Learning to See Love Everywhere

It would indeed be strange if you were asked to go beyond all symbols of the world, forgetting them forever; yet were asked to take a teaching function. You have need to use the symbols of the world a while. But be you not deceived by them as well. They do not stand for anything at all, and in your practicing it is this thought that will release you from them. They become but means by which you can communicate in ways the world can understand, but which you recognize is not the unity where true communication can be found.

Thus what you need are intervals each day in which the learn­ing of the world becomes a transitory phase; a prison house from which you go into the sunlight and forget the darkness. Here you understand the Word, the Name which God has given you; the one Identity which all things share; the one acknowledgment of what is true. And then step back to darkness, not because you think it real, but only to proclaim its unreality in terms which still have meaning in the world that darkness rules.

The Holy Spirit uses all [names and symbols], but He does not forget creation has one Name, one meaning, and a single Source which unifies all things within Itself. Use all the names the world bestows on them but for convenience, yet do not forget they share the Name [Identity] of God along with you. Our true Identity is beyond the world we see, sharing the limitlessness of our Creator. It is not limited to an image, a form or a certain space and time. This fact is incomprehensible to the mind that believes separation from Love is real. We need to let go of the beliefs which blind us to the eternal presence of limitless Love. Only our beliefs make a loveless world seem real. Only in Love’s oneness is true communication—the eternal flow of Love—possible.

It is impossible to define Love in the symbols and words of the world. But symbols can be used by the Holy Spirit to teach us how to recognize the barriers to Love we have made. With His help the barriers are dispelled, if we are willing to accept His reinterpretation of our perceptions.

We want the peace of God. Today we practice asking the Holy Spirit for His help to see past our barriers to Love and let them go. We are willing to see the Light of Love everywhere, in everyone and in all things. We teach only Love and learn we are Love.

Accepting Our Identity as Love

God has no name. And yet His Name [Identity] becomes the final lesson that all things are one, and at this lesson does all learning end. All names are unified; all space is filled with truth’s reflection. Every gap is closed, and separation healed. [God’s Identity — Love — is the inheritance He gave to those who chose the teaching of the world to take the place of Heaven. In our practicing, our pur­pose is to let our minds accept [the Identity] God has given as the answer to the pitiful inheritance you made as fitting tribute to the Son He loves.

Father, our Name is Yours. In It we are united with all living things, and You Who are their one Creator. What we made and call by many different names is but a shadow we have tried to cast across Your Own reality. And we are glad and thankful we were wrong. All our mistakes we give to You, that we may be absolved from all effects our errors seemed to have. And we accept the truth You give, in place of every one of them. Your Name is our salvation and escape from what we made. Your Name unites us in the oneness which is our inheritance and peace. Amen. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 184, W-pI.184.12;15. God shared His Identity with His Son, our true Self. Because God is one, His Son shares His oneness. Nothing exists outside of God’s Love. No form, no separate image can be real because form denies the reality of oneness. The fear and guilt, the images of sickness and death, the appearances of lack and loss, cannot be real. They are all based on the false idea that it is possible to be separate from God’s oneness.

Because God shared His one Identity with His Son, all we need do to awaken to Love is accept God’s Identity as our own — accept that we are Love and nothing else. The world we perceive is healed when we accept the Love we are. We do this by forgiving, letting go of, the judgments that make separation appear real. Each time we give a name to an object or an event, we make it real to us by judging it as separate and giving it meaning. An illusion has no meaning of its own. When we withdraw the meaning we give an illusion, the illusion fades away. Then the Love the illusion hid dawns upon our mind. This is how we accept the Identity of God as our own.

Our prayer to day: Holy Spirit I give to you my mistaken thoughts about what I am. I choose instead to accept Your vision that shows me the Love I am in truth. I accept this Love by offering It to every brother.

Our Joyful To-Do List

There is no end to all the peace and joy,
And all the miracles that I will give,
When I accept God’s Word. Why not today?

Why should I wait, my Father, for the joy You promised me? For You will keep Your Word You gave Your Son in exile. I am sure my treasure waits for me, and I need but reach out my hand to find it. Even now my fingers touch it. It is very close. I need not wait an instant more to be at peace forever. It is You I choose, and my Identity along with You. Your Son would be Himself, and know You as his Father and Creator, and his Love. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 355, W-pII.355. See also ACIM Lesson 355 Insights.)

God’s gifts of peace and joy are within us, hidden behind a wall built by our choice to exile ourselves from the Self that is God’s Son. This exile was not God’s choice. It is our choice to believe we are separate and isolated from the Universe of God’s Love.

When we undo this choice, we accept God’s gifts and bring them to the world. It is only in sharing His gifts that we know we have them. We share God’s gifts by letting the Holy Spirit direct all thoughts, words and deeds on our behalf. As we dedicate our day to following His lead, we choose a day of giving and receiving God’s joy and peace. This to-do list awakens us to our true Self, along with every brother. It is a joyful choice to answer God’s call, “Welcome Home My Son.”

Bringing Love to a Troubled World

God is but Love, and therefore so am I.

I will step back and let Him lead the way.

I walk with God in perfect holiness.
God is but Love, and therefore so am I.

Into His Presence would I enter now.

Today I learn to give [Love] as I receive [Love].

We give Love by seeing Love. We see Love when we let our true Self (Love) guide our seeing. Love sees only Itself everywhere, for nothing else exists.

In this time in the world, the practice of letting Love guide all our perceptions, thoughts, words and actions frees us from the fear that perception of separation fosters. It keeps our mind open to our true Self to accept the Love we are. Accepting this Love, we naturally extend It to the world. We give as we receive. This is how we bless the world and experience Love’s blessing ourselves.

Let’s join together in this practice today to bring Love’s healing to a troubled world.

How to Have a Joyous Day

Forgiveness is the key to happiness.

Here is the answer to your search for peace. Here is the key to meaning in a world that seems to make no sense. Here is the way to safety in apparent dangers that appear to threaten you at every turn, and bring uncertainty to all your hopes of ever fin­d­ing quietness and peace. Here are all questions answered; here the end of all uncertainty ensured at last.

The unforgiving mind is full of fear, and offers love no room to be itself; no place where it can spread its wings in peace and soar above the turmoil of the world.

Forgiveness is acquired. It is not inherent in the mind, which cannot sin. As sin is an idea you taught yourself, forgiveness must be learned by you as well, but from a Teacher other than yourself, Who represents the other Self in you. Through Him you learn how to forgive the self you think you made, and let it disappear. Thus you return your mind as one to Him Who is your Self, and Who can never sin [separate from God].

Each unforgiving mind presents you with an opportunity to teach your own how to forgive itself. Each one awaits release from hell through you, and turns to you imploringly for Heaven here and now. It has no hope, but you become its hope. And as its hope, do you become your own. The unforgiving mind must learn through your forgiveness that it has been saved from hell. And as you teach salvation, you will learn. Yet all your teaching and your learning will be not of you, but of the Teacher Who was given you to show the way to you. We have convinced ourselves that we have successfully separated from God. We believe we are alone and capable of judging a world we perceive is outside of us. We believe that learning this lesson is essential for our survival. Yet it is a lesson that teaches us an illusionary self-image is real. Judgment maintains the seeming reality of this delusion.

This is why forgiveness is the means to awaken from this delusion of fear, guilt and unhappiness. The practice of taking all our judgments to the Holy Spirit to receive His lesson in Love opens the door to let in God’s joy. We let in His Love, which we naturally extend to the world when we accept His gift. Joy is an attribute of His Love, so it could be said that forgiveness is the key to Love. Forgiveness is Love’s reflection in the world (W-pII.352).

Today let us join in the practice of accepting the Holy Spirit’s forgiving vision in place of our judgments. It will be a joyous day indeed.

The Path to Peace and Happiness

Be vigilant only for God and His Kingdom.

I have already told you that you can be as vigilant against the ego as for it. This lesson teaches not only that you can be, but that you must be [vigilant against the ego].

If you allow yourself to have in your mind only what God put there, you are acknowledging your mind as God created it. Therefore, you are accepting it as it is.

Truth is without illusions and therefore within the Kingdom. Everything outside the Kingdom is illusion. When you threw truth away you saw yourself as if you were without it. By making another kingdom that you valued, you did not keep only the Kingdom of God in your mind, and thus placed part of your mind outside it. What you made has imprisoned your will, and given you a sick mind that must be healed. Your vigilance against this sickness is the way to heal it. Once your mind is healed it radiates health, and thereby teaches healing.

Your vigilance is the sign that you want Him to guide you. Vigilance does require effort, but only until you learn that effort itself is unnecessary. (A Course in Miracles, T-6.V.C.2:8;4:2-3;5:4-5;9:1-7;10:3-4. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

If we want the peace of God and His Love, we need to consistently follow the Holy Spirit’s lead. The Holy Spirit’s only purpose is to guide our unhealed mind back to God’s Kingdom. The way to be vigilant only for God and His Kingdom is to consistently be attentive to the Holy Spirit’s presence in our mind. As we follow His direction, we recognize the illusions of the world as meaningless and look past them to the eternal Presence of Love. This is God’s Kingdom, our Home.

This practice restores our mind to wholeness by dispelling the ego beliefs. It frees us from the limitations of the ego to the unlimited extension of God’s Love through our mind. This is the path to peace and happiness.

Answering God’s Call

Certain pupils have been assigned to each of God’s teachers, and they will begin to look for him as soon as he has answered the Call. They were chosen for him because the form of the universal curriculum that he will teach is best for them in view of their level of understanding. His pupils have been waiting for him, for his coming is certain. Again, it is only a matter of time. Once he has chosen to fulfill his role, they are ready to fulfill theirs. Time waits on his choice, but not on whom he will serve. When he is ready to learn, the opportunities to teach will be provided for him.

God’s Teacher speaks to any two who join together for learning purposes. The relationship is holy because of that purpose, and God has promised to send His Spirit into any holy relationship. In the teaching-learning situation, each one learns that giving and receiving are the same. The demarcations they have drawn between their roles, their minds, their bodies, their needs, their interests, and all the differences they thought separated them from one another, fade and grow dim and disappear. Those who would learn the same course share one interest and one goal. And thus he who was the learner becomes a teacher of God himself, for he has made the one decision that gave his teacher to him. He has seen in another person the same interests as his own. (A Course in Miracles, M-2.1;5:3-9)

What does it mean to “answer the Call”? The Holy Spirit, the Voice for God, is always calling to us. He offers us His vision to see past the images of separation in the world. We answer His Call when we are willing to accept His vision to see the one Self Which unites us with every brother.

As we accept His vision, we teach by demonstration that there are, in fact, no differences between each brother. With this vision, we see past the imagined barriers in the world and join in the one Self we share. Appearances of separation and differences fade and the Light of Love that shines within us all is clearly seen. Fear and conflict dissolve and we join in holy union with the holiness in our brothers. Today we choose to answer the Call by letting the Holy Spirit guide our thoughts, words and actions throughout the day.
