Forgiveness Heals Our Mind

Just as forgiveness overlooks all sins that never were ac­complished, healing but removes illusions that have not oc­curred. Just as the real world will arise to take the place of what has never been at all, healing but offers restitution for imagined states and false ideas which dreams embroider into pictures of the truth.

[The Holy Spirit’s] gentle lessons teach how easily salvation can be yours; how little practice you need undertake to let His laws replace the ones you made to hold yourself a prisoner to death. His life becomes your own, as you extend the little help He asks in freeing you from everything that ever caused you pain.

And as you let yourself be healed, you see all those around you, or who cross your mind, or whom you touch or those who seem to have no contact with you, healed along with you. Perhaps you will not recognize them all, nor realize how great your offering to all the world, when you let healing come to you. But you are never healed alone. And legions upon legions will receive the gift that you receive when you are healed.

Forgiveness occurs in the mind. It is the letting go of a false idea that represented a belief in the reality of separation. This false idea projects the illusion of a world of differences where time, space and forms define separate objects in separate places at separate points in time. Yet in the oneness of Love, differences are impossible. Thus the projected world is simply a dream of illusions that could never be real.

The Source of these illusions must be healed through forgiveness to release the mind from false beliefs. We welcome forgiveness by being willing to accept the Holy Spirit’s help to undo our mistaken beliefs. Willingness begins with accepting the possibility that we do not know what our perceptions mean.

This open door allows us to welcome the Holy Spirit’s interpretation. He will always teach us to look beyond appearances in the world to the presence of Love. He will teach us that attack, harm or loss represent a call for Love because they come from denying Love.

With His help the calls for Love are answered with Christ’s vision that teaches us we are Love, along with every brother. As the Holy Spirit’s lessons are accepted, our mind is healed. The world is transformed from a dream of threat and fear to opportunities to release illusions and extend Love. In this practice we learn that we are Love by teaching only Love.

Paying Attention to God’s Voice Brings Peace

God’s healing Voice protects all things today.

Let us today attend the Voice for God, which speaks an ancient lesson, no more true today than any other day. Yet has this day been chosen as the time when we will seek and hear and learn and understand. Join me in hearing. For the Voice for God tells us of things we cannot understand alone, nor learn apart. It is in this that all things are protected. And in this the healing of the Voice for God is found.

Your healing Voice protects all things today, and so I leave all things to You. I need be anxious over nothing. For Your Voice will tell me what to do and where to go; to whom to speak and what to say to him, what thoughts to think, what words to give the world. The safety that I bring is given me. God’s Voice is the unbreakable link between God and His Son. It assures us that we cannot be lost forever in the ego’s dream of separation. His Voice remains forever in our mind. It is accessible if we are willing to listen and learn.

Our attention to the ego has taught us to believe we are an identity separate from God and alone in a loveless world. Everything we perceive in the world seems to confirm that separation is real. We feel incomplete and need to search for the Love that will complete us.

If we are willing to consider that our perceptions may be mistaken and pause to connect with the presence of peace within, we will find Help. Whatever our need seems to be, His Voice will guide us very specifically in the direction that helps us recognize the presence of Love in our minds and in the world. It may guide us to a book, inspire a new thought, a conversation may help or we may be guided to go to a place or an event. Under His leadership, we will experience a deepening awareness of our safety in the certainty of God’s Love. We choose to attend to His Voice today.

Being a Messenger of Love

I will not be afraid of love today.

If I could realize but this today, salvation would be reached for all the world. This the decision not to be insane, and to accept myself as God Himself, my Father and my Source, created me. This the determination not to be asleep in dreams of death, while truth remains forever living in the joy of love. And this the choice to recognize the Self Whom God created as the Son He loves, and Who remains my one Identity.

Father, Your Name is Love and so is mine. Such is the truth. And can the truth be changed by merely giving it another name? The name of fear is simply a mistake. Let me not be afraid of truth today. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 282, W-pII.282. See also ACIM Lesson 282 Insights.)

Love is the one condition in which our safety is guaranteed, our joy complete and peace is undisturbed. It is our natural state because it is the condition in which we were created by God, eternally united with Himself. It is the only condition in which we are at Home.

The ego is afraid of Love because only Love is real and thus separation must be unreal. This means the ego is not real. Real and unreal cannot coexist. The ego’s seeming existence depends on the belief in a world of separation. This belief makes separation seem real. To maintain its seeming existence, the ego must constantly defend against the reality of Love’s oneness.

As we let the Holy Spirit heal our mistaken beliefs in separation, fear of Love diminishes. Today we choose the Voice of Love as our Guide to true perception. We want to remember the Self God created as Love. We want to experience His joy and peace. We want to bring Love’s message to the world by demonstrating our acceptance of Love. This is our intention for today.

Living in the World with Holy Spirit’s Lead

I place the future in the Hands of God.

You are but asked to let the future go, and place it in God’s Hands. And you will see by your experience that you have laid the past and present in His Hands as well, because the past will punish you no more, and future dread will now be meaningless.

As [today’s idea] becomes a thought that rules your mind, a habit in your problem-solving repertoire, a way of quick reaction to temptation, you extend your learning to the world. And as you learn to see salvation in all things, so will the world perceive that it is saved.

What worry can beset the one who gives his future to the lov­ing Hands of God? What can he suffer? What can cause him pain, or bring experience of loss to him? What can he fear? And what can he regard except with love? For he who has escaped all fear of future pain has found his way to present peace, and certainty of care the world can never threaten. He is sure that his perception may be faulty, but will never lack correction. He is free to choose again when he has been deceived; to change his mind when he has made mistakes.

Most of us put a lot of thought and time into making plans. Some of us make lists and we rely on established habits to carry us through our days. This seems necessary for our survival. How could we cover our expenses, have food to eat or a roof over our head without having some kind of plan? It is important to consider the guide we choose in making these plans.

The ego makes plans based upon the past. Its thoughts about the future are always constructed from memories of the past. The ego’s plans skip over the present, avoiding the memory of ever present Love. This insures that the future will be like the past with all its fears and guilt.

But if we place the future in the hands of God, the future is a continuation of the eternal Love in the present instant. In God’s hands, we are guaranteed perfect safety, joy and peace of mind—all our needs are met. As we let the Holy Spirit guide our plans, God’s Love is reflected in our experience in the dream. We are guided in what to think, say and do.

Our relationships reflect our unity in Love. Our doing is done with kindness, compassion and helpfulness. Our thoughts reflect our perception of the Love in our brothers. Our words are given us by the Holy Spirit to bring understanding and healing to our brothers and ourselves. Our lists are inspired by Him. Every moment reinforces our awareness of the Love we are by teaching us to overlook our mistaken beliefs and see the presence of Love.

How to Choose the Joy of God

I feel the Love of God within me now.

The Love of God is what created me. The Love of God is everything I am. The Love of God proclaimed me as His Son. The Love of God within me sets me free.

I choose the joy of God instead of pain.

Pain is my own idea. It is not a Thought of God, but one I thought apart from Him and from His Will. His Will is joy, and only joy for His beloved Son. And that I choose, in­stead of what I made.

I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.

If I am still as God created me and I am not a body, then God must not have created the body. This is the key to releasing ourselves from the experience of pain, loss and limitation. God created us as Love, eternally united with Himself. Only Love is real. What is not Love does not exist.

As long as we believe we are a body, we cannot know the Love of God. Occasionally we may have glimpses of Love so profound and brilliant in Its Light that It is indescribable. Yet this experience cannot be long maintained while we still hold the idea that we are a body. But we can free ourselves from this self-imposed limitation.

Forgiveness is the key to freedom from the body’s limitation. If we are willing to let the Holy Spirit’s dream of forgiveness heal our mistaken beliefs, we will become increasingly aware of the Love we are. We will feel the comfort of God’s Love. God’s joy will fill our mind as His Love shines away fear’s darkness. We choose the joy of God today by choosing Holy Spirit as our Guide through the day.

Journey Home to Love

I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt.

Loss is not loss when properly perceived. Pain is impossible. There is no grief with any cause at all. And suffering of any kind is nothing but a dream. This is the truth, at first to be but said and then repeated many times; and next to be accepted as but partly true, with many reservations. Then to be considered seri­ously more and more, and finally accepted as the truth. I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt. And I would go beyond these words today, and past all reservations, and arrive at full acceptance of the truth in them.

Father, what You have given cannot hurt, so grief and pain must be impossible. Let me not fail to trust in You today, accepting but the joyous as Your gifts; accepting but the joyous as the truth. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 284, W-pII.284. See also ACIM Lesson 284 Insights.)

The ego does not trust God at all. In fact, it is suspicious that God is prepared to attack it at any moment. Because of this, the ego is constantly defending against the fact that God created His Son one with Him.

Acceptance of this fact would dispel the ego into the nothingness from which it came. The ego is not real, never was nor ever can be. The best it can do is dream of a world that makes the ego, the belief in separation, seem real. This dream is maintained only by our belief in it. This is the key to our release from the dream and return to our safety in the eternal presence of Love.

Beliefs can be changed. When beliefs are changed, their consequences are changed. Our safety in the Heaven of Love is a fact that does not change because only Love is real. We need only accept this one fact. But our belief in the dream denies Reality. The effect of beliefs that deny Reality is the dream of the world in which it seems possible to be hurt.

We start the journey out of this world of hurt built on false beliefs by first acknowledging that there must be a better way. As we practice letting the Holy Spirit show us the constancy of Love beyond the projections of our mistaken beliefs, our beliefs begin to change. More and more we question these beliefs that make a world in which we feel vulnerable, alone and lacking Love.

With practice, the presence of Love is increasingly acknowledged and accepted. Our experience in the world is more peaceful and happy. The certainty of the Love in which we have our being strengthens. When we no longer reserve one belief that denies Love, we awaken to our Self, the Son of God at Home in Heaven.

Forgiveness Brings Happiness and Peace

The happy dreams the Holy Spirit brings are different from the dreaming of the world, where one can merely dream he is awake. The dreams forgiveness lets the mind perceive do not induce another form of sleep, so that the dreamer dreams another dream. His happy dreams are heralds of the dawn of truth upon the mind. They lead from sleep to gentle waking, so that dreams are gone. And thus they cure for all eternity.

Atonement heals with certainty, and cures all sickness. For the mind which understands that sickness can be nothing but a dream is not deceived by forms the dream may take. Sickness where guilt is absent cannot come, for [sickness] is but another form of guilt. Atonement does not heal the sick, for that is not a cure. It takes away the guilt that makes the sickness possible. And that is cure indeed. For sickness now is gone, with nothing left to which it can return.

Forgiveness is the dominant theme in A Course in Miracles. This is because guilt is the core problem in the world. Without belief in guilt there would be no sickness, sadness, anger or fear. Guilt is the glue that binds the world of separation to our perception.

The practice of accepting Holy Spirit’s help to forgive our guilty beliefs leads to the undoing of guilt. We have accepted the Atonement when we have undone all guilt in our mind through forgiveness. We awaken from the dream of guilt into the Light of Love.

Had we not convinced ourselves that we are a separate identity in a world of separation, there would be no need for forgiveness. Without forgiveness we would have permanently imprisoned ourselves in a dream world of guilt and fear.

The Holy Spirit offers an alternate dream of release from this world through forgiveness. We access the Holy Spirit’s forgiving dream by questioning the meaning of all our perceptions. With this open mind, we ask the Holy Spirit for His true perception. His dream of forgiveness dismisses the false as meaningless and brings to light the only real meaning—the presence of Love. Each time we accept His reinterpretation, we welcome peace and happiness into our mind. This is our practice for today.
