with His true perception. The Holy Spirit acknowledges what we believe we see, but does not believe it. Holy Spirit’s vision looks beyond our false perceptions to see the Love and the innocence that is the truth eternally.

We must be willing to receive Holy Spirit’s interpretation in place of ours to let true forgiveness heal our minds. This is how we will perceive forgiveness as it is. This is how we relieve the pain of guilt that comes with believing illusions are real. Today we practice true forgiveness by remembering to ask throughout the day, “Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.”

We Accept Love as Love Is

You are the spirit lovingly endowed with all your Father’s Love and peace and joy. You are the spirit which completes Himself, and shares His function as Creator. He is with you always, as you are with Him. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 97, W-pI.97.2:2-4. See also ACIM Lesson 97 Insights.)

We allow ourselves the time to remember that we are the spirit of eternal Love today… We allow ourselves the time to remember that, in truth, we reside in the one Mind of Love… We are the Thought of Love in the Mind of Love…

As we go through our day, many things may come up to disrupt this remembering. But we are vigilant to return to the truth about ourselves again and again through the day. No matter what it looks like in the outer world, the truth is everyone is the eternal Spirit of Love, united with all Love. This truth never changes.

We take the time as we go through our day to accept Love as Love is… to accept God as God is… We all are the eternal Spirit of Love… and this can never change because Love is eternal… And for this we are so thankful.

Rise Above to See the Love

We hold [the world] purposeless within our minds, and loosen it from all we wish it were. Thus do we lift the chains that bar the door to freedom from the world, and go beyond all little values and diminished goals.

Pause and be still a little while, and see how far you rise above the world, when you release your mind from chains and let it seek the level where it finds itself at home. It will be grateful to be free a while. It knows where it belongs. But free its wings, and it will fly in sureness and in joy to join its holy purpose. Let it rest in its Creator, there to be restored to sanity, to freedom and to love.

Everyone in the world wants to be happy. But if we seek for lasting happiness in the world, we will not find it. This is because the world we see is the denial of the Source of true happiness. In our creation, Love gave us all of Itself. And Love brings with it limitless joy. This joy is already ours. But seeking happiness in the world blinds us to the joy that is already ours.

The way to open to Love’s gift of joy is to let ourselves rise above the world by letting go of any value we give to things in the world. These values are barriers to the awareness of Love’s Presence. Today we are willing to let the Holy Spirit help us rise above to see the Love. Love is there to be seen as we lay down the values we have given to the world.

Being Under the Influence of Peace

Forget not that the motivation for this course is the attainment and the keeping of the state of peace. Given this state the mind is quiet, and the condition in which God is remembered is attained. It is not necessary to tell Him what to do. He will not fail. Where He can enter, there He is already. And can it be He cannot enter where He wills to be? Peace will be yours because it is His Will. Today we focus on giving peace a home in our mind… We are mindful of our level of inner peace… We let peace enter every corner of our mind… We let ourselves feel the gentleness and patience that reside in our peaceful state of mind… We open to the wisdom that is inherent in peace… We are willing to receive the inspiration that comes with our peaceful state of mind…

We allow ourselves to feel the happiness and joy that our inner peace brings… Within our inner peace is the knowing of safety and contentment… We know we are in the right place at the right time… We let our inner peace lead the way today… We let ourselves be under the influence of peace and we are filled with gratitude.

Gratitude for True Forgiveness

Forgiveness is the only thing that stands for truth in the illusions of the world. It sees their nothingness, and looks straight through the thousand forms in which they may appear. [Forgiveness] looks on lies, but it is not deceived. It does not heed the self-accusing shrieks of sinners mad with guilt. It looks on them with quiet eyes, and merely says to them, “My brother, what you think is not the truth.”

The strength of [true] pardon is its honesty, which is so uncorrupted that it sees illusions as illusions, not as truth. It is because of this that it becomes the undeceiver in the face of lies; the great restorer of the simple truth. By its ability to overlook what is not there, it opens up the way to truth, which has been blocked by dreams of guilt. Now are you free to follow in the way your true forgiveness opens up to you. This is our true path to awakening from the dream. As we learn and practice true forgiveness, we are lifted up past our barriers to Love and are able to see the truth beyond illusions. In truth everyone is eternally innocent. Loveless behavior comes only from forgetting our true Self. This true Self belongs to everyone. In truth we are joined in the one Mind of Love eternally.

We are so grateful to have found the path to true freedom for ourselves and every brother. Our joining with truth dissolves every barrier to the awareness of Love’s Presence. This is our practice for today.

God Is the Strength in Which We Trust

Do you really believe you can make a voice that can drown out God’s? Do you really believe you can devise a thought system that can separate you from Him? Do you really believe you can plan for your safety and joy better than He can? You need be neither careful nor careless; you need merely cast your cares upon Him because He careth for you. You are His care because He loves you. His Voice reminds you always that all hope is yours because of His care. You cannot choose to escape His care because that is not His Will, but you can choose to accept His care and use the infinite power of His care for all those He created by it. How different our life is when we choose to accept His care and use the infinite power of His care for all our brothers. Worry is replaced by joining with Holy Spirit, which becomes our top priority. Joined with Holy Spirit, inspiration in how to be truly helpful in every situation guides our way. This is our practice for today.

We Remain as Love Created Us

“Only acceptance can be asked of you, for what you are is certain.

“I will accept Atonement for myself,
For I remain as God created me.

We have not lost the knowledge that God gave to us when He created us like Him. We can remember it for everyone, for in creation are all minds as one. And in our memory is the recall how dear our brothers are to us in truth, how much a part of us is every mind, how faithful they have really been to us, and how our Father’s Love contains them all.” (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 139, W-pI.139.8:1;11:3-6. To accept the Atonement for ourselves means to accept correction of the mistaken belief that we have succeeded in separating from God’s Love. The “cost” of Atonement is giving up a false idea which could never be true. The return on this “payment” is the remembrance of the eternal, changeless, limitless Love of God as ours. Never was so much gained for so little.

What makes this not only possible but inevitable is that God’s Love is already given us. We’ve never been without God’s Love. We’ve only been unaware of this Gift because of a mistaken belief in a false idea that could never be true. The benefit of accepting the Atonement is priceless and the cost is willingness to give up nothing — a mistaken idea that is just an illusion.

The Course offers us help to recognize that the false idea of being separate offers us nothing we want. As we learn to recognize there is no value in the world, nothing we really want, we become willing to accept the Atonement for ourselves.

We dedicate this day to letting the Holy Spirit teach us to recognize the valueless illusions of the world for what they are. Thus we become willing to accept the limitless value of God’s gift of eternal Love. We accept that we remain as God created us.
