Accepting the Self God Created

The power of decision is our own. ²And we accept of Him that which we are, and humbly recognize the Son of God. ³To recognize God’s Son implies as well that all self-concepts have been laid aside, and recognized as false. ⁴Their arrogance has been perceived. ⁵And in humility the radiance of God’s Son, his gentleness, his perfect sinlessness, his Father’s Love, his right to Heaven and release from hell, are joyously accepted as our own.

Now do we join in glad acknowledgment that lies are false, and only truth is true. ²We think of truth alone as we arise, and spend five minutes practicing its ways, encouraging our frightened minds with this:

³The power of decision is my own. ⁴This day I will accept myself as what my Father’s Will created me to be.

⁵Then will we wait in silence, giving up all self-deceptions, as we humbly ask our Self that He reveal Himself to us. ⁶And He Who never left will come again to our awareness, grateful to restore His home to God, as it was meant to be.

In patience wait for Him throughout the day, and hourly invite Him with the words with which the day began, concluding it with this same invitation to your Self. ²God’s Voice will answer, for He speaks for you and for your Father. ³He will substitute the peace of God for all your frantic thoughts, the truth of God for self-deceptions, and God’s Son for your illusions of yourself. (A Course in Miracles, W-152.10:1–12:3. See also ACIM Lesson 152 Insights.)

Our true Self has all the attributes of God, being eternally one with our Father. This is not a concept, but a fact.

In dreaming of a world of separation, we have made up a concept of our self. This concept hides the changeless Self that God created from our awareness. We have not lost our true Self. But as long as we identify with a separate self, we cannot know the glory that God shares with our Self. But we have a choice. We can choose to let go of a self concept we made and accept our Self as It is.

We need to accept the Holy Spirit’s help Who always speaks for our Self and our Father. By declaring that the power of decision is our own, we are reminding ourselves that we can choose once again. We can choose to let go of our self concept and accept that we are Love and nothing else. In this acceptance we awaken to the Heaven of God’s Love.

The Reminder That Leads Us Back to God

³God is but Love, and therefore so am I.

⁴This Self alone knows Love. ⁵This Self alone is perfectly consistent in Its Thoughts; knows Its Creator, understands Itself, is perfect in Its knowledge and Its Love, and never changes from Its constant state of union with Its Father and Itself.

⁴Let us raise our hearts from dust to life, as we remember this [Self] is promised us, and that this course was sent to open up the path of light to us, and teach us, step by step, how to return to the eternal Self we thought we lost.

I take the journey with you. ²For I share your doubts and fears a little while, that you may come to me who recognize the road by which all fears and doubts are overcome. ³We walk together. ⁴I must understand uncertainty and pain, although I know they have no meaning. ⁵Yet a savior must remain with those he teaches, seeing what they see, but still retaining in his mind the way that led him out, and now will lead you out with him. ⁶God’s Son is crucified until you walk along the road with me.

My resurrection comes again each time I lead a brother safely to the place at which the journey ends and is forgot. ²I am renewed each time a brother learns there is a way from misery and pain. ³I am reborn each time a brother’s mind turns to the light in him and looks for me. ⁴I have forgotten no one. ⁵Help me now to lead you back to where the journey was begun, to make another choice with me. (A Course in Miracles, W-rV.in.4:3-5;5:4–7:5)

Jesus is our savior because he represents our true Self. He is our elder brother who can see what we see but knows it has no meaning. He walks with us because we are joined in the Self that God created as His Son.

Our purpose now is to awaken to the oneness of Love that is our true Self. Each time we let go of a barrier to Love, we help a brother remember the unified Love he is. This is why we must remind ourselves frequently “God is but love, and therefore so am I.”

Letting True Perception Heal Our Minds

Trusting [the truth in] your brothers is essential to establishing and holding up your faith in your ability to transcend doubt and lack of sure conviction in yourself. ²When you attack a brother, you proclaim that he is limited by what you have perceived in him. ³You do not look beyond his errors. ⁴Rather, they are magnified, becoming blocks to your awareness of the Self that lies beyond your own mistakes, and past his seeming sins as well as yours.

…if a brother’s sins occur to us, our narrowed focus will restrict our sight, and turn our eyes upon our own mistakes, which we will magnify and call our “sins.” ³So, for a little while, without regard to past or future, should such blocks arise we will transcend them with instructions to our minds to change their focus, as we say:

⁴It is not this that I would look upon.
⁵I trust my brothers, who are one with me.

…as our focus goes beyond mistakes, we will behold a wholly sinless world. ⁴When seeing this is all we want to see, when this is all we seek for in the name of true perception, are the eyes of Christ inevitably ours. ⁵And the Love He feels for us becomes our own as well. ⁶This will become the only thing we see reflected in the world and in ourselves. (A Course in Miracles, W-181.1;6:2-5;8:3-6. See also ACIM Lesson 181 Insights.)

The ego is a lie and cannot be trusted. If our perceptions are directed by the ego, they cannot be trusted. We are accustomed to assuming our perceptions are correct because we have identified with the ego. But the ego is not our identity; neither is it our brother’s identity.

We are called to trust the truth in our brother — the one Self that unites us with every brother and our Father. When we use the affirmation suggested in this lesson, we are reminding ourselves not to trust the ego’s perception. We are affirming that we want to see the one Self that unites us with our brother. This Self extends only Love, being an extension of God’s Love.

This is a practice that leads to remembering the Love we are.

Remembering the Holy Spirit Is Our Best Friend

³You are afraid to know God’s Will, because you believe it is not yours. ⁴This belief is your whole sickness and your whole fear. ⁵Every symptom of sickness and fear arises here, because this is the belief that makes you want not to know. ⁶Believing this you hide in darkness, denying that the light is in you.

You are asked to trust the Holy Spirit only because He speaks for you. ²He is the Voice for God, but never forget that God did not will to be alone. ³He shares His Will with you; He does not thrust it upon you. ⁴Always remember that what He gives He keeps, so that nothing He gives can contradict Him. ⁵You who share His life must share it to know it, for sharing is knowing. ⁶Blessed are you who learn that to hear the Will of your Father is to know your own. ⁷For it is your will to be like Him, Whose Will it is that it be so. ⁸God’s Will is that His Son be one, and united with Him in His Oneness. ⁹That is why healing is the beginning of the recognition that your will is His. (A Course in Miracles, T-11.I.10:3–11:9. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The Holy Spirit is our best Friend because He represents both our true Self and our Creator. We can depend on Him to advise us on everything that is in our best interest. We can count on Him to help us awaken to the Love we are. He will show us the Love that surrounds us and unites us with the truth in every brother in the Love of God.

We are afraid of the Holy Spirit’s advice because we think He does not represent our Self. This is because we have identified with a false self, the ego, who opposes our true Self in every way. Its opposition is so complete that it does not even know of our true Self. The ego is the demand for autonomy. It tries to usurp our true Self by making a dream of fear, guilt and loss.

But we are not imprisoned by the ego. We have the key to set us free in the Holy Spirit Who remains with us no matter what dreams we make. Today we choose to remember our best Friend and follow Him in the way of Love. Thus we will awaken to the oneness that we share with God and every brother.

Embracing the Purpose That Restores Us to Peace

God does not suffer conflict. ²Nor is His creation split in two. ³How could it be His Son could be in hell, when God Himself established him in Heaven? ⁴Could he lose what the Eternal Will has given him to be his home forever? ⁵Let us not try longer to impose an alien will upon God’s single purpose. ⁶He is here because He wills to be, and what He wills is present now, beyond the reach of time.

²No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth, and it is truth we seek to reach today. …we will ask to see the rising of the real world to replace the foolish images that we hold dear, with true ideas arising in the place of thoughts that have no meaning, no effect, and neither source nor substance in the truth.

Remember often that today should be a time of special gladness, and refrain from dismal thoughts and meaningless laments. ²Salvation’s time has come. ³Today is set by Heaven itself to be a time of grace for you and for the world. ⁴If you forget this happy fact, remind yourself with this:

⁵Today I seek and find all that I want.
⁶My single purpose offers it to me.
⁷No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth.
(A Course in Miracles, W-131.8:1-6;10:2-3;15. See also ACIM Lesson 131 Insights.)

There is nothing to be sad about, nothing to be angry about, nothing to feel guilty about. Only the illusions of this world seem to be cause for these emotions.

In truth we live in the Love of God, which never changes, can never suffer loss and forever blesses. The world we see denies Love’s Presence.  When we embrace our single purpose to forgive our mistaken beliefs, we awaken to the truth that we remain Love as God created us. We find the peace and happiness that is our natural condition.

Removing the Barriers to Happiness

²My function here is to forgive the world for all the errors I have made. ³For thus am I released from them with all the world.”

²I am essential to the plan of God for the salvation of the world. ³For He gave me His plan that I might save the world. (A Course in Miracles, W-115.1:2-3;2:2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 115 Insights.)

Our function is not to project; the world we perceive is simply a projection. We do not see the real world until we see ourselves as one with it. When we accept oneness, all form disappears.

All our judgments are barriers to our happiness. Judgment brings anxiety, deprivation, anger, frustration, sadness, loneliness, isolation, depression, conflict and regret, none of which we equate with happiness.

If we want to be happy, we have to give up judgment. That is our only function.

Forgiveness Is a Gift We Give Ourselves

Sink into happiness…. ²Today it will be given you to feel the peace forgiveness offers, and the joy the lifting of the veil holds out to you.

Before the light you will receive today the world will fade until it disappears, and you will see another world arise you have no words to picture. ²Now we walk directly into light, and we receive the gifts that have been held in store for us since time began, kept waiting for today.

Forgiveness offers everything you want. ²Today all things you want are given you. ³Let not your gifts recede throughout the day, as you return again to meet a world of shifting change and bleak appearances. ⁴Retain your gifts in clear awareness as you see the changeless in the heart of change; the light of truth behind appearances. (A Course in Miracles, W-122.11–13. See also ACIM Lesson 122 Insights.)

We already have all of God’s Love. Only our mistaken wish to have more, to be special, makes us unaware of the Gift that is ours now. Forgiveness of this mistaken wish will return us to the Light of Love we never lost.

As we forgive, we return our awareness fully to the Love in which we live and have our being. We accept God’s blessing, which was never lost. Today we remind ourselves often that forgiveness offers everything we really want.
