Hearing the Holy Spirit in Every Brother

I love you for the truth in you, as God does. Your deceptions may deceive you, but they cannot deceive me. Knowing what you are, I cannot doubt you. I hear only the Holy Spirit in you, Who speaks to me through you. If you would hear me, hear my brothers in whom God’s Voice speaks. The answer to all prayers lies [in the Holy Spirit] in them. You will be answered as you hear the [Holy Spirit’s] answer in everyone. Do not listen to anything else, or you will not hear truly. (A Course in MiraclesT-9.II.7)

My practice for today is to hear only the Holy Spirit in every brother. If I pause and listen within, the Holy Spirit will speak to me through every brother. As I learn to focus on the Holy Spirit in every brother instead of a separate individual, I am helped to see the truth in myself. I am helped to see the real world instead of the false world of the ego.

This is God’s Answer to my prayer to awaken. As I strengthen the practice of seeing every brother as he truly is, I am blessed by every brother I come into contact with. What a wonderful practice to have for this beautiful day! This practice will turn every special relationship into a holy relationship. And for this I give thanks.

The truth in everyone is the one Self we share that is God’s one Son. To see the truth I need to set aside the false images made by the ego thought of separation that blind me to the truth. The truth is everywhere to be seen. Being eternal, the truth can never go away. But the choice to believe that separation is real makes me unaware of the truth, even though it is still present, now.

The practice of accepting Holy Spirit’s help to see past the deceiving images to the truth in my brother is how I awaken to the truth in myself. I am grateful that today I can join with the Holy Spirit and accept His help to see truly. This practice moves me closer to undoing the dream of self-deception.

Letting Peace Carry Me to the Truth

Peace is my Home. It is the condition in which I was created. If I do not feel at peace, it is because I believe I am not in my natural habitat — I believe I have separated from Love. It is this belief that I am what I am not that needs to be undone for me to return to my natural state of peace. No matter how much I have invested in believing that I am separate and alone, peace is always within reach because it remains within me as What I am.

Today my focus is on remembering What I am, so I must be vigilant for peace. In peace, with Holy Spirit’s help, I recognize the false beliefs as meaningless and easily lay them down. This is how I will remember the truth of What I am along with all my brothers. I will remember that I am still as God created me.

I have within me a Source of peace so great that It dissolves all traces of separation at my request. My willingness to go to this Source of peace to let my mind be healed is how I return to my Source. It is how I remember God. This is my practice for today. Nothing is more important than letting peace carry me to the truth. Accepting peace is my one goal today. It is how my mind is healed. It is how the veil of illusions is lifted.

Finding the Truth of Oneness

I thank You, Father, knowing You will come to close each little gap that lies between the broken pieces of Your holy Son. Your holiness, complete and perfect, lies in every one of them. And they are joined because what is one is in them all. How holy is the smallest grain of sand, when it is recognized as being part of the completed picture of God’s Son! The forms the broken pieces seem to take mean nothing. For the whole is in each one. And every aspect of the Son of God is just the same as every other part. (A Course in Miracles T-28.V.9)

My practice for today is to recognize that “the forms the broken pieces seem to take mean nothing” and that the whole of Love is in every brother. I have been used to thinking in terms of seeing differences. I see that this is just part of separation’s distraction from seeing the truth that Love is one.

The truth is in my mind and I am determined to find it there. I find the truth when I am willing to step back from the old habit of seeing separate bodies with personalities that are different and become willing to see God’s wholeness in every brother. I am once again returned to the truth that the Son of God is one.

If I want to learn the truth, I need to be willing to be taught by the Teacher of truth. The practice of staying in the center of peace within me is how I keep my mind open to my inner Teacher’s lessons. His lessons lovingly guide me to the recognition of the Love I share with everyone. My vigilance for peace today welcomes the lessons that will awaken me to the truth that we all remain as Love created us.

Love Created Me Like Itself

You need to hear the truth about yourself as frequently as possible, because your mind is so preoccupied with false self-images. Four or five times an hour, and perhaps even more, it would be most beneficial to remind yourself that Love created you like Itself. Hear the truth about yourself in this.

…This is the Voice for God, reminding you of your Father and your Self. This is the Voice of truth, replacing everything that the ego tells you about yourself with the simple truth about the Son of God. You were created by Love like Itself. (A Course in MiraclesW-pI.67.5:2-4,6:2-4)

This lesson encourages me to remember that I am Love and only love. I was created by Love to be Love and I cannot change that. I can dream a dream that I am different from the Love I am, but I cannot make it true. Today’s practice is to remember frequently throughout the day that I, like my Father, am Love and that nothing else is real.

Because Love sees only Love, I am able to see that everyone is only Love, no matter what dreams they may be clinging to. Every part of the Sonship was created by Love and is still the same Love that it was created to be. God’s Will is done. Anything else is merely dreams and cannot hurt the one Son of God. And thank God that this is so. My practice is to remember the truth today.

In truth I am one with All That is, I am one with Love. I was created as Love. Perceiving a world of separation with separate bodies and private thoughts is just a denial of What I am that has no effect whatsoever. Frequently reminding myself today that Love created me like Itself will help loosen my identification with a false self-image and return my mind to the truth. It’s worth the practice.

Gratitude for God’s Light in Me

A few days ago I received an anonymous phone call from someone who called me a liar. I felt myself become defensive but fortunately he hung up before I could say anything. When I stepped back, it was clear to me that in that moment we were both calling for Love. For me to use this experience for healing I needed to accept Love and extend Love. I practiced that, but the phone call kept popping back into my mind. And the feeling that came with it made it clear that I had not yet fully accepted and extended Love.

This morning I had an image of standing with this person in a circle of Light. I felt Love flowing over me and through me. I felt peace come with it. I was aware that my brother standing next to me was receiving the same gift. Together we were joined in that Light of Love. I was aware that not only did the Love wash through me and my brother but that it joined us in this one Love. Beside me stood my dear brother, one with me, sharing the Love that is given us. My heart overflowed with gratitude as I recognized my brother who is one with me. In gratitude I heal.

Today, my job is to let the veil of separation be lifted. It is only my barriers to Love or mistaken beliefs that keeps the veil in place. A Course in Miracles tells me again and again that I see what I want to see. Today I focus on my desire to let the veil be lifted. I choose to see the Light instead of the darkness. This choice helps me remember my true Identity and the true Identity of everyone. Making this choice is what today is for. This is the most helpful use of time.

The Holy Spirit lifts the veil when I open my mind to the Holy Spirit’s healing perspective. When I truly want to see as the Holy Spirit sees, it will be there for me to see. I am grateful that this is so.

Distinguishing Between the Real and the Unreal

Because I have gotten lost in dreams of separate bodies, I usually do not realize that the dream is unreal. But right in my mind, waiting for an opening to help, is my inner Guide, the Holy Spirit. My job is to be open and willing to receive Holy Spirit’s help. I must be willing to be still and listen. When I do, my fears are calmed and I remember once again that all is well, all is safe because in truth nothing has happened to God’s one Son.

The Holy Spirit returns my mind to truth when I am willing. If I am open, the Holy Spirit reminds me that the dream never happened. The Holy Spirit reminds me that it is just a dream and God’s Love is all that is eternally true. Believing in false ideas cannot make them true. Believing that there could ever be separate bodies does not make it true. Stories are just stories and I can lay them down and remember the truth as I am willing. Heaven is there in my mind and everyone’s mind, waiting for the willingness to return to eternal Reality. Reality is simple and uncomplicated. Today my practice is to allow the truth to return to my mind and receive the peace of God.

A Course in Miracles tells us that only Love is real. It also tells us that peace and joy are attributes of Love. So if I am not experiencing the peace and happiness that come with Love, I must be believing in something that is not real. This gives me a very simple measure of whether or not I am focused on truth or illusion, real or unreal.

The practice of paying attention to what I am experiencing and bringing anything that is not of Love to the Holy Spirit’s Light of truth is the way that I let go of mistaken beliefs and return to my Home in Love. This is my practice today.

What Do I Really Want?

Every brother you meet becomes a witness for Christ or for the ego, depending on what you perceive in him. Everyone convinces you of what you want to perceive, and of the reality of the kingdom you have chosen for your vigilance. Everything you perceive is a witness to the thought system you want to be true. Every brother has the power to release you, if you choose to be free.” (ACIM T-11.VI.18:1-4)

Do I want to see God’s Kingdom or the ego’s kingdom? Asking myself this frequently today will help me recognize that I am making a choice every moment. Am I seeing through the ego’s eyes or through Holy Spirit’s eyes? My willingness to be vigilant helps me see past the ego’s illusions of separation and differences to the oneness and Love of God’s Kingdom.

Another way to ask the question of what do I want is, “Do I want the truth or do I want deception?” It’s the same question. The ego is the temptation to deceive myself into believing that separation is real. The good news is is that I don’t have to choose self-deception. The truth is forever in my mind. God’s Kingdom is in me as it is in everyone.

In the section, “The ‘Dynamics’ of the ego,” (T-11.VI) A Course in Miracles makes it clear that I need to look at the self-deceptions, the illusions that I have chosen to believe are real. It is only by looking at them through the Light of Holy Spirit that I can learn that they are truly nothing. With that recognition, I easily let them go. This is my practice today.
