Living in the World with Holy Spirit’s Lead

I place the future in the Hands of God.

You are but asked to let the future go, and place it in God’s Hands. And you will see by your experience that you have laid the past and present in His Hands as well, because the past will punish you no more, and future dread will now be meaningless.

As [today’s idea] becomes a thought that rules your mind, a habit in your problem-solving repertoire, a way of quick reaction to temptation, you extend your learning to the world. And as you learn to see salvation in all things, so will the world perceive that it is saved.

What worry can beset the one who gives his future to the lov­ing Hands of God? What can he suffer? What can cause him pain, or bring experience of loss to him? What can he fear? And what can he regard except with love? For he who has escaped all fear of future pain has found his way to present peace, and certainty of care the world can never threaten. He is sure that his perception may be faulty, but will never lack correction. He is free to choose again when he has been deceived; to change his mind when he has made mistakes.

Most of us put a lot of thought and time into making plans. Some of us make lists and we rely on established habits to carry us through our days. This seems necessary for our survival. How could we cover our expenses, have food to eat or a roof over our head without having some kind of plan? It is important to consider the guide we choose in making these plans.

The ego makes plans based upon the past. Its thoughts about the future are always constructed from memories of the past. The ego’s plans skip over the present, avoiding the memory of ever present Love. This insures that the future will be like the past with all its fears and guilt.

But if we place the future in the hands of God, the future is a continuation of the eternal Love in the present instant. In God’s hands, we are guaranteed perfect safety, joy and peace of mind—all our needs are met. As we let the Holy Spirit guide our plans, God’s Love is reflected in our experience in the dream. We are guided in what to think, say and do.

Our relationships reflect our unity in Love. Our doing is done with kindness, compassion and helpfulness. Our thoughts reflect our perception of the Love in our brothers. Our words are given us by the Holy Spirit to bring understanding and healing to our brothers and ourselves. Our lists are inspired by Him. Every moment reinforces our awareness of the Love we are by teaching us to overlook our mistaken beliefs and see the presence of Love.

How to Choose the Joy of God

I feel the Love of God within me now.

The Love of God is what created me. The Love of God is everything I am. The Love of God proclaimed me as His Son. The Love of God within me sets me free.

I choose the joy of God instead of pain.

Pain is my own idea. It is not a Thought of God, but one I thought apart from Him and from His Will. His Will is joy, and only joy for His beloved Son. And that I choose, in­stead of what I made.

I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.

If I am still as God created me and I am not a body, then God must not have created the body. This is the key to releasing ourselves from the experience of pain, loss and limitation. God created us as Love, eternally united with Himself. Only Love is real. What is not Love does not exist.

As long as we believe we are a body, we cannot know the Love of God. Occasionally we may have glimpses of Love so profound and brilliant in Its Light that It is indescribable. Yet this experience cannot be long maintained while we still hold the idea that we are a body. But we can free ourselves from this self-imposed limitation.

Forgiveness is the key to freedom from the body’s limitation. If we are willing to let the Holy Spirit’s dream of forgiveness heal our mistaken beliefs, we will become increasingly aware of the Love we are. We will feel the comfort of God’s Love. God’s joy will fill our mind as His Love shines away fear’s darkness. We choose the joy of God today by choosing Holy Spirit as our Guide through the day.

Journey Home to Love

I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt.

Loss is not loss when properly perceived. Pain is impossible. There is no grief with any cause at all. And suffering of any kind is nothing but a dream. This is the truth, at first to be but said and then repeated many times; and next to be accepted as but partly true, with many reservations. Then to be considered seri­ously more and more, and finally accepted as the truth. I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt. And I would go beyond these words today, and past all reservations, and arrive at full acceptance of the truth in them.

Father, what You have given cannot hurt, so grief and pain must be impossible. Let me not fail to trust in You today, accepting but the joyous as Your gifts; accepting but the joyous as the truth. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 284, W-pII.284. See also ACIM Lesson 284 Insights.)

The ego does not trust God at all. In fact, it is suspicious that God is prepared to attack it at any moment. Because of this, the ego is constantly defending against the fact that God created His Son one with Him.

Acceptance of this fact would dispel the ego into the nothingness from which it came. The ego is not real, never was nor ever can be. The best it can do is dream of a world that makes the ego, the belief in separation, seem real. This dream is maintained only by our belief in it. This is the key to our release from the dream and return to our safety in the eternal presence of Love.

Beliefs can be changed. When beliefs are changed, their consequences are changed. Our safety in the Heaven of Love is a fact that does not change because only Love is real. We need only accept this one fact. But our belief in the dream denies Reality. The effect of beliefs that deny Reality is the dream of the world in which it seems possible to be hurt.

We start the journey out of this world of hurt built on false beliefs by first acknowledging that there must be a better way. As we practice letting the Holy Spirit show us the constancy of Love beyond the projections of our mistaken beliefs, our beliefs begin to change. More and more we question these beliefs that make a world in which we feel vulnerable, alone and lacking Love.

With practice, the presence of Love is increasingly acknowledged and accepted. Our experience in the world is more peaceful and happy. The certainty of the Love in which we have our being strengthens. When we no longer reserve one belief that denies Love, we awaken to our Self, the Son of God at Home in Heaven.

Forgiveness Brings Happiness and Peace

The happy dreams the Holy Spirit brings are different from the dreaming of the world, where one can merely dream he is awake. The dreams forgiveness lets the mind perceive do not induce another form of sleep, so that the dreamer dreams another dream. His happy dreams are heralds of the dawn of truth upon the mind. They lead from sleep to gentle waking, so that dreams are gone. And thus they cure for all eternity.

Atonement heals with certainty, and cures all sickness. For the mind which understands that sickness can be nothing but a dream is not deceived by forms the dream may take. Sickness where guilt is absent cannot come, for [sickness] is but another form of guilt. Atonement does not heal the sick, for that is not a cure. It takes away the guilt that makes the sickness possible. And that is cure indeed. For sickness now is gone, with nothing left to which it can return.

Forgiveness is the dominant theme in A Course in Miracles. This is because guilt is the core problem in the world. Without belief in guilt there would be no sickness, sadness, anger or fear. Guilt is the glue that binds the world of separation to our perception.

The practice of accepting Holy Spirit’s help to forgive our guilty beliefs leads to the undoing of guilt. We have accepted the Atonement when we have undone all guilt in our mind through forgiveness. We awaken from the dream of guilt into the Light of Love.

Had we not convinced ourselves that we are a separate identity in a world of separation, there would be no need for forgiveness. Without forgiveness we would have permanently imprisoned ourselves in a dream world of guilt and fear.

The Holy Spirit offers an alternate dream of release from this world through forgiveness. We access the Holy Spirit’s forgiving dream by questioning the meaning of all our perceptions. With this open mind, we ask the Holy Spirit for His true perception. His dream of forgiveness dismisses the false as meaningless and brings to light the only real meaning—the presence of Love. Each time we accept His reinterpretation, we welcome peace and happiness into our mind. This is our practice for today.

Recognizing the Love We Are

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them.

This does Atonement teach, and demonstrates the Oneness of God’s Son is unassailed by his belief he knows not what he is. Today accept Atonement, not to change reality, but merely to accept the truth about yourself, and go your way rejoicing in the endless Love of God. It is but this that we are asked to do. It is but this that we will do today.

Atonement is simply a recognition and acceptance of the truth of What we are. We are Love, created by Love. Nothing else. The acceptance of that truth dispels all appearances of separation, conflict, loss and death. It recognizes that our eternal Home rests in the Heaven of God’s Love. God omits no one from His Heaven, nor does our true Self.

We accept Atonement by forgiving our mistaken beliefs that deny the reality of Love. Having denied Love, we must now deny this denial to welcome Love into our mind. This welcome recognizes our holiness as God’s Son. In this recognition we see every brother as one with us. We welcome the Love he is and join with It in peace. Conflict is dispelled in Love’s oneness. This is our mission.

Today we welcome Love as our Guide, for we would recognize our eternal Home in Heaven.

The Choice to Be Truly Happy

I share God’s Will for happiness for me.

You do not want to suffer. You may think it buys you some­thing, and may still believe a little that it buys you what you want.

Be you free today to join the happy Will of God.

Here is your home, and here your safety is. Here is your peace, and here there is no fear. Here is salvation. Here is rest at last.

Begin …with this acceptance of God’s Will for you:

I share God’s Will for happiness for me, and I accept it as my function now.

Be happy, for your only function here is happiness. …pause frequently today, to tell yourself that you have now accepted happiness as your one function. We have a simple test to determine whether we are accepting God’s Will. We need only ask, “Am I happy?” Our true Self dwells in the joy of God. Anything less than perfect happiness is a sure sign that we are denying His Will.

Unhappiness and pain are a choice. Though in this world, these conditions seem to be imposed on us. The choice we make to accept the ego’s substitute as our identity instead of the Son of God inevitably leads to unhappiness, pain, guilt and fear. We need to forgive ourselves for choosing specialness instead of the all inclusiveness of Love. It is a denial of God’s Will.

As we remind ourselves that we want God’s Will because we want to be happy and at peace, our experience in the world changes. More and more we see the Love beyond the appearances of separation in the world. When we accept His Will, we respond to the world with Love. Kindness becomes a way of being. Appearances of loss and lack are recognized as calls for Love for these conditions simply demonstrate the need for Love. Love heals fear and guilt, for It sees that there is nothing to fear. Only Love is real.

When we accept God’s Will for us, we accept the Love we are and recognize Love’s presence everywhere and in everyone. We choose God’s Will today. It is a choice to be truly happy.

Being Faithful to God’s Love

Creation’s freedom promises my own.

The end of dreams is promised me, because God’s Son is not abandoned by His Love. Only in dreams is there a time when he appears to be in prison, and awaits a future freedom, if it be at all. Yet in reality his dreams are gone, with truth established in their place. And now is freedom his already. Should I wait in chains which have been severed for release, when God is offering me freedom now?

I will accept Your promises today, and give my faith to them. My Father loves the Son Whom He created as His Own. Would You with­hold the gifts You gave to me? (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 279, W-pII.279. See also ACIM Lesson 279 Insights.)

Our misplaced faith in the ego leads us to believe its fantasy of a world where everything is limited, Love’s oneness is denied and fear, guilt, defense and attack are justified. This fantasy could never be real because it denies the reality of Love. But our faith in the fantasy imprisons us in a world of shadows. But we are not lost forever in this fantasy.

Our true Self remains unaffected by this fantasy. The memory of our Reality remains in our mind, calling to the part of our mind wrapped up in the fantasy. It is the source of our yearning for Love. The ego defends against this yearning by sending us on wild goose chases to preventing us from finding the Love we yearn for. It is always present to be found, but not in the ego’s dream. The Holy Spirit is our unbreakable link that leads us to return to the Love in which we were created and in which we remain.

We need to switch our faith from the ego to God. As we give our faith to His Voice, we will learn to correct our misperceptions and free ourselves from the mistaken belief in limitation and lack of Love. God has promised that His Son remain eternally within His Love. We choose Love as our Guide today, for we would be free to be the limitless Love we were created to be.
