Opening to the Joy of Present Love

Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world. ²It lets you recognize the Son of God, and clears your memory of all dead thoughts so that remembrance of your Father can arise across the threshold of your mind.

God’s plan for your salvation cannot change, nor can it fail. ²Be thankful it remains exactly as He planned it. ³Changelessly it stands before you like an open door, with warmth and welcome calling from beyond the doorway, bidding you to enter in and make yourself at home, where you belong.

³Forgive and be forgiven. ⁴As you give you will receive. ⁵There is no plan but this for the salvation of the Son of God. ⁶Let us today rejoice that this is so, for here we have an answer, clear and plain, beyond deceit in its simplicity. ⁷All the complexities the world has spun of fragile cobwebs disappear before the power and the majesty of this extremely simple statement of the truth. Our true Self and God are eternal and exist only in the now moment. In eternity there is no past nor future — only now.

The ego denies eternity. It depends upon “memories” of the past to maintain the illusion of existence. When we forgive, we let go of the past. Without the past, the ego no longer seems to exist. To the ego the future is only a rehash of the past, disguised in different forms. Thus when we forgive the past, we open our mind to the Light of present Love. This is why forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us let go of the past so that we can experience the joy of present Love.

Expressing the Attributes We Share with God

My mind is part of God’s. I am very holy.

Today’s idea does not describe the way you see yourself now. ²It does, however, describe what vision will show you. ³It is difficult for anyone who thinks he is in this world to believe this of himself. ⁴Yet the reason he thinks he is in this world is because he does not believe it.

You will believe that you are part of where you think you are. ²That is because you surround yourself with the environment you want. ³And you want it to protect the image of yourself that you have made. ⁴The image is part of this environment. ⁵What you see while you believe you are in it is seen through the eyes of the image. ⁶This is not vision. ⁷Images cannot see.

³Try to recognize that the direction of your fantasies about yourself does not matter. ⁴Illusions have no direction in reality. ⁵They are merely not true.

As often as possible during the day, pick up a specific attribute or attributes you are ascribing to yourself at the time and apply the idea for today to them, … (A Course in Miracles, W-35.1:1–2:7;5:3-5;9:1. See also ACIM Lesson 35 Insights.)

Today’s idea is part of the Course’s lessons in thought reversal. We think of ourselves as weak, vulnerable, capable of harm and being harmed. But this is not what God created. We are not a body. We are mind in the Mind of God.

As we practice applying this idea, it helps us open to the fact that we remain united in Love with Love. That is our Reality. As we apply the idea, we learn that we share God’s attributes. It opens our mind to release our beliefs in loss, fear and guilt.

We put emphasis on expressing the attributes we share with God. With this practice we acknowledge our holiness. We step away from identifying with the ego’s belief in separation.

Letting Love Direct All Our Seeing

I will not hurt myself again today.

Let us this day accept forgiveness as our only function. ²Why should we attack our minds, and give them images of pain? ³Why should we teach them they are powerless, when God holds out His power and His Love, and bids them take what is already theirs? ⁴The mind that is made willing to accept God’s gifts has been restored to spirit, and extends its freedom and its joy, as is the Will of God united with its own. ⁵The Self which God created cannot sin, and therefore cannot suffer. ⁶Let us choose today that He be our Identity, and thus escape forever from all things the dream of fear appears to offer us.

Father, Your Son can not be hurt. ²And if we think we suffer, we but fail to know our one Identity we share with You. ³We would return to It today, to be made free forever from all our mistakes, and to be saved from what we thought we were. Our Identity is in God. Everything He is we are, because He has given Himself to His Son. God is only Love, so we, His Son, are only Love.

If we experience anything but the peace and joy of Love, we have accepted a mistaken identity. This is why our only function in this dream is to forgive, to let go of this mistaken identity.

Today is a day to remember Love and let Love direct all our seeing. Thus will we remember our true Identity. We will remember we are Love and nothing else.

Seeing Through the Eyes of Love

I am not asked to make a sacrifice to find the mercy and the peace of God.

The end of suffering can not be loss. ²The gift of everything can be but gain. ³You only give. ⁴You never take away. ⁵And You created me to be like You, so sacrifice becomes impossible for me as well as You. ⁶I, too, must give. ⁷And so all things are given unto me forever and forever. ⁸As I was created I remain. ⁹Your Son can make no sacrifice, for he must be complete, having the function of completing You. ¹⁰I am complete because I am Your Son. ¹¹I cannot lose, for I can only give, and everything is mine eternally.

The mercy and the peace of God are free. ²Salvation has no cost. ³It is a gift that must be freely given and received. ⁴And it is this that we would learn today. (A Course in Miracles, W-343. See also ACIM Lesson 343 Insights.)

Because God is only Love, we, His Son, must also be only Love. Love is given us in limitless supply. By extending the Love we have been given, we teach ourselves that we are Love.

The ego is the idea of keeping something for itself alone, which no one else has. This attitude of limitation makes us unaware of our limitless supply of Love. It gives us a sense of loss, lack and a need to sacrifice to get. This thought must be forgiven and let go for us to know the limitless love we are.

Today we practice looking at the world through eyes of Love. As we see the Love that surrounds us, we awaken to the Love we are.

Releasing Our Barriers to Joy

The Holy Spirit will always guide you truly, because your joy is His. ²This is His Will for everyone because He speaks for the Kingdom of God, which is joy. ³Following Him is therefore the easiest thing in the world, and the only thing that is easy, because it is not of the world. ⁴It is therefore natural.

⁶A Son of God is happy only when he knows he is with God. ⁷That is the only environment in which he will not experience strain, because that is where he belongs. ⁸It is also the only environment that is worthy of him, because his own worth is beyond anything he can make.

When a mind has only light, it knows only light. ²Its own radiance shines all around it, and extends out into the darkness of other minds, transforming them into majesty. ³The Majesty of God is there, for you to recognize and appreciate and know. ⁴Recognizing the Majesty of God as your brother is to accept your own inheritance. ⁵God gives only equally. ⁶If you recognize His gift in anyone, you have acknowledged what He has given you. ⁷Nothing is so easy to recognize as truth. If we are not supremely happy, we have misplaced our identity. Our true Home is in the Kingdom of God, which is joy. Only a mistaken identity could seem to lack joy. Thus our level of joy is a good measure to let us know that our beliefs need correction.

The Holy Spirit is the Guide to joy. When we are aware of any disturbance to joy, we can turn to Him. We welcome Him in our mind by pausing to step back and let ourselves rest in the peace of God within. As we let our mind be quiet, we welcome the Holy Spirit’s lessons in joy. With His help, we will recognize the barriers that we have built and let them go. Our mind welcomes the Light of joy. We have the means to awaken to the eternal Life we live in God.

Pausing to Welcome God’s Gifts

The world fades easily away before [Christ’s] sight. ²Its sounds grow dim. ³A melody from far beyond the world increasingly is more and more distinct; an ancient call to which He gives an ancient answer. ⁴You will recognize them both, for they are but your answer to your Father’s Call to you. ⁵Christ answers for you, echoing your Self, using your voice to give His glad consent; accepting your deliverance for you.

How holy is your practicing today, as Christ gives you His sight and hears for you, and answers in your name the Call He hears! ²How quiet is the time you give to spend with Him, beyond the world. ³How easily are all your seeming sins forgot, and all your sorrows unremembered. ⁴On this day is grief laid by, for sights and sounds that come from nearer than the world are clear to you who will today accept the gifts He gives.”

…you can exchange all suffering for joy this very day. ⁵Practice in earnest, and the gift is yours. ⁶Would God deceive you? ⁷Can His promise fail? ⁸Can you withhold so little, when His Hand holds out complete salvation to His Son? The vision of Christ is always available to us. We need only pause to quiet our mind to let His vision transform our perception of the world. Christ sees the Love that is everywhere around us and in us. With His vision, we welcome God’s gifts of joy and peace. This vision is what our true Self always sees. Only our mistaken identification with the ego makes us unaware of is always there to see.

Today we practice frequently pausing to welcome Christ’s vision; to see the world anew. Our pauses welcome God’s gifts. We remember we are as God created us.

Finding Peace in the Oneness of Love

I want the peace of God.

To say these words is nothing. ²But to mean these words is everything. ³If you could but mean them for just an instant, there would be no further sorrow possible for you in any form; in any place or time. ⁴Heaven would be completely given back to full awareness, memory of God entirely restored, the resurrection of all creation fully recognized.

No one can mean these words and not be healed. ²He cannot play with dreams, nor think he is himself a dream. ³He cannot make a hell and think it real. ⁴He wants the peace of God, and it is given him. ⁵For that is all he wants, and that is all he will receive.

The mind which means that all it wants is peace must join with other minds, for that is how peace is obtained. ²And when the wish for peace is genuine, the means for finding it is given, in a form each mind that seeks for it in honesty can understand.

No one who truly seeks the peace of God can fail to find it. ²For he merely asks that he deceive himself no longer by denying to himself what is God’s Will. ³Who can remain unsatisfied who asks for what he has already? ⁴Who could be unanswered who requests an answer which is his to give? ⁵The peace of God is yours. The wish for a special unique identity brings with it uncertainty and chaos. Uniqueness must be constantly defended in a dream where other figures are in search of the same specialness. The dream focuses on comparisons and finding differences. Where there are differences there is conflict. Peace is impossible.

When we honestly want the peace of God, the circumstances that bring peace come to us. No longer are we seeking to be different. Instead we seek to join in the oneness of Love. There are no differences in Love so there is no conflict or uncertainty. Our true Self is the peace that seems to be missing in the dream. Our innate desire is to remember the Love we are. In this we find the peace of God. It really is all that we want. We no longer seek to maintain a unique identity.
