Freedom Awaits Our Choice

…the recognition of what needs to be done to free the mind of the self-induced madness in which it is seemingly caught is impossible without help from beyond the circle of insanity. How that help is given depends on your willingness to learn from the Holy Spirit, and the willingness to surrender your life, to turn it over. He is always available to you if you make yourself available to Him. An open, receptive mind, making decisions with His help, ever ready to be guided, always listening; such a mind easily receives the Holy Spirit’s direction and acts as guided. This releases the power of Spirit into your life, and the transformation of your mind is the inevitable result.

Do not let the habits of a lifetime continue to hold you prisoner. Freedom awaits your choice. Once that decision is truly made, and with the Holy Spirit’s help, nothing can stop you from attaining freedom. The choice for freedom is the choice for the Self, as the Self is forever free and beyond limits of any kind. The Self is Love, and Love cannot be bound; there is nothing that can hold It or obstruct It in any way. (From the Christ Mind Book II, pp. 161,162)

The choice to identify with the ego and the body as our identity is the choice for imprisonment.  It is an attempt to limit the infinity of Love to a tiny speck of dust. This limitation could only seem to be in dreams that deny our reality.

Having made the choice for imprisonment, we need to be willing to accept help from outside the self-made prison door to let ourselves be freed. The Holy Spirit holds the key that unlocks the door. When we are willing to accept His help to let go of our mistaken beliefs, He will gently open the door through which we can walk in gentleness and peace to our Home where we remember the limitless Love we are.

Today our prayer is: Holy Spirit, I would follow only You today. I would not lead.

Accepting Your Holy Vision

You are holy because your mind is part of God’s. And because you are holy, your sight must be holy as well.… Your sight is related to His Holiness, not to your ego, and therefore not to your body.

[“My holiness bless the world”] contains the first glimmerings of your true function in the world, or why you are here. Your purpose is to see the world through your own holiness. Thus are you and the world blessed together. No one loses; nothing is taken away from anyone; everyone gains through your holy vision. It signifies the end of sacrifice because it offers everyone his full due. And he is entitled to everything because it is his birthright as a Son of God. We free ourselves from the prison house of the ego thought system as we practice seeing everyone’s birthright as a Son of God. God is One, and everyone is included in His oneness. Everyone’s holiness is intact. As we practice recognizing this, everyone is blessed and we are blessed. We accept these blessings all through the day today by focusing on the holiness in all our brothers, whether or not they see in themselves. This is how we accept our holy vision.

Bringing the Ego to God

The Atonement does not make holy. You were created holy. It merely brings unholiness to holiness; or what you made to what you are. Bringing illusion to truth, or the ego to God, is the Holy Spirit’s only function. Keep not your making from your Father, for hiding it has cost you knowledge of Him and of yourself. The knowledge is safe, but where is your safety apart from it? The making of time to take the place of timelessness lay in the decision to be not as you are. Thus truth was made past, and the present was dedicated to illusion.

Bringing the ego to God is but to bring error to truth, where it stands corrected because it is the opposite of what it meets. It is undone because the contradiction can no longer stand. How long can contradiction stand when its impossible nature is clearly revealed? What disappears in light is not attacked. It merely vanishes because it is not true. Different realities are meaningless, for reality must be one. It cannot change with time or mood or chance. Its changelessness is what makes it real. (A Course in Miracles, T-14.IX.1:1-8;2:1-8. The practice of bringing all our thoughts and perceptions to the Holy Spirit for correction is bringing the ego to God, illusion to truth. What we experience with the body is illusion because the body itself is an illusion. The body is the ego’s principal mechanism for making illusions seem real.

As we learn not to trust what the body shows us and our interpretations of body experiences, we open the door to receive Holy Spirit’s true Vision that is not of the body. To free ourselves from the hell of the ego, we must direct our attention to the inner vision of Christ, which cannot be seen with the body’s eyes. Christ’s vision sees past the body, disregarding it as meaningless of itself. Christ’s vision sees Christ in all things. Love’s innocence is all there is to see in truth. Every day is an opportunity to practice bringing all illusions to truth by letting the Holy Spirit be our Guide.

Our Prayer to Awaken

We need Your help Holy Spirit. We have been believing in a false idea that it is possible to be separate from our Creator, our Source, our very Being. This belief has left us feeling alone, vulnerable, guilty and fearful. This need not be.

We come to You with open hands and heart, with willingness to have our thoughts and beliefs corrected. We want to know the peace of God. We want to know that we are loved, Love and loving. We want to experience our Creator’s joy. We want to return to our true Home, where we are certain of our safety and join with all our brothers, seeing our innocence and remembering we are one as Love’s only creation.

Help us see past the images of the world that seem so real. We would follow Your lead in each moment, remembering we know nothing on our own. We are confident that You will always lead us to peace. You will always lead us to joy. You will always lead us Home.

Free To Be the Love We Are

Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light.

…determining to keep your will clearly in mind, tell yourself with gentle firmness and quiet certainty:

I will there be light. Let me behold the light that reflects God’s Will and mine.

The ego seems to have a will of its own. Yet all the ego really has is idle wishes, which produce no real effect. If we want the ego’s idle wishes to be real, if we believe in them, we experience the ego’s idle wishes as having effects. They seem to bring us pain and guilt, sadness and fear, interlaced with brief periods that seem to be to our liking.

The capriciousness of the ego’s idle wishes leaves us with a profound sense of instability and vulnerability. Nothing can be counted on to stay as it is. We must constantly be preparing to protect ourselves and provide for our perceived needs. This is not the will we share with God.

The will we share with God shares His changelessness and certainty. His will never changes. He wills that we have all that He is — changeless Love, peace that cannot be disturbed and joy beyond description. This is the Will He shares with us. Thus it is our will to be eternally Love and loving, safe in perfect peace and resting in quiet joy.

It is holding on to grievances that keeps us from experiencing the will we share with God. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s help to learn that all our grievances have no foundation in truth, we free ourselves from the darkness of the ego thought system. We join in the Light of Love, free to be the Love we were created to be.

The Key to Happiness

Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world. It lets you recognize the Son of God, and clears your memory of all dead thoughts so that remembrance of your Father can arise across the threshold of your mind.

Forgiveness is the key to happiness. I will awaken from the dream that I am mortal, fallible and full of sin, and know I am the perfect Son of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 121, W-pI.122.3:1-2;121.13:6-7. See also ACIM Lesson 121 Insights.)

Today I choose happiness… I choose to receive Holy Spirit’s healing thoughts… I welcome the Holy Spirit into my mind to receive the healing beingness of peace…

I let my mind rise above all the turmoil of the world to find the Love that is my true Nature… I accept the Love into my heart… A accept the gifts that are inherently mine to receive and extend… Today I remember to extend the Love I have received to every brother I know or think of…

I let the Holy Spirit enlightenment my mind and follow Its healing inspiration… I practice seeing beyond individual personalities to the one Christ Mind that is everyone’s real Mind… I see that everyone is one with God, as I am… and I am filled with gratitude, peace and a sense of well being…

How Do We Choose to See Today?

You see the flesh or recognize the spirit. There is no compromise between the two. If one is real the other must be false, for what is real denies its opposite. There is no choice in vision but this one. What you decide in this determines all you see and think is real and hold as true. On this one choice does all your world depend, for here have you established what you are, as flesh or spirit in your own belief.

Are you invulnerable? Then the world is harmless in your sight. Do you forgive? Then is the world forgiving, for you have forgiven it its trespasses, and so it looks on you with eyes that see as yours. Are you a body? So is all the world perceived as treacherous, and out to kill. Are you a spirit, deathless, and without the promise of corruption and the stain of sin upon you? So the world is seen as stable, fully worthy of your trust; a happy place to rest in for a while, where nothing need be feared, but only loved. Who is unwelcome to the kind in heart? We each have two ways of seeing and each excludes the other. One way sees us as a body in a world of guilt and fear. The other sees us as Spirit, wholly innocent and loving. We are always choosing between these two ways of seeing. The vision that sees Spirit comes from Spirit and cannot be seen with the body’s eyes.

To have this vision, we need Help from beyond the world seen by the body’s eyes. The practice of mindfulness through which we bring our thoughts and perceptions to the Holy Spirit to help us see as Spirit sees is the way out of the hell of a world of fear and guilt.

Today we practice holding our minds open to the Holy Spirit’s vision that we may see a safe world of innocence and Love, happiness and peace.
