Choosing Happiness

Only by fulfilling the function given you by God will you be happy. That is because your function is to be happy by using the means by which happiness becomes inevitable. There is no other way. Therefore, every time you choose whether or not to fulfill your function, you are really choosing whether or not to be happy.

Today, then, let us practice with these thoughts:
Let me not forget my function.
Let me not try to substitute mine for God’s.

We all have the means to be happy right now. We choose happiness by choosing to let go of believing that we are separate from God’s Love. We have convinced ourselves that we are a separate identity, housed in a body and separate from all other identities. This is a self deception, a lie. Yet belief in it makes a world of separate bodies seem very real.

Fortunately we have the Voice for God in our minds, available to us in every instant. We choose to accept our function when we choose to let go of our own interpretations and let Holy Spirit replace them with His vision. The Holy Spirit, our true Self, sees past appearances to the only thing that is real — Love.

As we accept His vision we choose happiness, for happiness is an attribute of Love. Because Love is changeless and eternal, this happiness is eternal. Changing appearances have no effect on the happiness that we experience when we accept the Love we are.

Today’s practice is to choose the Holy Spirit’s guidance moment by moment.

Make Way for Holy Spirit’s Peace

His Voice awaits your silence, for His Word can not be heard until your mind is quiet for a while, and meaningless desires have been stilled. Await His Word in quiet. There is peace within you to be called upon today, to help make ready your most holy mind to hear the Voice for its Creator speak.

He speaks from nearer than your heart to you. His Voice is closer than your hand. His Love is everything you are and that He is; the same as you, and you the same as He. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 125, W-pI.125.6.2-4;7:2-4. See also ACIM Lesson 125 Insights.)

As making way to receive Holy Spirit’s peace becomes our highest priority, we receive all the help we need. Our path is make straight with no obstacles to bar our way. We follow in the way we are guided, feeling His gentleness and Love… All this comes to us make way for Holy Spirit’s peace.

Accepting Our True Identity

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them.

This does Atonement teach, and demonstrates the Oneness of God’s Son is unassailed by his belief he knows not what he is. Today accept Atonement, not to change reality, but merely to accept the truth about yourself, and go your way rejoicing in the endless Love of God. To look lovingly is to see truly, for only Love is real. To see our brothers truly is to see only Love. Likewise, to know ourselves truly we must accept that we are only Love. It is this we accept when we accept Atonement for ourselves.

Think about what our daily experience would be like if all we see are expressions of Love. We would be filled with joy, for we would experience the glad, eternal exchange of Love. We would be at peace, for conflict would be unknown. Guilt would be inconceivable and fear would not enter our minds. We would know no lack, for we would live in God’s limitless flow of Love. All this comes as we accept Atonement for ourselves.

Welcoming Holy Spirit’s Peace of Mind

Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It must begin with your own thoughts, and then extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises.

I could see peace in this situation instead of what I now see in it.

I can replace my feelings of depression, anxiety or worry [or my thoughts about this situation, personality or event] with peace. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 34, W-pI.34.1:2-4;5:4;6:4. See also ACIM Lesson 34 Insights.)

The thought system of separation brings with it images of separation — earthquakes, wars, political turmoil, competition, guilt and fear. It is the wish for separation, the wish to have specialness, that brings these images. Though it may not seem like it, we are wholly in control of everything we experience in the world. The perception that what happens in the world is independent of our thoughts is a self-deception.

To be free of this world and experience the peace of God, we need to let go of the wish for separation. As we let go of the wish to be separate, the images of the world become less important. The practice of choosing to see peace in every situation opens the door to the awareness that the oneness of Love is our true Home. The blessings of peace begin to be recognized as more valuable than the temporary morsels specialness offers. We move from the bondage of individuality to the freedom of living in the Wholeness of Love.

In Gratitude, We Serve Holy Spirit

…the Holy Spirit waits in gentle patience, as certain of the outcome as He is sure of His Creator’s Love. He knows this mad decision was made by one as dear to His Creator as love is to itself.

Be not disturbed at all to think how He can change the role of means and end so easily in what God loves, and would have free forever. But be you rather grateful that you can be the means to serve His end. This is the only service that leads to freedom. To serve this end the body must be perceived as sinless, because the goal is sinlessness. The lack of contradiction makes the soft transition from means to end as easy as is the shift from hate to gratitude before forgiving eyes. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.VI.2:4-3:5. Holy Spirit, today I would be an instrument of Your peace… Today I accept Your forgiving vision to see the innocence in all my brothers… Today I would be your instrument, extending healing to the world… Today I would serve only Your Will… I would be still and listen… Today I would serve Your pathway of Light, which leads to freedom.

Say Yes to Love

Do we want to know God? We just need to say yes to Love.

Do we want a sense of safety and certainty that all our needs are met? Just say yes to Love.

Do we want to know and experience peace that cannot be disturbed? Say yes to Love.

Do we want joy beyond words and appreciation for our brothers that overflows from our hearts? Say yes to Love.

Do we want to know our innocence and see innocence everywhere? Say yes to Love.

Do we want to be free of stress and fear? Say yes to Love.

All that we really want comes when we say yes to Love.

You Are What Love Is

No course whose purpose is to teach you to remember what you really are could fail to emphasize that there can never be a difference in what you really are and what love is. Love’s meaning is your own, and shared by God Himself. For what you are is what He is. There is no love but His, and what He is, is everything there is. There is no limit placed upon Himself, and so are you unlimited as well. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 127, W-pI.127.4. See also ACIM Lesson 127 Insights.)

If we are not experiencing the unity and peace and joy of Love, then we are quite literally “beside” our Self. We are believing we are a substitute identity that is excluded from Love. To return to awareness of What we are, we must let go of identifying with a false substitute.

Our safety, our joy and our only true fulfillment comes with accepting and extending only Love. There is nothing else. When we let Love motivate all our doing, we serve as Love’s extension. We bless in each moment and experience Love’s blessing.

Today we open to experiencing the Love we are by letting Love inspire our thoughts and actions.
