Distinguishing Between the Real and the Unreal

Because I have gotten lost in dreams of separate bodies, I usually do not realize that the dream is unreal. But right in my mind, waiting for an opening to help, is my inner Guide, the Holy Spirit. My job is to be open and willing to receive Holy Spirit’s help. I must be willing to be still and listen. When I do, my fears are calmed and I remember once again that all is well, all is safe because in truth nothing has happened to God’s one Son.

The Holy Spirit returns my mind to truth when I am willing. If I am open, the Holy Spirit reminds me that the dream never happened. The Holy Spirit reminds me that it is just a dream and God’s Love is all that is eternally true. Believing in false ideas cannot make them true. Believing that there could ever be separate bodies does not make it true. Stories are just stories and I can lay them down and remember the truth as I am willing. Heaven is there in my mind and everyone’s mind, waiting for the willingness to return to eternal Reality. Reality is simple and uncomplicated. Today my practice is to allow the truth to return to my mind and receive the peace of God.

A Course in Miracles tells us that only Love is real. It also tells us that peace and joy are attributes of Love. So if I am not experiencing the peace and happiness that come with Love, I must be believing in something that is not real. This gives me a very simple measure of whether or not I am focused on truth or illusion, real or unreal.

The practice of paying attention to what I am experiencing and bringing anything that is not of Love to the Holy Spirit’s Light of truth is the way that I let go of mistaken beliefs and return to my Home in Love. This is my practice today.
