Deciding with God

When you have learned how to decide with God, all decisions become as easy and as right as breathing. There is no effort, and you will be led as gently as if you were being carried down a quiet path in summer. Only your own volition seems to make deciding hard. The Holy Spirit will not delay in answering your every question what to do. He knows. And He will tell you, and then do it for you. You who are tired will find this is more restful than sleep. For you can bring your guilt into sleeping, but not into this. (A Course in Miracles T-14.IV.6)

Every day we are faced with myriad decisions. Each one seems to have many considerations. What will be the effect of this choice? Will we like the effect? What will we gain or lose? The desired outcome may itself have conflicting goals, leading to more uncertainty. All these questions and uncertainties come from the belief that we are separate, different from others and different from our Creator.

Since we never really did succeed in separating from our Source, all we need do to go beyond all questions and uncertainty is to accept ourselves as we were created, at one with our Creator, complete and without needs of any kind. To reach this state of full acceptance, we need the help of the Presence in our minds that remembers the truth about us.

Our practice today is to bring all our decisions to this Presence, the Holy Spirit, to decide for us on behalf of the truth of What we are. This decision is without conflict because What we are is one with all That is. Today we will practice asking with every decision “What would Holy Spirit have us do?”

Accepting the Quiet Certainty of Changeless Love

There must be doubt before there can be conflict. And every doubt must be about yourself. Christ has no doubt, and from His certainty His quiet comes. He will exchange His certainty for all your doubts, if you agree that He is One with you, and that this Oneness is endless, timeless, and within your grasp because your hands are His. He is within you, yet He walks beside you and before, leading the way that He must go to find Himself complete. His quietness becomes your certainty. And where is doubt when certainty has come? (A Course in Miracles T-24.V.9)

As we go through our day today, our practice is to look at our thoughts that we are accepting as the truth, and ask ourselves, “Is this thought coming from the Christ Mind? Does this thought reflect belief in weakness, loss or vulnerability?” If so, we turn it over to the Christ Mind within to exchange it for the truth of our oneness in Love… We practice turning over all our substitutes for Love and let the Christ Mind lead the way… We surrender all our false ideas today and let the certainty of the Christ Mind shine through… This practice will lead us out of the chaos of the world to the quiet certainty of changeless Love.

Clearing the Blocks to Awareness of Love

No one really sees anything. He sees only his thoughts projected outward.

…begin to train your mind to recognize when it is not really thinking at all. While thoughtless ideas preoccupy your mind, the truth is blocked. Recognizing that your mind has been merely blank, rather than believing that it is filled with real ideas, is the first step to opening the way to vision. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.8.1:2-3;3)

If we want to remember Who we really are, we need to remove the blocks to awareness of Love’s Presence. We are a Thought of Love in the Mind of Love. Our real Thoughts are extensions of the Thought of Love we are. Thoughts of form — bodies, personalities, things, experiences from the past — block our awareness of the formless, changeless Love we are. These thoughts keep us in the dream of separation. While we identify with being a separate identity, we need help to see beyond these thoughts.

This Help has been given us by our loving Creator. No matter how entrenched we become in the thought system of separation, we can always turn to the Help in our minds to let go of our misperceptions, our projections based on our mistaken identity. We can let go of the thoughts that block our awareness of Love’s Presence. With this Help, we can let go of the false ideas and make way for our return to the memory of What we are in truth. We return to Love.

Holy Spirit, help us to see with you today that we may remember Who we are.

Make Way for Love

Today we learn a lesson which can save you more delay and needless misery than you can possibly imagine. It is this:

You make what you defend against, and by your own defense against it is it real and inescapable. Lay down your arms, and only then do you perceive it false.

Now do your eyes belong to Christ, and He looks through them. Now your voice belongs to God and echoes His. And now your heart remains at peace forever. You have chosen Him in place of idols, and your attributes, given by your Creator, are restored to you at last. The Call for God is heard and answered. Now has fear made way for love, as God Himself replaces cruelty. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.170.2:4-7;12)

Today is a day for letting the Call for God be heard. This Call resides in everyone, for It is their natural Home. Now is the time to return to where we belong. The Light of God within beckons as we willingly lay down our arms. Our fearful projections quietly disappear and we see they are nothing. Peace returns. We willingly make way for Love. And what we seek for in our heart of hearts we find. Fear is replaced by Love as we lay down our defenses.

Today’s Prayer of Dedication

Holy Spirit, we acknowledge that Your Will is ours. We dedicate today to holding our minds open to Your guidance, that we may be instruments of Your peace and expressions of Your Will. We would see as You see and do as You direct us to fulfill our part in your plan of Atonement. Hour by hour, we open to your Will and follow as you direct.

From Loneliness to Oneness

The cure for loneliness is to accept our Self as God created It — One with all Love, one with our Creator, one with all our brothers, who are contained within our one Self. Loneliness comes when we believe we have separated from our Creator and our Self. With that belief comes a sense of incompletion and a yearning to be complete.

The belief that we are separate would direct us to look to another body, another place, another circumstance in which we could feel better, more safe, somehow more complete. But the thought system of separation can never offer us the completion we already have. It can only offer us more images of separation. But no matter how much we buy into the belief in separation, we can never lose the Spark of truth that is forever calling to remind us that we remain as Love created us.

Today our practice is to listen to that Call and let It show us the Spark in our brother that joins us in the Light of Love. Here we find the cure for loneliness. Here we find our completion. Here we find the Love that we are. Love sees only Love and we remember Who we are.

Joining with the Holy Spirit

It is this joining [with the Holy Spirit] that we undertake to recognize today. We will not seek to keep our minds apart from Him Who speaks for us, for it is but our voice we hear as we attend Him. He alone can speak to us and for us, joining in one Voice the getting and the giving of God’s Word; the giving and receiving of His Will.

We practice giving Him what He would have, that we may recognize His gifts to us. He needs our voice that He may speak through us. He needs our hands to hold His messages, and carry them to those whom He appoints. He needs our feet to bring us where He wills, that those who wait in misery may be at last delivered. And He needs our will united with His Own, that we may be the true receivers of the gifts He gives. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.154.10-11)

Today our practice is to join with the Holy Spirit. We want to receive the truth about ourselves. We want to receive the truth about every brother. And what we truly wish for in our heart of hearts we will receive. Our joining with the Holy Spirit is our highest priority as we go through this day.

Choosing to join with the Holy Spirit is choosing to be happy. His Will is God’s Will. And God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. The ego warns that if we join with the Holy Spirit we will be sacrificing our “identity.” But what we will be giving up is a false identity of lack of Love, loneliness and sadness. Is it a sacrifice to give up such an identity in order to receive our true Identity, which is perfect peace and happiness? Our practice today is the choice for happiness.
