Our Special Role to Heal the World

I have a special place to fill; a role for me alone. Salvation waits until I take this part as what I choose to do. Until I make this choice, I am the slave of time and human destiny. But when I willingly and gladly go the way my Father’s plan appointed me to go, then will I recognize salvation is already here, already given all my brothers and already mine as well.

Father, Your way is what I choose today. Where it would lead me do I choose to go; what it would have me do I choose to do. Your way is certain, and the end secure. The memory of You awaits me there. And all my sorrows end in Your embrace, which You have promised to Your Son, who thought mistakenly that he had wandered from the sure protection of Your loving Arms. In the world everyone seems to be different. We each have our personal set of judgments and perceived guilt through which we look upon the world. We project our guilt through our judgments, which maintains the sense of separation and isolation we all feel in the world.

Thus our individual role that each of us alone must fulfill is to forgive or let go of our personal collection of guilt, grievances and judgments. It is these that hide the fact that we remain perfectly innocent, perfectly whole and perfectly safe eternally within the Love of God.

In every moment we have the opportunity to fulfill our role in God’s plan by letting the Holy Spirit help us see the truth of Love beyond the appearances in the world. Thus do we learn to forgive our grievances, let go of our judgments, and remember that we share God’s innocence with all our brothers. This is our practice for today.

Feeling God’s Love Flow Through Us

In fearlessness and love I spend today.

This day, my Father, would I spend with You, as You have chosen all my days should be. And what I will experience is not of time at all. The joy that comes to me is not of days nor hours, for it comes from Heaven to Your Son. This day will be Your sweet reminder to remember You, Your gracious calling to Your holy Son, the sign Your grace has come to me, and that it is Your Will I be set free today.

We spend this day together, you and I. And all the world joins with us in our song of thankfulness and joy to Him Who gave salvation to us, and Who set us free. We are restored to peace and holiness. There is no room in us for fear today, for we have welcomed love into our hearts. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 310, W.pII.310. See also ACIM Lesson 310 Insights.)

We are always in the presence of Love because God is ever present. Because God is the only Reality, we cannot be outside His Presence. In His Love, we are fearless because fear and Love cannot co-exist.

Fear seems to exist only when we believe we have become something other than what God created. But because God is the Source of all Reality, what we think we have become cannot be real. As we remind ourselves again and again that we are one in God’s Love and His strength is ours, the belief in a false world fades. The acceptance of God’s strength as ours grows stronger. We feel His Love flow through us, joining us with the truth in all our brothers.

Our Path to Happiness

Truth is the opposite of illusions because it offers joy. What else but joy could be the opposite of misery? To leave one kind of misery and seek another is hardly an escape. To change illusions is to make no change.…

Illusions carry only guilt and suffering, sickness and death, to their believers. The form in which they are accepted is irrelevant. No form of misery in reason’s eyes can be confused with joy. Joy is eternal. You can be sure indeed that any seeming happiness that does not last is really fear. Joy does not turn to sorrow, for the eternal cannot change. But sorrow can be turned to joy, for time gives way to the eternal. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.II.2:1-4;3:1-7. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

It is helpful to remember that if we are not supremely happy, we must be believing in a false idea that we are separate from our Creator, the Source of all joy. God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. If we are not experiencing perfect happiness, it is a signal that we need to bring our perception to the Holy Spirit, our true Self, to receive Love’s gentle correction. The Light of Love will shine away the interference that hides the eternal presence of Love. But we must be willing to receive correction.

When we believe that a certain experience, appearance or relationship in the world will make us happy, we are attempting to give value to empty illusions. Though we may hang on to them, there is always an underlying fear that they will not last. Illusions cannot last because they are illusions. But the changeless Love of God is eternal and can always be relied upon as our Source of strength. Today we practice holding our minds open to the Light of Love to correct our misperceptions. It is our path to happiness.

We Are Unlimited in Love

You are the spirit in whose mind abides the miracle in which all time stands still; the miracle in which a minute spent in using these ideas becomes a time that has no limit and that has no end. Give, then, these minutes willingly, and count on Him Who promised to lay timelessness beside them. He will offer all His strength to every little effort that you make. Give Him the minutes which He needs today, to help you understand with Him you are the spirit that abides in Him, and that calls through His Voice to every living thing; offers His sight to everyone who asks; replaces error with the simple truth. The strength of God is always with us and in us. When we identify with being a weak and vulnerable body, we are unaware of the Source of our real strength. This is why we need to remind ourselves again and again it is the Spirit we are, our one Self, that shares God’s strength and Love and joy. The Spirit we are shares the limitlessness of Love Itself.

As we remember we are Spirit, we recognize the Spirit in everyone and everything, beyond the appearance of form. Our Spirit is in eternal joy and peace, being one with God. Our Spirit knows we share God’s Will and places no limits on the eternal extension of Love. As we affirm that we are Spirit, we give ourselves a gift that is beyond time and beyond all limits.

Accepting the Changeless Love We Are

God is, and in Him all created things must be eternal. Do you not see that otherwise He has an opposite, and fear would be as real as love?

Teacher of God, your one assignment could be stated thus: Accept no compromise in which death plays a part. Do not believe in cruelty, nor let attack conceal the truth from you. What seems to die has but been misperceived and carried to illusion. Now it becomes your task to let the illusion be carried to the truth. Be steadfast but in this; be not deceived by the “reality” of any changing form. Truth neither moves nor wavers nor sinks down to death and dissolution. And what is the end of death? Nothing but this; the realization that the Son of God is guiltless now and forever. (A Course in Miracles, M-27.6:10-11;7:1-8)

A key point here is that we need “to let illusions be carried to the truth.” A characteristic of all illusions is that they change. What is of God is changeless, and therefore eternal. God is Love and Love is changeless forever. It encompasses all that is in reality.

So our practice for today is to pay attention to recognize illusions for what they are. If it is not changeless Love, it is not real. Bodies change; thus they cannot be real. The good news is the eternal Spirit that we all really are remains changeless Love. And changeless Love is guiltless, helping us remember everyone’s innocence, no matter what the dream is showing us. This is our practice for today.

Accepting the Experience of Love’s Presence

“Who walks with me?” This question should be asked a thousand times a day, till certainty has ended doubting and established peace. Today let doubting cease. God speaks for you in answering your question with these words:

I walk with God in perfect holiness. I light the world, I light my mind and all the minds which God created one with me. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 156, W-pI.156.8. See also ACIM Lesson 156 Insights.)

Love is always with us because Love is our Source. We cannot be without Love because we are Love’s extension. The appearance of a loveless world of separate bodies could never be real. But believing we are in a world of separation leaves us feeling unloved and fearful.

The antidote for this is to remind ourselves a thousand times a day that we walk with Love. Love is our constant Companion. Love is everywhere to be seen. We need only accept that we remain united with Love, our Source, to see the Love that is everywhere.

The practice of reminding ourselves that we walk with Love helps us let go of the false idea that we could possibly be separate from Love. As we accept What we are, peace flows through us, fear disappears, and the joyful extension of Love is our present experience.

Accepting God’s Gifts

…the one responsibility of the miracle worker is to accept the Atonement for himself. The teacher of God is a miracle worker because he gives the gifts he has received. Yet he must first accept them. He need do no more, nor is there more that he could do. By accepting healing he can give it. If he doubts this, let him remember Who gave the gift and Who received it. Thus is his doubt corrected. He thought the gifts of God could be withdrawn. That was a mistake, but hardly one to stay with. And so the teacher of God can only recognize it for what it is, and let it be corrected for him. (M-7.3:2-11)

Letting our mistaken thoughts be corrected by the Holy Spirit is our most important job. When we look through the body’s eyes and believe in what we see, we are making a mistake. We are forgetting it is an illusion and that nothing can change God’s one holy Son.

As we consistently return to the Holy Spirit’s gift of enlightenment, our mind is healed of fear and guilt. This readjustment helps us see our brothers truly for the divine Love they are, behind the images of separation. All this comes as we accept God’s gifts of true perception throughout the day.
