Accepting the Certainty of God’s Love

I will receive whatever I request.

No one desires pain. ²But he can think that pain is pleasure. ³No one would avoid his happiness. ⁴But he can think that joy is painful, threatening and dangerous. ⁵Everyone will receive what he requests. ⁶But he can be confused indeed about the things he wants; the state he would attain. ⁷What can he then request that he would want when he receives it? ⁸He has asked for what will frighten him, and bring him suffering. ⁹Let us resolve today to ask for what we really want, and only this, that we may spend this day in fearlessness, without confusing pain with joy, or fear with love.

Father, this is Your day. ²It is a day in which I would do nothing by myself, but hear Your Voice in everything I do; requesting only what You offer me, accepting only Thoughts You share with me. (A Course in Miracles, W-339. See also ACIM Lesson 339 Insights.)

While we engage in the dream of separation we believe we are alone. On our own we are in charge of what we experience. But because we believe we are separate, no matter what we do, there always appears to be outside forces that can have an effect on us. Even our most preferred circumstances have an underlying layer of uncertainty.

There is no uncertainty in God’s Love. It is always given His Creations without limit and without end. We are being called to ask for the certain rather than the uncertainty of the dream. God does not withhold anything until we ask for it. It is always already given. But our asking is needed because it welcomes His gifts. Love waits on welcome.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us look past the images of separation and welcome the presence of Love everywhere and everyone. Here we find joy and peace.

Recognizing Our True Self Within

I will not fear to look within today.

Within me is eternal innocence, because it is God’s Will that it be there forever and forever. ²I, His Son, whose will is limitless as is His Own, can will no change in this. ³For to deny my Father’s Will is to deny my own. ⁴To look within is but to find my will as God created it, and as it is. ⁵I fear to look within because I think I made another will that is not true, and made it real. ⁶Yet it has no effects. ⁷Within me is the Holiness of God. ⁸Within me is the memory of Him.

The step I take today, my Father, is my sure release from idle dreams of sin. ²Your altar stands serene and undefiled. ³It is the holy altar to my Self, and there I find my true Identity. (A Course in Miracles, W-309. See also ACIM Lesson 309 Insights.)

Everyone’s true nature is Love. It is our Identity. We have made an image that hides this Identity. This image seems to be easily hurt and must defend itself. It seems to hurt others in its own defense.

Yet o As we forgive the false images we have made, the Light of our Self radiates to the world. It joins with the Light in everyone and remembers It is the Light of God.

The world of images seems very real to us. But we can call upon the Holy Spirit to help us let go of the false images that seem to separate us. With His help, we will see the Love that is the truth in our brothers and recognize It in our Self.

Here we find peace. Let us look within for the Light of Love today.

Choosing Christ’s Vision

Now let a new perception come to me.

Father, there is a vision which beholds all things as sinless, so that fear has gone, and where it was is love invited in. ²And love will come wherever it is asked. ³This vision is Your gift. ⁴The eyes of Christ look on a world forgiven. ⁵In His sight are all its sins forgiven, for He sees no sin in anything He looks upon. ⁶Now let His true perception come to me, that I may waken from the dream of sin and look within upon my sinlessness, which You have kept completely undefiled upon the altar to Your holy Son, the Self with which I would identify.

Let us today behold each other in the sight of Christ. ²How beautiful we are! ³How holy and how loving! ⁴Brother, come and join with me today. ⁵We save the world when we have joined. ⁶For in our vision it becomes as holy as the light in us. We identify with the body as what we are. Everything the body’s eyes see, what it hears and feels, we accept as real. All this is part of the illusion made by the ego, the wish for specialness. The effect of this identification is a sense of loneliness, a lack of Love that motivates a constant search for Love. But Love cannot be found in the forms of the world.

It is time to form a new habit of letting Christ’s vision be our focus. Christ’s vision looks beyond the body to the one Self we all share. It sees the Light of Love everywhere and in everyone. This vision shows us our unity with every brother in the Love we are as one.

This perception sees only innocence, for Love is total. It sees our completion in the oneness of God’s Love. Today we choose this vision in place of the body’s seeing. This vision brings us peace and joy as we join in the eternal flow of God’s Love.

Forgiveness Awakens Us to Love

Fear binds the world. Forgiveness sets it free.

The ego makes illusions. ²Truth undoes its evil dreams by shining them away. ³Truth never makes attack. ⁴It merely is. ⁵And by its presence is the mind recalled from fantasies, awaking to the real. ⁶Forgiveness bids this presence enter in, and take its rightful place within the mind. ⁷Without forgiveness is the mind in chains, believing in its own futility. ⁸Yet with forgiveness does the light shine through the dream of darkness, offering it hope, and giving it the means to realize the freedom that is its inheritance.

We would not bind the world again today. ²Fear holds it prisoner. ³And yet Your Love has given us the means to set it free. ⁴Father, we would release it now. ⁵For as we offer freedom, it is given us. ⁶And we would not remain as prisoners, while You are holding freedom out to us. (A Course in Miracles, W-332. See also ACIM Lesson 332 Insights.)

There is advise sometimes offered for relationships. The suggestion is “Choose your battles.” This implies some battles are important and worth fighting for. But in Truth, nothing in the world is real. Nothing in the world is worth fighting for.

We need to learn that all forms are meaningless. Rather than fight to keep our illusions, we need to simply lay them down. We have help for this. When we are willing, the Holy Spirit will help us recognize that forms are meaningless and do not matter.

When we learn to see past forms with His help, we see that there is nothing that needs to be fought for. We let go of the meaning we have given to forms and experience the truth of limitless Love. It is ours, now and forever.

We Remain United with Our Creator

My holiness shines bright and clear today.

Today I wake with joy, expecting but the happy things of God to come to me. ²I ask but them to come, and realize my invitation will be answered by the thoughts to which [my invitation] has been sent by me. ³And I will ask for only joyous things the instant I accept my holiness. ⁴For what would be the use of pain to me, what purpose would my suffering fulfill, and how would grief and loss avail me if insanity departs from me today, and I accept my holiness instead?

Father, my holiness is Yours. ²Let me rejoice in it, and through forgiveness be restored to sanity. ³Your Son is still as You created him. ⁴My holiness is part of me, and also part of You. ⁵And what can alter Holiness Itself? (A Course in Miracles, W-285. See also ACIM Lesson 285 Insights.)

God created us as extensions of Himself. He did not disconnect from His Creation. We share all His attributes — His holiness, His Love, His joy and His peace.

We do not see ourselves as having God’s attributes because we have denied our unity with Him. The ego turns that denial around telling us God abandoned us. It is this core belief that we need to forgive. This belief that we are separate from God is played out with the image that we are a body in a world of separate bodies in separate things. Each time we forgive, when we are able to see past the form to the presence of Love, we are forgiving the belief that we are separate from God.

The myriad images of separation in the dream make it appear that there is much to forgive. But at their core there is one thing to forgive — the belief that we separated from God. The invitation to accept His holiness as ours expresses our willingness to accept His gift of all of Himself. The Holy Spirit is given us to help us recognize our mistaken beliefs and let them go.

We will awaken to our holiness as we let the Holy Spirit teach us how to accept that we remain united with our Creator.

How to Have a Joyous Day

Choosing through the Holy Spirit will lead you to the Kingdom. ²You create by your true being, but what you are you must learn to remember. …⁴If you allow yourself to have in your mind only what God put there, you are acknowledging your mind as God created it. ⁵Therefore, you are accepting it as it is.

Truth is without illusions and therefore within the Kingdom. ²Everything outside the Kingdom is illusion. ³When you threw truth away you saw yourself as if you were without it. ⁴By making another kingdom that you valued, you did not keep only the Kingdom of God in your mind, and thus placed part of your mind outside [the Kingdom]. ⁵What you made has imprisoned your will, and given you a sick mind that must be healed. ⁶Your vigilance against this sickness is the way to heal it. ⁷Once your mind is healed it radiates health, and thereby teaches healing.

²The Holy Spirit will enable you to take this step, if you follow Him. ³Your vigilance is the sign that you want Him to guide you. ⁴Vigilance does require effort, but only until you learn that effort itself is unnecessary. Today can be a day for opening our mind to remember we dwell in Love. It can be a day of peace and happiness. We experience this day by being vigilant of our thoughts. As we observe thoughts of judgment, we ask the Holy Spirit to show us His perception. He will show us the Love beyond the image that we judge.

We can celebrate with the Holy Spirit our loving thoughts that embrace the truth of the Love in our brothers. There is no greater joy than accepting our oneness in the Love of God. We express our gratitude throughout the day that we have the Holy Spirit to guide us to this recognition.

We Find Peace in Our One Self

The ego’s fundamental wish is to replace God. ²In fact, the ego is the physical embodiment of that wish. ³For it is that wish that seems to surround the mind with a body, keeping it separate and alone, and unable to reach other minds except through the body that was made to imprison it.

⁴A person says something you do not like. ⁵He does something that displeases you. ⁶He “betrays” his hostile thoughts in his behavior.

You are not dealing here with what the person is. ²On the contrary, you are exclusively concerned with what he does in a body. ³You are doing more than failing to help in freeing him from the body’s limitations. ⁴You are actively trying to hold him to it by confusing it with him, and judging them as one.

…every grievance that you hold insists that the body is real. ⁷It overlooks entirely what your brother is. ⁸It reinforces your belief that he is a body, and condemns him for it.

…while the body stands at the center of your concept of yourself, you are attacking God’s plan for salvation, and holding your grievances against Him and His creation, that you may not hear the Voice of truth and welcome It as Friend.

The light of truth is in us, where it was placed by God. ²It is the body that is outside us, and is not our concern. ³To be without a body is to be in our natural state. ⁴To recognize the light of truth in us is to recognize ourselves as we are. ⁵To see our Self as separate from the body is to end the attack on God’s plan for salvation, and to accept it instead. We cannot be at peace while we identify with a body. The body is a limit made to hide the Self God created as His Son. But God and His Creation cannot be limited, except in fantasies. We have accepted the fantasy of separation with the wish for specialness.

We believe the body is our identity and accept its vulnerability. We believe we can harm and be harmed and must constantly defend the body. We hold grievances against other bodies that seem capable of harming us.

The Self we are knows no limitations and disregards the body as meaningless. Our Self knows it is joined in the one Self that unites us with everyone. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us recognize the one Self that joins us with everyone. In that recognition, we will find peace.
