Hastening Our Awakening to Love

I am one Self, united with my Creator.

Serenity and perfect peace are mine, because I am one Self, completely whole, at one with all creation and with God.

Salvation comes from my one Self.

From my one Self, Whose knowledge still remains within my mind, I see God’s perfect plan for my salva­tion perfectly fulfilled. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 133, W-pI.133:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 133 Insights.)

We have mistaken an image of a self, limited to a body, as our identity. This lesson is teaching us that we have a true Identity, our one Self, that remains eternally united with our Creator. There is nothing outside of this one Self. Within Its unity is the Love of God and nothing else.

Its oneness excludes the possibility of differences, of anything that could possibly change the Self that God created one with Him. We cannot lose this one Self because It was created by God to be as unchangeable as Himself. The acceptance of this fact is our salvation.

The affirmations in this lesson are God’s guarantee that not only is our one Self eternally united with Him, but that we can awaken to the reality of our Self. We cannot lose what God has given us. We may dream of a false, separate identity, but we still have the knowledge of our true Self.

Our true Self calls to us from the center of peace in our mind to waken from the dream. Let’s practice pausing for peace frequently today so we can answer this call and see the world as our true Self sees it. Thus we hasten our awakening to Love.

Make Way for Love

Condemn your savior [brother] not because he thinks he is a body. For beyond his dreams is his reality. But he must learn he is a savior first, before he can remember what he is. And he must save who would be saved. On saving you depends his happiness. For who is savior but the one who gives salvation [Love]? Thus he learns it must be his to give. Unless he gives he will not know he has, for giving is the proof of having.

He must be savior from the dream he made, that he be free of it. He must see someone else as not a body, one with him without the wall the world has built to keep apart all living things who know not that they live.

Within the dream of bodies and of death is yet one theme of truth; no more, perhaps, than just a tiny spark, a space of light created in the dark, where God still shines. You cannot wake yourself. Yet you can let yourself be wakened. You can overlook your brother’s dreams. So perfectly can you forgive him his illusions he becomes your savior from your dreams. And as you see him shining in the space of light where God abides within the darkness, you will see that God Himself is where his body is. Before this light the body disappears, as heavy shadows must give way to light. The darkness cannot choose that it remain. The coming of the light means [darkness] is gone. In glory will you see your brother then, and understand what really fills the gap so long perceived as keeping you apart. There, in its place, God’s witness has set forth the gentle way of kindness to God’s Son. Whom you forgive is given power to forgive you your illusions. By your gift of freedom is it given unto you.

Make way for love, which you did not create, but which you can extend. On earth this means forgive your brother, that the darkness may be lifted from your mind. (A Course in Miracles, T-29.III.1:1-8;2:6-7;3:2-4:2. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Every judgment we hold in our mind must be forgiven, for judgment can only be justified if we believe what we judge is separate from ourselves. When we have completely forgiven all our mistaken beliefs, we no longer judge our brother as a separate body. We have let go of the limitations we tried to impose on God’s Son. We see our brother as the extension of God’s Love he is and learn that we are one with him in that Love.

When we see our brother truly, we know that our interests are the same. We share the unified desire to extend only Love and learn that Love is What we are.

All We Want Is the Peace of God

I want the peace of God.

To say these words is nothing. But to mean these words is everything. If you could but mean them for just an instant, there would be no further sorrow possible for you in any form; in any place or time. Heaven would be completely given back to full awareness, memory of God entirely restored, the resurrection of all creation fully recognized.

No one can mean these words and not be healed. He cannot play with dreams, nor think he is himself a dream. He cannot make a hell and think it real. He wants the peace of God, and it is given him. For that is all he wants, and that is all he will receive.

No one who truly seeks the peace of God can fail to find it. For he merely asks that he deceive himself no longer by denying to himself what is God’s Will. Who can remain unsatisfied who asks for what he has already? Who could be unanswered who requests an answer which is his to give? The peace of God is yours. The world we perceive is anything but peaceful. The news is filled with reports of lack, sickness and death. This very fact confirms that this world is a dream. It denies God’s Love and peace; it denies Heaven. We perceive this world only because we have deceived ourselves into believing we want the individuality and specialness separation (the ego) offers.

To affirm that we want the peace of God means we no longer want to deny Love; we no longer want a separate identity. We no longer want the limited, little self identified as a body with an individual personality.

In fact, we want to accept what God gave His Son in His Creation. We want to be our true Self. Wanting only the peace of God sets us free from all limitation. Our true Self has no limits because it is one with the Love of God.

Today we join with every brother in remembering that in our hearts everyone wants God’s gifts of peace, Love and joy. Everyone wants to awaken to the one Self that is the Son of God.

Following the Guide to Safety

Where darkness was I look upon the light.

Father, our eyes are opening at last. Your holy world awaits us, as our sight is finally restored and we can see. We thought we suffered. But we had forgot the Son whom You created. Now we see that dark­ness is our own imagining, and light is there for us to look upon. Christ’s vision changes darkness into light, for fear must disappear when love has come. Let me forgive Your holy world today, that I may look upon its holiness and understand it but reflects my own.

Our Love awaits us as we go to Him, and walks beside us showing us the way. He fails in nothing. He the End we seek, and He the Means by which we go to Him. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 302, W-pII.302. See also ACIM Lesson 302 Insights.)

The world our body’s eyes show us is a lie. It is an image reflecting our belief in separation, which denies the reality of Love.

So how do we respond to the appearances of sickness and death in the world? We do not deny that we perceive these fearful images. Instead we turn them over to the Holy Spirit, asking Him to help us forgive the thoughts that trigger our fear. He will help us release our misperceptions and show us the Light of Love in which we live and have our being. These transforming perceptions bring us peace of mind and certainty of our safety. Our true Self cannot be harmed, cannot die.

Today we practice quieting our mind and focusing on the center of peace within. Letting this peace grow stronger in our awareness opens our mind to the Holy Spirit’s guidance for what to do, where to go, what to say and to whom. We choose Him as our Guide moment by moment and let Him lead us to our true, eternal Self, united in the oneness of God’s Love.

Love is the Answer

You have been told to bring the darkness to the light, and guilt to holiness. And you have also been told that error must be corrected at its source. Therefore, it is the tiny part of yourself, the little thought that seems split off and separate, the Holy Spirit needs. The rest is fully in God’s keeping, and needs no guide. Yet this wild and delusional thought needs help because, in its delusions, it thinks it is the Son of God, whole and omnipotent, sole ruler of the kingdom it set apart to tyrannize by madness into obedience and slavery. This is the little part you think you stole from Heaven. Give it back to Heaven. Heaven has not lost it, but you have lost sight of Heaven. Let the Holy Spirit remove it from the withered kingdom in which you set it off, surrounded by darkness, guarded by attack and reinforced by hate. Within its barricades is still a tiny segment of the Son of God, complete and holy, serene and unaware of what you think surrounds it. (A Course in Miracles, T-18.IX.1. The source of the world we see is the tiny part of our mind that believes it is separate and alone, devoid of Love’s oneness, powerless against outside forces and limited to a body. The fear, guilt, anger, sickness and death of this world come from this little part of the mind that believes that what could never be true is real. It seems to be a lonely world though it is surrounded and held safely in the Arms of Love.

No one is excluded from this Love. Only our denial of Reality makes it seem that we live in a loveless place. This denial has no effect on the eternal presence of Love. This Love is available to us to reclaim in every instant. We claim it by letting go of our mistaken belief in being separate.

The help we need to forgive this error is given us in our minds as God’s Voice. We hear this Voice by being willing to consider that we may be mistaken in our belief. This willingness opens our mind and hearts to receive the Holy Spirit’s message: “You are the Child of Love, complete and whole. This could never change, for It shares the changelessness of God Himself.”

Today we practice affirming this thought about everyone we meet, talk to or think about. God excludes no one, nor must we. We choose to let the Light of Love shine through us throughout the day.

Healing the Cause of the Dream of Sickness

The self you made is not the Son of God. Therefore, this self does not exist at all. And anything it seems to do and think means nothing. It is neither bad nor good. It is unreal, and noth­ing more than that.

Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Over and over this must be repeated, until it is accepted. It is true. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Nothing can touch it, or change what God created as eternal. The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.

Salvation requires the acceptance of but one thought;—you are as God created you, not what you made of yourself. Whatever evil you may think you did, you are as God created you. What­ever mistakes you made, the truth about you is unchanged. Creation is eternal and unalterable. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. The little self we think we are, vulnerable, fearful and limited, was made by the ego’s denial of the Love that created our true Self. Only Love is real. The denial of Reality must be unreal. The recognition of this fact saves us from the world where we experience fear and guilt, sickness and death.

The truth sets us free from the little self that could never be true. Our true Self remains as Love created It. Our true Self remains innocent, guaranteed by God.

Today we will frequently affirm, “My sinlessness is guaranteed by God.” This repetition helps us break free from the trance of belief in being separate and alone, disconnected from God. It heals the mind of the mistaken belief in lack of Love. It heals the cause of the dream of sickness and death by helping us accept that we remain as God created us.

Seeing Love’s Presence Everywhere

I am not a body. I am free.

I am God’s Son. Be still, my mind, and think a moment upon this. And then return to earth, without confusion as to what my Father loves forever as His Son.

There is no peace except the peace of God.

Let me not wander from the way of peace, for I am lost on other roads than this. But let me follow Him Who leads me home, and peace is certain as the Love of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 219, W-pI.219.1:1-5.220.1:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 219 Insights.)

In this time of turmoil, it is important to remember who, what and where we truly are. We are God’s Son, united with Him in all His peace, joy and Love. We are not a body; we are Spirit. We are not limited nor bound in the dream world. Our true Self remains in Heaven, unaffected by appearances in the dream world.

Following the lead of the Holy Spirit is the means to awaken from the dream and remember the certain safety that is our Home in God’s Love. Today we practice frequently pausing to relax into the center of peace within. We let that peace flow through us and experience its blessing by offering it to the world. God’s peace heals our fear-based thoughts, revealing Love’s Presence everywhere.
