Accepting the Strength of the Love We Are

⁷What is unalterable cannot change. ⁸And what is wholly sinless cannot sin.

Such is the simple truth. ²It does not make appeal to might nor triumph. ³It does not command obedience, nor seek to prove how pitiful and futile your attempts to plan defenses that would alter it. ⁴Truth merely wants to give you happiness, for such its purpose is. ⁵…what God wills for you must be received.

It is this fact that demonstrates that time is an illusion. ²For time lets you think what God has given you is not the truth right now, as it must be. ³The Thoughts of God are quite apart from time. ⁴For time is but another meaningless defense you made against the truth. ⁵Yet what He wills is here, and you remain as He created you.

Truth has a power far beyond defense, for no illusions can remain where truth has been allowed to enter. ²And it comes to any mind that would lay down its arms, and cease to play with folly. ³It is found at any time; today, if you will choose to practice giving welcome to the truth.

This is our aim today. …⁵We introduce it with a healing prayer, to help us rise above defensiveness, and let truth be as it has always been:

⁶Sickness is a defense against the truth. ⁷I will accept the truth of what I am, and let my mind be wholly healed today.

Healing will flash across your open mind, as peace and truth arise to take the place of war and vain imaginings. (A Course in Miracles, W-136.11:7–15:1,5–16:1. See also ACIM Lesson 136 Insights.)

The ego is in a constant battle against the truth. It seeks to dominate our attention. It has no strength of its own and depends solely on our belief in it for its seeming strength. It presents appearances that portray vulnerability to make defense against the truth seem to be necessary for our survival. But this is not for our survival, only for the ego’s.

The Holy Spirit does not participate in the ego’s battle. It knows the ego is nothing but a mistaken belief that can be corrected. When we accept the Holy Spirit’s help to see past the ego’s defenses, our minds are healed. Like water melted the wicked witch, the Light of Love dispels the ego’s thoughts that deny God’s Love.

As we are willing to accept the Holy Spirit’s lessons in Love, we learn of our real strength. The ego fades away and we remember the peace and Love of God that is our Reality.

Our True Self Remains United with Our Creator

You are one Self, united and secure in light and joy and peace. ²You are God’s Son, one Self, with one Creator and one goal; to bring awareness of this oneness to all minds, that true creation may extend the allness and the unity of God. ³You are one Self, complete and healed and whole, with power to lift the veil of darkness from the world, and let the light in you come through to teach the world the truth about yourself.

You are one Self, in perfect harmony with all there is, and all that there will be. ²You are one Self, the holy Son of God, united with your brothers in that Self; united with your Father in His Will. ³Feel this one Self in you, and let It shine away all your illusions and your doubts. ⁴This is your Self, the Son of God Himself, sinless as Its Creator, with His strength within you and His Love forever yours. ⁵You are one Self, and it is given you to feel this Self within you, and to cast all your illusions out of the one Mind that is this Self, the holy truth in you.”

²To everyone you meet today, be sure to give the promise of today’s idea and tell him this:

³You are one Self with me, united with our Creator in this Self. ⁴I honor you because of What I am, and What He is, Who loves us both as One. (A Course in Miracles, W-95.12–13;15:2-4. See also ACIM Lesson 95 Insights.)

The Course is offering us an alternative view of our identity. It states that, in fact, it is the only alternative that is real. This Identity is a complete reversal of what we believe about ourselves in this world. But it offers us peace instead of conflict, joy instead of distress, loneliness and lack, and changeless Love in place of fear and guilt.

This Self has never changed, no matter what we believe about ourself. But our belief has made a dark veil that hides the Light of Love we are. The Course provides means for us to change our mind. We need to undo our mistaken beliefs. No battle is needed. But vigilance is needed to pay attention to our thoughts that come from a false image of our self. These thoughts we need to bring to the Holy Spirit in our mind for His loving correction.

With His help, we will see our brothers as sharing our journey of returning to Love. We learn that what bothers us about our brother reflects a mistaken belief we have about ourself. As we take this mistaken belief to the Holy Spirit, we learn to let it go. The veil fades as we remember we are one Self, united in the oneness of our Creator, along with every brother.

Remembering Our Home in Love

…it is your thoughts which made [the world] and [your thoughts] must set it free, that you may know the Thoughts you share with God.

Release the world!

There is no world because it is a thought apart from God, and made to separate the Father and the Son, and break away a part of God Himself and thus destroy His Wholeness. ²Can a world which comes from this idea be real? ³Can it be anywhere? ⁴Deny illusions, but accept the truth. ⁵Deny you are a shadow briefly laid upon a dying world. ⁶Release your mind, and you will look upon a world released.

Today our purpose is to free the world from all the idle thoughts we ever held about it, and about all living things we see upon it. ²They can not be there. ³No more can we. ⁴For we are in the home our Father set for us, along with them. ⁵And we who are as He created us would loose the world this day from every one of our illusions, that we may be free.

[Affirm:] ²I who remain as God created me would loose the world from all I thought it was. ³For I am real because the world is not, and I would know my own reality. (A Course in Miracles, W-132.11:6–12:1;13;14;15:2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 132 Insights.)

History is important to the ego because it uses the past to make its illusions seem real. Without the past, without time, we are aware of the eternal Reality in the present. The ego thoughts based in time are used to hide the present from our awareness. This is why the key to our release is to let the past go — to forgive.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s lessons which teach us the past does not exist. His shows us the changeless presence of Love. When we look on the world through the eyes of Love, there is no judgment, only the joyous joining of Love with Love. We recognize the Love our brother is. We remember our unbreakable link with the Love that created us.

No longer is the past held in our mind. We let Love guide our thoughts. Love’s vision sees the universe of Love and nothing else. We remember our Home in Love.

Opening to the Miracle of True Perception

Your holiness reverses all the laws of the world. ²It is beyond every restriction of time, space, distance and limits of any kind. ³Your holiness is totally unlimited in its power because it establishes you as a Son of God, at one with the Mind of his Creator.

Through your holiness the power of God is made manifest. ²Through your holiness the power of God is made available. ³And there is nothing the power of God cannot do. ⁴Your holiness, then, can remove all pain, can end all sorrow, and can solve all problems. ⁵It can do so in connection with yourself and with anyone else. ⁶It is equal in its power to help anyone because it is equal in its power to save anyone.

If you are holy, so is everything God created. ²You are holy because all things He created are holy.”

…search your mind for any sense of loss or unhappiness of any kind as you see it. …[Use the following to apply today’s idea:]

⁵In the situation involving _________ in which I see myself, there is nothing that my holiness cannot do.
⁶In the situation involving _________ in which _________ sees himself, there is nothing my holiness cannot do. (A Course in Miracles, W-38.1:1–3:2;4:1,5-6. See also ACIM Lesson 38 Insights.)

It is tempting to believe that our holiness cannot do anything about a perceived problem in the world. How can our holiness help fix a problem with a car or a computer? These doubts come from the ego defending its domain. As long as we believe we have to rely on our own devices, we are limited to using ego illusions to fix the ego’s illusions. This circular reasoning blocks our awareness of the power God shares with us.

This lesson is telling us that no ego illusion can be maintained in the presence of God’s holiness. And His holiness is everywhere and in everyone. Only our allegiance to the ego blocks our awareness of the holiness God shares with His Son.

It is time to stop swearing allegiance to the ego. When we withdraw this allegiance, we open our mind and heart to the strength and Love that God shares with us without limit, eternally. If we let Him into our awareness, He can help us forgive our mistaken wish for specialness. This makes way for the miracle of changed perception, where the idea of loss, lack or harm is dispelled. There is nothing our holiness cannot do.

The Practice That Leads Us Back to Heaven

Today the promise of God’s Word is kept. ²Hear and be silent. ³He would speak to you. ⁴He comes with miracles a thousand times as happy and as wonderful as those you ever dreamed or wished for in your dreams. ⁵His miracles are true. ⁶They will not fade when dreaming ends. ⁷They end the dream instead; and last forever, for they come from God to His dear Son, whose other name is you. ⁸Prepare yourself for miracles today. ⁹Today allow your Father’s ancient pledge to you and all your brothers to be kept.

Be ready for salvation. ²It is here, and will today be given unto you. ³And you will learn your function from the One Who chose it in your Father’s Name for you. ⁴Listen today, and you will hear a Voice which will resound throughout the world through you. ⁵The bringer of all miracles has need that you receive them first, and thus become the joyous giver of what you received.

Thus does salvation start and thus it ends; when everything is yours and everything is given away, it will remain with you forever. ²And the lesson has been learned. ³Today we practice giving, not the way you understand it now, but as it is. ⁴Each hour’s exercises should begin with this request for your enlightenment:

The practice of pausing to be still and listen to the truth will transform our life experience. It puts us on a path of awakening to Heaven. We dream of hell, where danger seems to lurk around every corner, and lack and loss are real. This is not our home. It need not be.

When we pause, with willingness to accept God’s peace, we welcome the Light of His Love. This Light reveals the safety of Love that surrounds us and protects us. We remember our unbroken link with our Father, Whose strength is ours. Images of darkness and threat are dispelled by the Light, which shows us the presence of Love that never left.

The way to remembering Love becomes clearer each time we step back and let Him lead the way. Each time we pause to be still and listen to the truth today leads us forward on our journey of awakening to Love.

Recognizing the Love in Every Brother

That you and your brother are joined is your salvation; the gift of Heaven, not the gift of fear. ²Does Heaven seem to be a burden to you? ³In madness, yes. ⁴And yet what madness sees must be dispelled by reason. ⁵Reason assures you Heaven is what you want, and all you want. ⁶Listen to Him Who speaks with reason, and brings your reason into line with His. ⁷Be willing to let reason be the means by which He would direct you how to leave insanity behind. ⁸Hide not behind insanity in order to escape from reason. ⁹What madness would conceal, the Holy Spirit still holds out for everyone to look upon with gladness.

You are your brother’s savior. ²He is yours. ³Reason speaks happily indeed of this. ⁴This gracious plan was given love by Love. ⁵And what Love plans is like Itself in this: Being united, It would have you learn what you must be. ⁶And being one with It, it must be given you to give what It has given, and gives still. ⁷Spend but an instant in the glad acceptance of what is given you to give your brother, and learn with him what has been given both of you. ⁸To give is no more blessed than to receive. ⁹But neither is it less. As God’s Son, we were created as Love. His oneness forever unites Him with His Son, the extension of His Love. The Love we are unites us with every brother in the Sonship God created one with Himself.

We have convinced ourselves that we are not united with our brother, nor anything in the world. We need to have a separate identity in order to experience the specialness we seek. The cost for this unique identity is fear and guilt. The belief that harm and loss is possible was introduced when we wished to be separate.

Beneath the world of separation we have made remains the unifying Love that keeps us safe and brings us joy. The Love that we are remains secure in the oneness of God’s Love. As we learn to let the Holy Spirit teach us to let go of our false images, our brother is recognized as our savior. He shows us the Love that we are. The truth in him speaks messages of Love and oneness to us.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s teaching, for we would remember that we remain safe at Home in the Love of God, along with every brother.

Learning to Live in the Timeless Eternal Present

Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

²I seem to have problems only because I am misusing time. ³I believe that the problem comes first, and time must elapse before it can be worked out. ⁴I do not see the problem and the answer as simultaneous in their occurrence. ⁵That is because I do not yet realize that God has placed the answer together with the problem, so that they cannot be separated by time. ⁶The Holy Spirit will teach me this, if I will let Him. ⁷And I will understand it is impossible that I could have a problem which has not been solved already.

These forms of the idea will be useful for specific applications:

²I need not wait for this to be resolved.
³The answer to this problem is already given me, if I will accept it.
⁴Time cannot separate this problem from its solution. (A Course in Miracles, W-90. See also ACIM Lesson 90 Insights.)

Time is a construct of the belief in separation. It is used to make forgiveness appear to be unjustified. It holds guilt as baggage from the past that cannot be released.

But the past does not exist. This fact is the basis for all forgiveness, for what did not occur cannot be cause for guilt. This is the message the Holy Spirit holds for us, given Him by God to help His Son remember His Father’s Love for Him. The ego diligently builds scenarios that seem to confirm the reality of harm and loss. But this can only seem to occur in illusions.

Love cannot be lost. It is eternal and changeless, given without limit. Every time we seem to have a problem, the Holy Spirit is available to us to help us learn that Love is present, now and forever. The past is gone, does not exist, and cannot affect us now or ever. The reality of timelessness is the basis for this lesson.

We can ask ourselves this question, “Am I willing to be free of the past?” Any seeming problem is an attempt to hold on to the past. When we are willing to learn the Holy Spirit’s lesson that only Love is now, the past is released. We remember the Love in which we live and have our being. Gratitude fills our hearts. Joy overflows as we join in the eternal giving and receiving of Love.
