Which Interpreter Do I Want?

Robert:
Today as we read in the Manual for Teachers of A Course in Miracles, the following stood out to me:

What the body’s eyes behold is only conflict. …Yet it is surely the mind that judges what the eyes behold. It is the mind that interprets the eyes’ messages and gives them “meaning.” …Only the mind evaluates their messages and so only the mind is responsible for all seeing. (M-8.1:6, 3:3-4, 10)

This gives us an important key to waking up from the dream. While I identify myself with the body, I will continue to receive images through the body’s eyes. The key is to choose a new interpreter. From eons of habit, I automatically choose the ego as my interpreter. Since the body was made by the ego to provide a sense of “identity” it seems to be the path of least resistance to let the ego interpret what the body sees. This is just the way the ego wants it, because it keeps me firmly entrenched in the belief in separation.

If I want to be free of the belief in separation, I need to choose another Interpreter. This Interpreter will always show me that the images are unreal and therefore have no meaning. As I let my inner Interpreter replace the ego’s interpretations, I will realize that the images are illusions and they will be recognized for the nothingness they are.

Choosing the Holy Spirit as my Interpreter requires vigilance. It means choosing to use the body for a purpose opposite to what the ego gives it. It is a radical reversal of thinking. But the benefit of this reversal is deep peace and lasting happiness. It is worth the effort. And as I strengthen this new habit, it will become easier and easier to choose the Holy Spirit’s interpretation in each moment. Conflict fades away and the recognition of oneness replaces it with happy laughter.

Mary:
I have felt the peace of God many times. But I have also experienced that it comes and goes. I am now coming to the point where I want consistency rather than vacillation. I want to do the work necessary to allow the experience where peace remains constant and does not come and go.

In our reading this morning, we came across a paragraph in the Manual for Teachers that really stood out to me as the answer to this desire.

The body’s eyes will continue to see differences. But the mind that has let itself be healed will no longer acknowledge them. There will be those who seem to be “sicker” than others, and the body’s eyes will report their changed appearances as before. But the healed mind will put them all in one category; they are unreal. This is the gift of its Teacher; the understanding that only two categories are meaningful in sorting out the messages the mind receives from what appears to be the outside world. And of these two, but one is real. Just as reality is wholly real, apart from size and shape and time and place — for differences cannot exist within it — so too are illusions without distinctions. The one answer to sickness is healing. The one answer to all illusions is truth. (M-8.6)

If I want consistent peace that does not come and go, my daily practice must be to consistently be open to receiving the truth. To receive the truth I must be willing for the Holy Spirit to show me the difference between the real and the unreal. In Reality there are no differences and It does not change. It is only my true Self Who remembers the truth that can give the constant peace that I desire. Receiving what the Holy Spirit gives is my answer to maintaining an awareness of peace that does not come and go. This is my practice today and I give thanks.

Reconnect with Peace

Mary:
When I think of the world’s history with its incessant conflicts and disasters, I am reminded of the eternal flow of peace that is always there, behind these clouds of illusionary stories.

Today I see that it is my job to connect with the eternal peace that is within me and is also within everyone. This same eternal peace connects us all. In truth we are all joined in this one Mind of peace. I help all my brothers and myself when I am willing to remember the peace of God that is within us all. Here is the eternal truth.

The fearful stories of this world are constantly changing and are really nothing and nowhere. Reconnecting with peace many times through the day reminds me of where my true service lies and where I can be truly helpful. I choose to remember the eternal peace of my true Self today and follow where It leads me.

Robert:
God goes with me wherever I go. (ACIM W-pI.41) If I truly believe that, there could be no sense of vulnerability, loss or guilt. If God goes with me wherever I go, His strength surrounds me, His Love infuses me and I am therefore innocent. There is nothing to fear, nothing to be anxious about. There is no need to plan for the future to protect myself from imagined threat.

But I won’t experience this safety and certainty while believing I am a body in a world of separate images. I’m grateful that I am given the means in my mind to change what I believe. I cannot make this change on my own, but there is a Presence in my mind that remembers what’s real and will gently guide me to look past the disturbing images.

Today I am blessed to have the opportunity to let this loving Guide lead me back to the full remembrance of my true Identity in Love, to recognize my eternal safety and my innocence. And I am blessed whenever I share this with the world. Today is a day of blessing and being blessed.

Leave Everything to Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit to Mary:
Leave everything to Me. Handover everything to Me. Decide nothing on your own. Let your inner communication with Me be strong. Let your mind be open. Let yourself be carried by My healing peace. Go with the flow in peace today. Allow yourself to be aware of your innate inner happiness. Accept and receive by focusing on the peace of God in everyone today.

Holy Spirit to Robert:
Because the ego believes it is alone and separate, it is always preparing for its defense. This is why planning for the future is a constant focus. Yield not to this temptation. It does not serve you. It only makes separation and fear seem more real to you and further defense seems justified. It is a spiral into hell.

But you have a way to free yourself from this spiral. Step back and offer all your thoughts to Me. Let Me show you what serves you truly and what is meaningless. For what does not serve you is meaningless. Your meaning lies in the Love you are. And what serves you awakens you to Love. Nothing else. With Me as your interpreter, you will always be led to the great awakening of the full remembrance that you are Home in Love.

Peace and Understanding Go Together

Mary:
In our reading of A Course in Miracles this morning, we came across one of my most favorite paragraphs in the Course. It is truly helpful to me whenever I read it.

Those who remember always that they know nothing and who have become willing to learn everything, will learn it. But whenever they trust themselves, they will not learn. They have destroyed their motivation for learning by thinking they already know. Think not you understand anything until you pass the test of perfect peace, for peace and understanding go together and never can be found alone. Each brings the other with it, for it is the law of God they be not separate. They are cause and effect, each to the other, so where one is absent the other cannot be. (T-14.XI.12)

This is a good reminder to me to remember not to trust in what I think I know, but to step back and take the time to accept the peace of the Holy Spirit. As I receive peace, everything I need to know will be given me. This is my practice today, and I give thanks.

Holy Spirit to Robert:
Your Self is eternally safe in the changeless Love of God. This safety can be reflected in this dream world you believe you are in. While you identify with the ego made image of yourself, you will not see safety. You will see danger everywhere. That is inherent in the ego thought system.

But if you align your thoughts with the Holy Spirit and turn over all your fear thoughts to the Holy Spirit for healing, you will see a world of safety. When you allow yourself to experience Holy Spirit’s peace, you may be guided to do things in the world that offer protection in form. The key is, in all your decisions, that they be made with the guidance of the Holy Spirit in peace.

When you make decisions based on fear, you only reinforce the seeming reality of separation. When you let your decisions be guided by the Holy Spirit, they will always lead you toward the experience of your safety in changeless Love. The moment by moment practice of staying in peace and letting yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit will lead you to the lawns of Heaven where form no longer matters and the eternal peace and joy of Love are your complete reality. Practice today.

Happiness — An Attitude of Non-Judgment

Holy Spirit to Robert:
Happiness is an attitude of non-judgment. Judgment is depressing because it is the denial of God’s gift to you of perfect happiness. It is the denial of your true function, which is to extend Love.

When you accept the function given you by God, happiness comes with it, for they cannot be apart. Give all your judgments to the Holy Spirit, Who knows how to judge truly. Release yourself from judgment and you are free. Accept your God-given function and be happy. Today practice giving all your judgments to the Holy Spirit and it will be a happy day indeed.

Holy Spirit to Mary:
Today practice remembering that in truth, you rest in God always. Let the fact that you rest in God return to your mind again and again today. Let the Light of your true Identity shine away all false ideas that may pass through your mind. Be open to the truth of your one Identity along with all your brothers today. Let this be a day of mind healing. This is what time is for.

Memorial Day

Holy Spirit to Robert:
You are blessed, for you were blessed in your creation. If you do not feel blessed, you are simply denying the gift that Love gives you eternally. Accept Love’s gift. It is yours because God wills that It be yours. Accept Love’s gift by giving It. As you let Love guide all your perception, you give Love’s blessing and receive It as well. Let the Love in you join with the Love in all your brothers. It is one. There are no differences in Love.

Seek to see the Love in all your brothers and disregard the images of fear and guilt the body’s eyes show you. Love and fear cannot both be true. Because God’s Will is Love, only Love can be true. It has no real opposite. Choose the truth today and illusions will fade from your sight. Choose the gift of Love today by giving It. Identify with Love today, for that is What you are.

Let this be the Memorial Day in which you remember Life not death, Love not fear. And it will be a day of peace.

Holy Spirit to Mary:
This Memorial Day let yourself remember and give honor to your Source, to universal Love. Let yourself remember and give honor to your Father in Heaven. Let your Father remind you of all the gifts waiting for you as you are willing to return to your eternal Home. Let today be a day of remembering Where you really came from. Let today be a day of remembering the eternal peace, Love and joy that is yours to return to right now.

Let this Memorial Day be memorable as you allow God to return to your mind. Let this be a day of being willing to let go of foolish fantasies of separation. Hand them all over to the Holy Spirit Who will return your gift to Him with gifts of eternal peace, eternal joy, eternal Love. Let this Memorial Day be a day to remember and give honor to your Self.

The Holy Place of Eternal Quiet

Mary:
This morning we read a very wonderful section in Chapter 29 of the Text of A Course in Miracles called, “The Changeless Dwelling Place.” Basically it was reminding me that within me there is a resting place of peace where Heaven is remembered. It encouraged me to find that resting place in me by seeing that eternal place of peace in every brother. As I see the peace of God in my brother, I see that my Identity is there along with him.

In this section, Jesus also reminds us that this is how we experience the happy dream. “The quiet that surrounds you dwells in him, and from this quiet come the happy dreams in which your hands are joined in innocence.” (T-29.V.5:4)

This is my practice for today: To focus on that holy place of eternal quiet in everyone I think of or meet today. By focusing on seeing it my brother, I find that changeless dwelling place in myself. This is how I awaken from dreams of separation. This is my practice today, and I give thanks.

Robert:
This section reminds me that I can never be without Heaven, without the peace of God, without Love. When I see lack of Love of any kind, I am seeing a false image that blinds me to the truth but could never be true. I’m grateful for the reminder that I can never really lose my unity in Love.

Today my focus is to let the Holy Spirit show me the changeless truth beyond all images; to show me the Love that is everywhere. As I allow myself to accept Holy Spirit’s vision, I recognize my Self in all my brothers as well as in me. Everyone becomes a mirror of the truth in me, a reflection of God’s Love.
