Choosing the Guide to Love

We have seen that there are only two parts of your mind. One is ruled by the ego, and is made up of illusions. The other is the home of the Holy Spirit, where truth abides. There are no other guides but these to choose between, and no other outcomes possible as a result of your choice but the fear that the ego always engenders, and the love that the Holy Spirit always offers to replace it.” (A Course in Miracles W-pI.66.7:2-5)

If we want to find Love, we need to choose the Guide Who offers It. It is very helpful to pay attention through the day which guide we are choosing. Our mood will clearly show us. Love always brings happiness and peace, which is the result of choosing the Holy Spirit as our Guide. Fear or any lack of peace is always the result of choosing the ego as our guide.

Today our practice is to pay attention to whether our thoughts are bringing happiness and peace or fear or lack of peace. We will offer to the Holy Spirit in our minds those thoughts that do not bring happiness for help to see the truth beyond the disturbing false images. This is how we follow the Guide to Love. This is our purpose for today.

We Have All the Help We Need

How light and easy is the step across the narrow boundaries of the world of fear when you have recognized Whose hand you hold! Within your hand is everything you need to walk with perfect confidence away from fear forever, and to go straight on, and quickly reach the gate of Heaven itself. For He Whose hand you hold was waiting but for you to join Him. Now that you have come, would He delay in showing you the way that He must walk with you? His blessing lies on you as surely as His Father’s Love rests upon Him. His gratitude to you is past your understanding, for you have enabled Him to rise from chains and go with you, together, to His Father’s house.” (A Course in Miracles T-30.V.8)

It is very helpful to remember that we hold Holy Spirit’s Hand all through the day. Giving time to receptive listening is a valuable practice indeed. As we practice receiving Holy Spirit’s Help, we realize that we have all the help we need. We realize that the Holy Spirit is right there in our mind, with every situation we encounter, helping us see truly. The Holy Spirit always brings us past fear thoughts to the pure Thought of joy.

The ego’s thoughts always bring fear and limitation. As we consistently take these thoughts to the Holy Spirit, what is not true disappears and the fulness of God’s Love remains for us to receive and extend. It is powerful to remember we always have all the Help we need.

Healing Artificial Values

You are as God created you. Today honor your Self. Let graven images you made to be the Son of God instead of what he is be worshipped not today. Deep in your mind the holy Christ in you is waiting your acknowledgment as you. And you are lost and do not know yourself while He is unacknowledged and unknown.

Seek Him today, and find Him. He will be your Savior from all idols you have made. For when you find Him, you will understand how worthless are your idols, and how false the images which you believed were you. Today we make a great advance to truth by letting idols go, and opening our hands and hearts and minds to God today. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.110.9-10)

Because only Love is real, our value lies in the Love we are. The images of the world are substitutes for Love and interfere with our awareness of our real value. To accept the thought that we are as God created us is to accept our real value. To do this we must let go of the artificial values that make us think the images of the world are real. The Holy Spirit is ever present in our minds, offering us the lessons we need to help us undo our attachment to valueless images so that we can return to the awareness of our infinite value in the Mind of God. There is no substitute.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us see the real value — the Love — beyond what we experience in the world of form. As we join with Him, all our doing is motivated by Love and the joy of joining. Our brothers are recognized as one with us in the Self that is the Son of God. Everyone is our Friend, so we are at peace — free of conflict. We walk in gratitude in the way of Love.

Accepting the Serenity of God’s Changeless Love

As God created you, you must remain unchangeable, with transitory states by definition false. And that includes all shifts in feeling, alterations in conditions of the body and the mind; in all awareness and in all response.

The power of decision is our own. And we accept of Him that which we are, and humbly recognize the Son of God. To recognize God’s Son implies as well that all self-concepts have been laid aside, and recognized as false. Their arrogance has been perceived. And in humility the radiance of God’s Son, his gentleness, his perfect sinlessness, his Father’s Love, his right to Heaven and release from hell, are joyously accepted as our own. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.152.5:1-2;10)

Today our practice is to be willing to let the veil be lifted. The truth is we all remain as God created us. As we practice accepting every brother as he truly is, we are shown the radiant light of Love that is really there. As we practice this consistently, we feel God’s peace in the serenity of His changeless Love. We rest content in the changeless certainty of our one Self, which we share with everyone and that is ever present.

You Are the Means for God

It cannot be that it is hard to do the task that Christ appointed you to do, since it is He Who does it. And in the doing of it will you learn the body merely seems to be the means to do it. For the Mind is His. And so it must be yours. His Holiness directs the body through the mind at one with Him.

You are the means for God; not separate, nor with a life apart from His. His life is manifest in you who are His Son. Each aspect of Himself is framed in holiness and perfect purity, in love celestial and so complete it wishes only that it may release all that it looks upon unto itself. Its radiance shines through each body that it looks upon, and brushes all its darkness into light merely by looking past it to the light. The veil is lifted through its gentleness, and nothing hides the face of Christ from its beholders. You and your brother stand before Him now, to let Him draw aside the veil that seems to keep you separate and apart. (A Course in Miracles T-25.I.1:1-5;4)

Today we will practice letting ourselves be carried by the Christ Mind. Today we will step back and follow, letting the Light in our mind lead the way. We welcome the Christ Mind, remembering that This is our true Identity. We want to see the Christ Mind in every brother and, because we are open to the truth, It is there to see. This is our true purpose. We let our true Self work through us today. Thus do we become the means for Love’s extension to our brothers and we learn that we are one.

Letting Go of Belief in Specialness Brings Freedom

To learn this course requires willingness to question every value that you hold. Not one [value] can be kept hidden and obscure but it will jeopardize your learning. No belief is neutral. Every [belief] has the power to dictate each decision you make. For a decision is a conclusion based on everything that you believe. [A decision] is the outcome of belief, and follows it as surely as does suffering follow guilt and freedom sinlessness. There is no substitute for peace. What God creates has no alternative.” (A Course in Miracles T-24.Intro.2:1-8)

Conflict comes with belief in specialness. Differences always conflict. Valuing differences (specialness) invites conflict. There are no differences in Love, because Love is one. Love always joins with Love and sees nothing else.

The nature of Love is to give or extend Itself. To know the Love we are, we must extend It without reservation and without limit. Specialness judges who or what is more worthy of Love than another. This judgment makes Love unknown to us. This is why we must question every value because valuing one thing over another blocks our awareness of the unity of Love.

To free ourselves from this “loss” of Love, we must let Holy Spirit decide all things on our behalf. He is not deceived by illusions of form. He sees past the form to the truth of Love’s oneness. He will teach us to see as He sees and Love as He Loves as we are willing to give up the values we place on the forms of the world and let Him show us the truth that lies behind all belief in specialness. Peace returns as we let go of our belief in specialness. Letting go of this false belief is how we are we freed from the insanity of the ego thought system.

Letting Holy Spirit Decide All Things

Decide that God is right and you are wrong about yourself. He created you out of Himself, but still within Him. He knows what you are. Remember that there is no second to Him. There cannot, therefore, be anyone without His Holiness, nor anyone unworthy of His perfect Love. Fail not in your function of loving in a loveless place made out of darkness and deceit, for thus are darkness and deceit undone.

…Your function here is only to decide against deciding what you want, in recognition that you do not know. How, then, can you decide what you should do? Leave all decisions to the One Who speaks for God, and for your function as He knows it. So will He teach you to remove the awful burden you have laid upon yourself by loving not the Son of God, and trying to teach him guilt instead of love. (A Course in Miracles T-14.IV.4:5-10;5:2-5)

Judgment is a barrier that blinds us to the Love we are. Having denied What we are, all our decisions are based on the mistaken belief that we have succeeded in separating from Love. Decisions based on error only perpetuate the error. If we want to return to the awareness of the Love we are, we must decide to let the Holy Spirit decide all things on our behalf. Relinquishment of the role of judge to the Holy Spirit relieves us of a heavy burden.

From our limited perspective we cannot know what will bring Love’s blessing to everyone, but the Holy Spirit does. The practice of letting Holy Spirit decide all things on our behalf frees us from guilt and teaches us to recognize the Love that is ever present. It frees us from the darkness of judgment and returns us to the joy of Heaven. There can be no greater practice than this, for there is nothing outside of Heaven. Today we practice welcoming the gift of Heaven by letting the Holy Spirit decide all things on our behalf.
