Giving the World a New Purpose

This world will bind your feet and tie your hands and kill your body only if you think that it was made to crucify God’s Son. For even though it was a dream of death, you need not let it stand for this to you. Let this be changed, and nothing in the world but must be changed as well. For nothing here but is defined as what you see it for.

How lovely is the world whose purpose is forgiveness of God’s Son! How free from fear, how filled with blessing and with happiness! And what a joyous thing it is to dwell a little while in such a happy place! Nor can it be forgot, in such a world, it is a little while till timelessness comes quietly to take the place of time. The world we see is an outward picture of what we believe we are. If we identify with the ego thought system, we believe we are a separate entity, separate from our Source and separate from all things. Believing we are separate from our Source, we think we are separate from God’s strength and from Life Itself. Thus the world we see shows us images of lack, loss and death. This is the purpose the ego has given it.

But if we choose to align with the Holy Spirit, our true Self, we can give the world another purpose. When we align with the Holy Spirit, the purpose of the world becomes forgiveness of all our mistaken beliefs. Every experience becomes an opportunity to free ourselves from belief in lack, loss and death. Forgiveness has the power to restore awareness of Heaven to our minds. It has the power to return us to the experience of God’s peace and joy.

Today we can take another step closer to remembering that we remain God’s Son as we were created. We are still limitless Love and nothing else.

Remembering What We Really Want

Pause and be still a little while, and see how far you rise above the world, when you release your mind from chains and let it seek the level where it finds itself at home. It will be grateful to be free a while. It knows where it belongs. But free its wings, and it will fly in sureness and in joy to join its holy purpose. Let it rest in its Creator, there to be restored to sanity, to freedom and to love.

Protect your mind throughout the day as well. And when you think you see some value in an aspect or an image of the world, refuse to lay this chain upon your mind, but tell yourself with quiet certainty:

This will not tempt me to delay myself.

By stepping back and frequently connecting with the Holy Spirit, we allow ourselves to be led to a different way of seeing the world today… We open to and receive the Love of God That is present everywhere, behind the dream world of separation… We practice receiving and extending the truth today… We choose not to delay the happiness and peace we will receive from our true Self… When we find ourselves becoming anxious or fearful, we remember there is nothing to fear and that all is well in truth. We remember that the world of separation holds nothing that we want.

The Power of God Supports Us

Remember that you always choose between truth and illusion; between the real Atonement that would heal and the ego’s “atonement” that would destroy. The power of God and all His Love, without limit, will support you as you seek only your place in the plan of Atonement arising from His Love. Be an ally of God and not the ego in seeking how Atonement can come to you. His help suffices, for His Messenger understands how to restore the Kingdom to you, and to place all your investment in salvation in your relationship with Him. (A Course in Miracles, T-16.VII.10. The Holy Spirit, God’s Messenger, is all the help we need to let go of the illusion of hell and return to our Home in Heaven. When we try to resolve perceived problems on our own, we are denying the only help that will really set us free.

We are never alone. We always have the gift of God’s Messenger available to us to lead us to freedom from the illusion of separation, isolation and weakness. The Holy Spirit brings us all of God’s strength. There is no substitute. The practice of daily opening to the Holy Spirit’s lead and following His inspiration is our path to freedom. It is our path to perfect peace, quiet joy and limitless Love.

Holy Spirit, guide our thoughts today. Direct our feet and hands and inspire our words, that we may act from the Love we are and offer that Love to all our brothers, free of illusions of the past. Amen.

Learning to Extend Peace in Every Situation

Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It must begin with your own thoughts, and then extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 34, W-pI.34.1:2-4. See also ACIM Lesson 34 Insights.)

Today we practice opening our mind to the presence of Holy Spirit’s peace… We open to letting peace lead the way… We let ourselves see the world, with all its problems, in the Light of Holy Spirit’s peace… We let a feeling of gentleness and kindness fill our mind…

We choose peace to see the world through the Holy Spirit’s peaceful vision. We ask for inspiration to help us see past disturbing perceptions, personalities or events… With His help we will learn to accept and extend peace in every situation. This is our practice for today.

We Welcome God’s Blessing Through Forgiveness

You are the spirit lovingly endowed with all your Father’s Love and peace and joy. You are the spirit which completes Himself, and shares His function as Creator. He is with you always, as you are with Him. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 97, W-pI.97.2:2-4. See also ACIM Lesson 97 Insights.)

We share God’s function as Creator by extending God’s gift of Love. The Course tells us that only Love creates and only like Itself. Because the world of separation is the denial of Love, Love is reflected in the world by letting go of the denial of Love through forgiveness.

Each time we let go of a judgment, we open the door for greater flow of God’s Love. As we let Love in through forgiveness, we experience Love’s blessing. The gratitude It engenders inspires us to extend It. We become part of the channel of Love that can heal the world of lack of Love.

Today is another day to welcome God’s blessing through the practice of forgiveness — accepting Holy Spirit’s vision of innocence in place of our misperceptions.

Returning to the Love We Are

Why wait for Heaven? It is here today. Time is the great illusion it is past or in the future. Yet this cannot be, if it is where God wills His Son to be. How could the Will of God be in the past, or yet to happen? What He wills is now, without a past and wholly futureless. It is as far removed from time as is a tiny candle from a distant star, or what you chose from what you really want.

Heaven remains your one alternative to this strange world you made and all its ways; its shifting patterns and uncertain goals, its painful pleasures and its tragic joys. God made no contradictions. What denies its own existence and attacks itself is not of Him. He did not make two minds, with Heaven as the glad effect of one, and earth the other’s sorry outcome which is Heaven’s opposite in every way.” (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 131, W-pI.131.6-7. Heaven is Love. As we open our minds to the peace, joy and all-inclusive oneness of God’s Love, we are opening to Heaven. It has not left our minds. We have just been denying Its Presence. We open to the truth today. It is there, waiting for our return to the Love we are.

Accepting Holy Spirit’s Purpose as Our Own

You look still with the body’s eyes, and they can see but thorns. Yet you have asked for and received another sight. Those who accept the Holy Spirit’s purpose as their own share also His vision.… He sees no strangers; only dearly loved and loving friends. He sees no thorns but only lilies, gleaming in the gentle glow of peace that shines on everything He looks upon and loves.

You have the vision now to look past all illusions. It has been given you to see no thorns, no strangers and no obstacles to peace. The fear of God is nothing to you now. Who is afraid to look upon illusions, knowing his savior stands beside him? With him, your vision has become the greatest power for the undoing of illusion that God Himself could give. We want to let go of the fear and depression that come with joining with the ego’s thought system. We know too much to still want the ego’s artificial values — seeking for specialness and uniqueness instead of Love’s oneness. We know that seeking for these things only brings disappointment, sorrow and pain in the end.

We want Holy Spirit’s vision instead of the separation and differences the body’s eyes show us. We want to see innocence instead of the guilt we once sought to project onto others to alleviate our own guilt. With Holy Spirit, we are now able to see past all appearances of differences to the presence of Love that is behind all illusions. As we join with Holy Spirit’s purpose, we share the Love from the Holy Spirit with every brother.
