Letting Go of Ego Plans

Robert:  The ego is inherently insecure because it is the idea of being separate from changelessness. With changeability comes insecurity. To compensate, the ego constantly makes plans in an attempt to control the future and be “safe.” Yet attempting to make order out of illusions is futile. What is inherently unstable at its foundation cannot be made stable by making an illusion of a stable veneer. That’s the best the ego can do.

It is interesting to observe how much of my time I spend in futile attempts to plan for the future. Time seems so real. The ego tells me that if I don’t plan I will be lost. But there is an alternative way to plan. In the section of A Course in Miracles where it says a healed mind does not plan, it also says that a healed mind seeks out the Holy Spirit’s plan and follows His plan.

The Holy Spirit recognizes that we do believe in time and He has a plan that uses time to lead us out of our belief in it. It is a plan of awakening. For me to walk through the dream in peace, I need only let go of my own plans and turn them over to the Holy Spirit. I need only open my mind to Holy Spirit’s plan in each moment. This is the choice for peace. This is the choice for awakening. This is the choice for freedom from guilt. This is all I really want.

Today I will practice vigilance in each moment, that I keep my mind open to Holy Spirit’s plan. He will guide me in all my doing and the doing will be joyful because its purpose is to lead me Home to Heaven.

Mary:  I’m seeing now that waking up to the truth involves staying in the present moment, choosing peace in the present moment. When I make the choice for peace, I am making the choice to open to Holy Spirit’s lead. In this place of peace, I am reminded that nothing matters but my Source. Nothing matters but my return to God. In this moment, I am like the prodigal son choosing to return Home to my Father. When I am in this place of peace, the diversions of the world do not divert me. I do not see these diversions as important or meaningful.

When I consistently practice choosing peace, my values change because they are being led by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit’s intent is to lead me to the awareness of Where I am in Eternity. In Eternity, the values found in the world of separation are nothing. They are meaningless and are let go of easily. I am brought to the awareness that my job is to extend Love right now in this now moment. That’s all that matters. Right now, just extend Love. Right now, just extend peace. That’s what’s important.

As I allow my values to be changed by the Holy Spirit, this practice becomes easier and more consistent with each passing day. The sense of past and future gently falls away and only the present moment is important because it is another opportunity to extend Love. This is my practice today and every day.
