The Calling of Our True Self

The lilies [holiness] that your brother offers you are laid upon your altar, with the ones you offer him beside them. ²Who could fear to look upon such lovely holiness? ³The great illusion of the fear of God diminishes to nothingness before the purity that you will look on here. ⁴Be not afraid to look. ⁵The blessedness you will behold will take away all thought of form, and leave instead the perfect gift forever there, forever to increase, forever yours, forever given away.

Now are we one in thought, for fear has gone. ²And here, before the altar to one God, one Father, one Creator and one Thought, we stand together as one Son of God. ³Not separate from Him Who is our Source; not distant from one brother who is part of our one Self Whose innocence has joined us all as one, we stand in blessedness, and give as we receive. ⁴The Name of God is on our lips. ⁵And as we look within, we see the purity of Heaven shine in our reflection of our Father’s Love.

Now are we blessed, and now we bless the world. ²What we have looked upon we would extend, for we would see [Love] everywhere. (A Course in Miracles, W-187.9:1–11:2. See also ACIM Lesson 187 Insights.)

We are called to be true to our Self. This Self was created by Love as Its extension. It is one now and forever. This is What we have always been. But we have dreamed of a different life in which there is no connection between the images we see. Everything is separate. It is a dream of loneliness, fear and guilt.

This dream has no effect on the Self we are. It is time to awaken to our true Self and know that we are Love. We have been given the Holy Spirit to help us see past the dream and remember the Love we are. We choose Love to be our Guide today, for we would bring blessing to the world. And with this Thought, we know that we are blessed.

Learning That Peace Is Ours

You are your brother’s savior. ²He is yours. ³Reason speaks happily indeed of this. ⁴This gracious plan was given love by Love. ⁵And what Love plans is like Itself in this: Being united, It would have you learn what you must be. ⁶And being one with [Love], it must be given you to give what It has given, and gives still. ⁷Spend but an instant in the glad acceptance of what is given you to give your brother, and learn with him what has been given both of you. ⁸To give is no more blessed than to receive. ⁹But neither is it less.

The Son of God is always blessed as one. ²And as his gratitude goes out to you who blessed him, reason will tell you that it cannot be you stand apart from blessing. ³The gratitude he offers you reminds you of the thanks your Father gives you for completing Him. ⁴And here alone does reason tell you that you can understand what you must be. ⁵Your Father is as close to you as is your brother. ⁶Yet what is there that could be nearer you than is your Self? We bless our brothers by recognizing we are one and the same Love. This recognition must apply to both ourself and our brother. The Holy Spirit’s singular teaching is that we are one in Love and nothing else. The ego cannot show us this reality. Its voice speaks only of Love’s denial.

The Holy Spirit’s Voice speaks only of Love. As we accept Its lessons, we learn to see past the conflicts in the world to the unity of Love that keeps us eternally united with our Creator. Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s lessons. With His help, we will teach peace and learn that it is ours.

Letting Our Misperceptions Be Healed

²Truth has no meaning in illusion. ³The frame of reference for its meaning must be itself. ⁴When you try to bring truth to illusions, you are trying to make illusions real, and keep them by justifying your belief in them. ⁵But to give illusions to truth is to enable truth to teach that the illusions are unreal, and thus enable you to escape from them. ⁶Reserve not one idea aside from truth, or you establish orders of reality that must imprison you. ⁷There is no order in reality, because everything there is true.

Be willing, then, to give all you have held outside the truth to Him Who knows the truth, and in Whom all is brought to truth. ²Salvation from separation would be complete, or will not be at all. ³Be not concerned with anything except your willingness to have this be accomplished. ⁴He will accomplish it; not you. ⁵But forget not this: When you become disturbed and lose your peace of mind because another is attempting to solve his problems through fantasy, you are refusing to forgive yourself for just this same attempt. ⁶And you are holding both of you away from truth and from salvation. ⁷As you forgive him, you restore to truth what was denied by both of you. ⁸And you will see forgiveness where you have given it. In any moment that our peace is disturbed, it means we are believing an illusion is real. The ego wants us to believe that the disturbance is caused by something real and outside of us. But we are really seeing what we believe about ourselves projected on an “outside” world.

When we believe we are separate, we see an outside world, separate from us, filled with images of separation. This is why the ego’s world is filled with fear and guilt. It sees itself reflected everywhere, although the external forms seem completely out of our control.

As we are willing to give our perceptions to the Holy Spirit in our mind, He will help us recognize their unreality. Our function is only to hand our perceptions to Him and be willing to let them go. The Holy Spirit will do the rest in bringing healing to our troubled mind. As we accept His help, we can be at peace in the appearance of turmoil. We can offer Love in answer to calls for Love. Each time we accept His help, the Light of Love within shines more brightly in our mind.

Today we practice accepting the Holy Spirit’s help.

Awakening to Our Home in Love

All things are given you. ²God’s trust in you is limitless. ³He knows His Son. ⁴He gives without exception, holding nothing back that can contribute to your happiness. ⁵And yet, unless your will is one with His, His gifts are not received. ⁶But what would make you think there is another will than His?

Here is the paradox that underlies the making of the world. ²This world is not the Will of God, and so it is not real.

Yet in his lonely, senseless wanderings, God’s gifts go with him, all unknown to him. ²He cannot lose them. ³But he will not look at what is given him. ⁴He wanders on, aware of the futility he sees about him everywhere, perceiving how his little lot but dwindles, as he goes ahead to nowhere. ⁵Still he wanders on in misery and poverty, alone though God is with him, and a treasure his so great that everything the world contains is valueless before its magnitude.

One walks with you Who gently answers all your fears with this one merciful reply, “It is not so.” ⁴He points to all the gifts you have each time the thought of poverty oppresses you, and speaks of His Companionship when you perceive yourself as lonely and afraid.

We have a mighty Companion Whose purpose is to show us the way to peace and joy; to show us the reality of our true Self, eternally one with God. As His Son, our Home is in Him. Everything He is, we are in truth. We are Love’s oneness. We are in eternal peace. We share God’s joy in the eternal extension of Love.

The body’s senses cannot fathom our true Reality because the body itself is not real. Everything we perceive through the body’s senses is therefore not real. Only our belief gives it a semblance of reality.

Our mighty Companion is with us to help us recognize the unreality of the images in the world. With His help, we see the Light of Love beyond the images of fear and hate. We see the all encompassing oneness in place of loneliness. Today w

Being Thankful for God’s Love

A day devoted now to gratitude will add the benefit of some insight into the real extent of all the gains which you have made; the gifts you have received. ²Be glad today, in loving thankfulness, your Father has not left you to yourself, nor let you wander in the dark alone. ³Be grateful He has saved you from the self you thought you made to take the place of Him and His creation. ⁴Give Him thanks today.

Give thanks that He has not abandoned you, and that His Love forever will remain shining on you, forever without change. ²Give thanks as well that you are changeless, for the Son He loves is changeless as Himself. ³Be grateful you are saved. ⁴Be glad you have a function in salvation to fulfill.

³Today we smile on everyone we see, and walk with lightened footsteps as we go to do what is appointed us to do.

Receive His thanks, and you will understand how lovingly He holds you in His Mind, how deep and limitless His care for you, how perfect is His gratitude to you. ²Remember hourly to think of Him, and give Him thanks for everything He gave His Son, that he might rise above the world, remembering his Father and his Self. Gratitude is a thought of welcome. It invites more of what we are grateful for by opening our mind to receive.

The ego is not grateful for God’s Love. It denies His Love because God’s Love is one. It has no room for differences. Our choice to accept the ego wish for specialness and differences has hidden God’s Love from our awareness.

But our gratitude for His gift of all His Love opens our mind to welcome the reality of our unity with Him. We are grateful that He has given us the means in our mind to heal our fear based thoughts that seem to separate us from His Love. Awareness of His Love is magnified with each thought of gratitude.

Being a Healing Answer in the World

⁶You who have taught yourself the Son of God is guilty, say not that you cannot learn the simple things salvation teaches you!

The lessons to be learned are only two. ²Each has its outcome in a different world. ³And each world follows surely from its source. ⁴The certain outcome of the lesson that God’s Son is guilty is the world you see. ⁵It is a world of terror and despair. ⁶Nor is there hope of happiness in it. ⁷There is no plan for safety you can make that ever will succeed. ⁸There is no joy that you can seek for here and hope to find. ⁹Yet this is not the only outcome which your learning can produce. ¹⁰However much you may have overlearned your chosen task, the lesson that reflects the Love of God is stronger still. ¹¹And you will learn God’s Son is innocent, and see another world.

The outcome of the lesson that God’s Son is guiltless is a world in which there is no fear, and everything is lit with hope and sparkles with a gentle friendliness. ²Nothing but calls to you in soft appeal to be your friend, and let it join with you.… ⁶You had been deceived by forms the call [for Love] was hidden in. ⁷And so you did not hear it, and had lost a friend who always wanted to be part of you. ⁸The soft eternal calling of each part of God’s creation to the whole is heard throughout the world this second lesson brings. All the turmoil we see today represents calls for Love. If we judge them, we mistake the calls for Love as justification for fear, hate and guilt. These judgments are our own calls for Love, for Love would not judge. Love always answers calls for Love with Love.

This response is our calling in the world. To answer calls for Love with Love, we must let go of our judgments. Forgiveness is the key to peace.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us recognize calls for Love. We choose to join with Him in Love to be the answer that brings healing to the world. Thus will we fulfill our true function in the world.

Becoming a Blessing to the World

Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world.

²It is through accepting my function that I will see the light in me. ³And in this light will my function stand clear and perfectly unambiguous before my sight. ⁴My acceptance does not depend on my recognizing what my function is, for I do not yet understand forgiveness. ⁵Yet I will trust that, in the light, I will see it as it is.

Specific forms for using this idea might include:

²Let this help me learn what forgiveness means.
³Let me not separate my function from my will.
⁴I will not use this for an alien purpose. (A Course in Miracles, W-81.3–4. See also ACIM Lesson 81 Insights.)

True forgiveness recognizes that nothing has happened to change God’s Son, our true Self. Nothing we see in the world can teach us forgiveness at this level. We need the help of our inner Teacher to help us see past the images of the world. God did not create images. His Creation is all of His Love extended forever.

Our judgments hide the presence of Love from our awareness. We ask the Holy Spirit to help us let go of the judgments that hide Love’s presence from our awareness. As we are willing to step back from our judgments, we make way for the Light of Love to show us Love’s presence beyond appearances. With this vision, we bring Light to the world. We extend God’s Love without interference. We become a blessing to the world.
