Accepting the Holy Spirit’s Purpose for the Body

The beautiful relationship you have with all your brothers is a part of you because it is a part of God Himself.

Either there is a gap between you and your brother, or you are as one. ²There is no in between, no other choice, and no allegiance to be split between the two.

…[the body] can be seen as not your home, but merely as an aid to help you reach the home where God abides.

With this as purpose is the body healed. ²It is not used to witness to the dream of separation and disease. ³Nor is it idly blamed for what it did not do. ⁴It serves to help the healing of God’s Son, and for this purpose it cannot be sick. ⁵It will not join a purpose not your own, and you have chosen that it not be sick. ⁶All miracles are based upon this choice, and given you the instant it is made. ⁷No forms of sickness are immune, because the choice cannot be made in terms of form. ⁸The choice of sickness seems to be of form, yet it is one, as is its opposite. ⁹And you are sick or well, accordingly. The ego made the body as a substitute identity to replace what God created as His Son. Because of our allegiance to the ego’s desire for specialness, we have accepted the ego’s purpose for the body. With this purpose, the body seems to need constant defense. It never seems to be safe. It is always vulnerable to outside forces that can harm it, age it, and ultimately lead it to death.

Having accepted the body as our identity, the Holy Spirit gives the body another purpose to free it from the ego’s story. When we are willing to join with the Holy Spirit and accept His purpose for the body, we are set on the path of return to our Home in the oneness of God’s Love. This is the journey of healing which dispels the story of vulnerability, limitation, lack and death.

Love cannot die, for It is eternal. Love has no opposite, for only Love is real. Joined with the Holy Spirit’s purpose, the body becomes an aid to teach and learn to that we are God’s Love. We become a healing presence as we join with the Love in every brother.

Making Way for Love’s Light to Shine

Forgiveness paints a picture of a world where suffering is over, loss becomes impossible and anger makes no sense. Attack is gone, and madness has an end. What suffering is now conceiv­able? What loss can be sustained? The world becomes a place of joy, abundance, charity and endless giving. It is now so like to Heaven that it quickly is transformed into the light that it reflects. And so the journey which the Son of God began has ended in the light from which he came.

Father, we would return our minds to You. We have betrayed them, held them in a vise of bitterness, and frightened them with thoughts of violence and death. Now would we rest again in You, as You created us. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.249. See also ACIM Lesson 249 Insights.)

The ego paints a picture of a world filled with suffering, violence and death. While we accept the ego as our identity, this is the picture we see. It seems very real to us. Fear and conflict are our constant companions. Yet this world we see is only a dream made by the ego thought system of separation to hide from the eternal oneness of God’s Love.

Forgiveness is the way to awaken from this frightening and loveless world. Throughout every day we are presented with opportunities to forgive and let the false images disappear. Each moment in which we feel anything but peace indicates that somewhere in our mind we are denying Love’s presence. We release this denial by asking the Holy Spirit to heal our fear-based thoughts.

We do not have to dig deeply to try to find a specific event or past experience to label as the “cause” of the disturbance to our peace. But we do have to recognize the disturbance and offer it to the Holy Spirit for His healing. He will respond with vision that shows us the truth of Love’s presence beyond the dream images. He will help us join with the Love beyond the dark forms and welcome Love’s Light into the world.

Each time we accept the Holy Spirit’s healing, the world is brightened a little more with Love’s Light. The more we practice, the more we experience the presence of peace, happiness and changeless Love.

The Certainty of God’s Love Keeps Us Safe

The miracle comes quietly into the mind that stops an instant and is still. ²It reaches gently from that quiet time, and from the mind it healed in quiet then, to other minds to share its quietness. ³And they will join in doing nothing to prevent its radiant extension back into the Mind which caused all minds to be. ⁴Born out of sharing, there can be no pause in time to cause the miracle delay in hastening to all unquiet minds, and bringing them an instant’s stillness, when the memory of God returns to them. ⁵Their own remembering is quiet now, and what has come to take its place will not be wholly unremembered afterwards.

He to Whom time is given offers thanks for every quiet instant given Him. ²For in that instant is God’s memory allowed to offer all its treasures to the Son of God, for whom they have been kept. …⁵The instant’s silence that His Son accepts gives welcome to eternity and Him, and lets Them enter where They would abide. ⁶For in that instant does the Son of God do nothing that would make himself afraid.

No matter how entrenched we have become in the dream of separation, the memory of God is still in our mind. The dream is cluttered with distractions that attract our attention. Some are attractive because we believe they will bring happiness. Others attract our attention because they seem to portend harm to defend against. These distractions serve the ego’s purpose of hiding the presence of Love which it denies.

True happiness and safety are available to us when we remember our oneness with God. He has already shared His joy with His Son. Our forgetting has not stopped His sharing, only hidden it. The certainty of His Love keeps us safe. What cannot be changed cannot be harmed. The Love with which He embraces His Son keeps His Son perfectly safe.

We remember this Reality when we pause to accept His peace. In that instant the memory of God comes forth. It is the memory of the present moment that never changes. It is the forgetting of the illusions of the past that were never real. We welcome God’s peace today to undo memories of illusions of the past, and dwell in the present moment.

Accepting the Certainty of God’s Love

The mind engaged in planning for itself is occupied in setting up control of future happenings. ²It does not think that it will be provided for, unless it makes its own provisions. ³Time becomes a future emphasis, to be controlled by learning and experience obtained from past events and previous beliefs. ⁴It overlooks the present, for it rests on the idea the past has taught enough to let the mind direct its future course.

The mind that plans is thus refusing to allow for change.

Your present trust in Him is the defense that promises a future undisturbed, without a trace of sorrow, and with joy that constantly increases, as this life becomes a holy instant, set in time, but heeding only immortality. ²Let no defenses but your present trust direct the future, and this life becomes a meaningful encounter with the truth that only your defenses would conceal.

Without defenses, you become a light which Heaven gratefully acknowledges to be its own. ²And it will lead you on in ways appointed for your happiness according to the ancient plan, begun when time was born.

²We will be sure that everything we need is given us for our accomplishment of [God’s plan] today. ³We make no plans for how it will be done, but realize that our defenselessness is all that is required for the truth to dawn upon our minds with certainty. Everything in the world is uncertain. Illusions are inherently unstable and unreliable. When we believe we dwell in illusions, there is always an underlying anxiety that makes us feel a need to provide for our protection. Yet within this dream there is nothing that can guarantee protection.

But beyond this dream there is guarantee of sure protection in the Reality of God’s Love. This is our Home in truth. We can trust God’s Love, for It never changes, never is held back nor conditional. God offers His plan for our safety and release from fear through the Holy Spirit. He is the reliable Source to lead us to the full awareness that we rest in God’s Love, now and forever.

Our safety is guaranteed by God. As we let the Holy Spirit guide our thoughts and perceptions, the uncertainty of the world is replaced by the certainty of God’s Love. Today is another day to open our minds to His certainty.

Accepting the Christ Within

⁴Deep in your mind the holy Christ in you is waiting your acknowledgment as you. ⁵And you are lost and do not know yourself while He is unacknowledged and unknown.

Seek Him today, and find Him. ²He will be your Savior from all idols you have made. ³For when you find Him, you will understand how worthless are your idols, and how false the images which you believed were you. ⁴Today we make a great advance to truth by letting idols go, and opening our hands and hearts and minds to God today.

We will remember Him throughout the day with thankful hearts and loving thoughts for all who meet with us today. ²For it is thus that we remember Him. ³And we will say, that we may be reminded of His Son, our holy Self, the Christ in each of us:

⁴I am as God created me.

⁵Let us declare this truth as often as we can. ⁶This is the Word of God that sets you free. ⁷This is the key that opens up the gate of Heaven, and that lets you enter in the peace of God and His eternity. (A Course in Miracles, W-110.9:4–11:7. See also ACIM Lesson 110 Insights.)

When we are remembering the Christ within, we look upon everyone we meet with thankful hearts and loving thoughts. This is what we are called to do in every moment. And if we do not have gratitude and loving thoughts for our brother, we remember that it’s time to forgive our misperception.

We ask the Holy Spirit to heal our fear-based thoughts. We pause to welcome the peace of God within with willingness to share it with our brothers. In the sharing we reclaim His gift of peace. This practice will help us awaken to the fact that we remain God’s Son eternally.

We dedicate this day to seeing our brothers with gratitude and loving thoughts.

Gratitude Comes with Identifying with Love

We thank our Father for one thing alone; that we are separate from no living thing, and therefore one with Him. ²And we rejoice that no exceptions ever can be made which would reduce our wholeness, nor impair or change our function to complete the One Who is Himself completion. ³We give thanks for every living thing, for otherwise we offer thanks for nothing, and we fail to recognize the gifts of God to us.

Then let our brothers lean their tired heads against our shoulders as they rest a while. ²We offer thanks for them. ³For if we can direct them to the peace that we would find, the way is opening at last to us. ⁴An ancient door is swinging free again; a long forgotten Word re-echoes in our memory, and gathers clarity as we are willing once again to hear.

Walk, then, in gratitude the way of love. ²For hatred is forgotten when we lay comparisons aside. ³What more remains as obstacles to peace? ⁴The fear of God is now undone at last, and we forgive without comparing. ⁵Thus we cannot choose to overlook some things, and yet retain some other things still locked away as “sins.” ⁶When your forgiveness is complete you will have total gratitude, for you will see that everything has earned the right to love by being loving, even as your Self.

Gratitude is natural when we join with the Love that is the Reality in which we live. We are grateful for the quiet peace that cannot be disturbed when we dwell in Love. We are grateful for the joy of extending Love and experiencing Love’s flow through our Being. This is the experience of the Life we live in God.

This gratitude is blocked when we think we are a unique and different self. It only seems real by comparing our self with others, who seem to be different. Joy cannot be fully experience when we are seeing differences. The flow of Love only occurs from Love to Love. There are no differences in Love’s oneness.

We walk the path of gratitude when we forgive the appearance of differences to see our oneness with our brothers, joined in Love. We ask the Holy Spirit for His help to see past appearances to the Love in which we live. As we accept His help, we will walk in gratitude knowing our Identity is Love.

Accepting Peace of Mind

In quiet I receive God’s Word today.

Let this day be a day of stillness and of quiet listening. ²Your Father wills you hear His Word today. ³He calls to you from deep within your mind where He abides. ⁴Hear Him today. ⁵No peace is possible until His Word is heard around the world; until your mind, in quiet listening, accepts the message that the world must hear to usher in the quiet time of peace.

This world will change through you. ²No other means can save it, for God’s plan is simply this: The Son of God is free to save himself, given the Word of God to be his Guide, forever in his mind and at his side to lead him surely to his Father’s house by his own will, forever free as God’s. ³He is not led by force, but only love. ⁴He is not judged, but only sanctified.

In stillness we will hear God’s Voice today without intrusion of our petty thoughts, without our personal desires, and without all judgment of His holy Word. ²We will not judge ourselves today, for what we are can not be judged. ³We stand apart from all the judgments which the world has laid upon the Son of God. ⁴It knows him not. ⁵Today we will not listen to the world, but wait in silence for the Word of God. The dream is made by the ego to deny the eternal Love of God. Because peace is an attribute of Love, the peace of God is not welcome in the dream. But God’s Will is that His Son share His peace. He has given us the means through His Voice to learn how to welcome His gift of peace. This requires that we pay attention to His Voice and accept His lessons.

We have trained ourselves to pay attention to the ego. Our training has been very effective. This fact demonstrates how well we can learn our lessons. To accept the peace of God, we need to be willing to follow the Teacher Whose mission is to help us free ourselves from the ego’s lessons in fear. Our willingness to be vigilant of our thoughts, and welcome the Holy Spirit’s purpose in place of the ego’s, will set us free.

Today is a day to welcome the peace of mind that comes with learning the Holy Spirit’s lessons.
