Forgiveness Offers Everything We Want

What could you want forgiveness cannot give? Do you want peace? Forgiveness offers it. Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of sure protection always? Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep, abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset?

All this forgiveness offers you, and more.… Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world. It lets you recognize the Son of God, and clears your memory of all dead thoughts so that remembrance of your Father can arise across the threshold of your mind. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.122.1:1-2:1,3:1-2)

In ACIM Workbook Lesson 24, we are asked to look at the many goals we have for situations in our lives. It points out that the goals we have for each situation often conflict with each other. These goals are reflections of unforgiveness because they are our insistence on having an outcome other than the full experience of our oneness with our Source.

Forgiveness offers us everything we want because it is the way we let go of the ego’s agenda to maintain separation and hide from our oneness with the Love of God. All we really want is to return to His Love. The ego may offer appealing substitutes that seem to be what we want. But we soon discover they are empty.

Forgiveness does not offer an empty promise. It offers us the return to awareness of the Reality of Love we really want and never really lost. Today is happy day of practice to bring all our interpretations in the world to Holy Spirit to let Him replace them with His clear vision. This is how we return to happiness beyond description in this world.
