Let the Light of Love Shine Through Us Today

My holiness shines bright and clear today.

Today I wake with joy, expecting but the happy things of God to come to me. I ask but them to come, and realize my invitation will be answered by the thoughts to which it has been sent by me. And I will ask for only joyous things the instant I accept my holiness. For what would be the use of pain to me, what purpose would my suffering fulfill, and how would grief and loss avail me if insanity departs from me today, and I accept my holiness instead?

Father, my holiness is Yours. Let me rejoice in it, and through forgiveness be restored to sanity. Your Son is still as You created him. My holiness is part of me, and also part of You. When we identify with the ego, we are asking for unhappiness, for grief, sickness, fear and death. Believing we are separate from our Creator is believing we are unholy. That belief sends out requests for images that seem to confirm the reality of separation. So the pain and suffering we experience in the world is there by our request when we believe the ego’s insanity is our identity.

Accepting our holiness is sanity because we are accepting what is real instead of believing in what could never be real. Only Love is real. As we accept the Self that Love created, joy and peace come with it. This is the Will of our Creator and it is the Will of our Self as well. This Self is holy because It remains united with the Source of holiness. God’s holiness is ours. As we let go of our belief in a past that is not here, we make way for the Light of the present to show us the reality of Love’s presence.

We Are Always Safe in God’s Peace

Your peace is with me, Father.  I am safe.

Your peace surrounds me, Father. Where I go, Your peace goes there with me. It sheds its light on everyone I meet. I bring it to the desolate and lonely and afraid. I give Your peace to those who suffer pain, or grieve for loss, or think they are bereft of hope and happiness. Send them to me, my Father. Let me bring Your peace with me. For I would save Your Son, as is Your Will, that I may come to recognize my Self.

And so we go in peace. To all the world we give the message that we have received. And thus we come to hear the Voice for God, Who speaks to us as we relate His Word; Whose Love we recognize because we share the Word that He has given unto us. Another Workbook Lesson tells us that God goes with us wherever we go. That is why His peace is always with us. But we must be willing to accept His gift of peace or its presence remains unknown to us.

The invitation for our Father to send us those who need to feel God’s peace is a gift, for the practice of offering peace to a distressed brother reinforces for us the awareness that God’s peace is within us now. The more we practice remembering His peace within us and extend that peace to our brothers, the more we learn that we can count on God’s peaceful Presence in every moment.

This is the lesson we must learn to free ourselves from the ego’s messages of fear and guilt. Our true Self is united with our Creator in His peace. This can never change. But because of our long-time dedication to the ego’s goal of separation from our Creator, we need to frequently affirm that God’s peace is with us to open our minds to accept God’s Presence. This is how we build confidence that we are always safe in God’s changeless peace. This is how we teach what we need to learn.

The Path to Inner Peace

This holy instant would I give to You.
Be You in charge. For I would follow You,
Certain that Your direction gives me peace.

And if I need a word to help me, He will give it to me. If I need a thought, that will He also give. And if I need but stillness and a tranquil, open mind, these are the gifts I will receive of Him. We can all enjoy a life of peace and happiness. But we must put the One Who knows the way in charge of every moment of every day.

We do not enjoy a life of love and peace because we have put the guide in charge that denies the Source of peace and love. The ego will always lead us to conflict and fear.

The affirmation at the beginning of this lesson is a dedication to let the Voice for God direct our thoughts and actions. We are guaranteed to receive all the help we need to return us to the remembrance of the peace that is our natural state. We need only follow Him. This practice will bring us Home.

We Live in God

God is my refuge and security.

I will identify with what I think is refuge and security. I will behold myself where I perceive my strength, and think I live within the citadel where I am safe and cannot be attacked. Let me today seek not security in danger, nor attempt to find my peace in murderous attack. I live in God. In Him I find my refuge and my strength. In Him is my Identity. In Him is everlasting peace. And only [in peace] will I remember Who I really am.

Let me not seek for idols. I would come, my Father, home to You today. I choose to be as You created me, and find the Son whom You created as my Self. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 261,W-pII.261. See also ACIM Lesson 261 Insights.)

An idol is defined as a representation of a god. Thus an idol is a substitute that stands between our perception and the reality of God, our Creator. When we identify with a body, we are choosing a substitute for our true Identity in God.

An idol has no meaning of its own. Its only seeming meaning comes from the meaning we give it through our belief. Beliefs are always subject to change. That is why the body, which represents our belief in a separate identity, always feels vulnerable. It is not a place where we find safety, but rather requires our constant vigilance to protect it.

To find lasting peace, we need to relinquish our identification with an image that is inherently fearful. Our true Identity is in the changelessness of God. This Identity remains united in God’s Love. This is where we live and have our being. This is where we are perfectly safe and know with certainty that there is nothing to defend against. We truly live in God’s Love.

How to Be Happy

The world’s salvation awaits your forgiveness [seeing the Love beyond the ego’s perceptions], because through it does the Son of God escape from all illusions, and thus from all temptation. The Son of God is you.

Only by fulfilling the function given you by God will you be happy. That is because your function is to be happy by using the means [forgiveness] by which happiness becomes inevitable. There is no other way. Therefore, every time you choose whether or not to fulfill your function, you are really choosing whether or not to be happy.

Let us remember this today. Let us remind ourselves of it in the morning and again at night, and all through the day as well. Prepare yourself in advance for all the decisions you will make today by remembering they are all really very simple. Each one will lead to happiness or unhappiness. Can such a simple decision really be difficult to make? Let not the form of the decision deceive you. Complexity of form does not imply complexity of content. It is impossible that any decision on earth can have a content different from just this one simple choice [between Love and illusion]. That is the only choice the Holy Spirit sees. Therefore it is the only choice there is.

Our deeply ingrained identification with the body limits our perception to the ego’s domain. The body’s eyes were made to perceive illusions and exclude Reality. Fortunately the Holy Spirit can give the body another purpose. Guided by the Holy Spirit, the body becomes the means to let go of the meaning the ego gives to form.

Through the body we experience fear and guilt. These emotions become signals that we are misperceiving. If we use these signals as reminders to turn to the Holy Spirit for help to see as He sees, we open our minds to true forgiveness. The Holy Spirit will show us the Love beyond the images of separation. As we accept His vision, we experience the joy of remembering the Love we are.

The Certainty of God’s Strength in Us

You do not realize what you have done to sabotage the holy peace of God by your defensiveness. For you behold the Son of God as but a victim to attack by fantasies, by dreams, and by illusions he has made; yet helpless in their presence, needful only of defense by still more fantasies, and dreams by which illusions of his safety comfort him.

Defenselessness is strength. It testifies to recognition of the Christ in you.

Today our theme is our defenselessness. We clothe ourselves in it, as we prepare to meet the day. We rise up strong in Christ, and let our weakness disappear, as we remember that His strength abides in us. We will remind ourselves that He remains beside us through the day, and never leaves our weakness unsupported by His strength. We call upon His strength each time we feel the threat of our defenses undermine our certainty of purpose. We will pause a moment, as He tells us, “I am here.” (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 153, W-pI.153.5:4-6:2;19. See also ACIM Lesson 153 Insights.)

One of the ego’s chief defenses is to bring fantasies of the past and project them onto the present. Since the past does not really exist, its projected images on the present make Reality unknown to us.

The Christ in us, our true Self, is wholly in the present. As we are willing to let go or forgive the past, we experience the presence and strength of Christ. It has always been with us, but hidden by the ego’s projections. Letting go of the defenses of the past is how we remember our true strength. It is how we remember God is here now and always. In this remembrance, we know our invulnerability, for there is nothing that can assail the strength of God in us.

Identification with Our True Self Brings Freedom

What keeps the world in chains but your beliefs? And what can save the world except your Self? Belief is powerful indeed. The thoughts you hold are mighty, and illusions are as strong in their effects as is the truth.

Yet is salvation easily achieved, for anyone is free to change his mind, and all his thoughts change with it. Now the source of thought has shifted [to your Self], for to change your mind means you have changed the source of all ideas you think or ever thought or yet will think. You free the past from what you thought before. You free the future from all ancient thoughts of seeking what you do not want to find [ego’s goal].

The world is nothing in itself. Your mind must give it meaning. And what you behold upon [the world] are your wishes, acted out so you can look on [your wishes] and think them real.

There is no world apart from what you wish, and herein lies your ultimate release. Change but your mind on what you want to see, and all the world must change accordingly. The world we see is a projection of the ego thought system. We have chosen to see this projection because we have accepted the ego as our identity. This acceptance makes the projected world seem real.

Because the world is projected, it does not seem it is coming from the part of our mind that identifies with the ego. The source of what we see does not seem to be our own mind. All this comes from the wish to be a unique and special identity. Since separation (specialness) could never be real, the projected world we see is not real and does not exist in truth.

There is another Identity that remains united with Its Source. This Identity is our true Self. When we choose to accept this Self as our Identity, the past disappears and takes concern for the future with it. Our Self exists in the timelessness of changeless Love. Nothing else is real.

Realigning our allegiance from the ego to the Self created by God looses the world from the thoughts that made it. Our true Self’s thoughts are of the oneness of Love. We are free from all limitation. We remember Heaven.
