We Give This Day to Love

This day is God’s. It is my gift to Him.

I will not lead my life alone today. I do not understand the world, and so to try to lead my life alone must be but foolishness. But there is One Who knows all that is best for me. And He is glad to make no choices for me but the ones that lead to God. I give this day to Him, for I would not delay my coming home, and it is He Who knows the way to God.

And so we give today to You. We come with wholly open minds. We do not ask for anything that we may think we want. Give us what You would have received by us. You know all our desires and our wants. And You will give us everything we need in helping us to find the way to You. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 242, W-pII.242. See also ACIM Lesson 242 Insights.)

As long as we follow the ego’s lead, we have closed part of our mind against the truth. This separation is the ego’s mandate to maintain the separation that is essential to the ego’s seeming existence. The Course is dedicated to help us open that split-off part of our mind to consider the possibility that it is not real.

The split mind cannot know the truth; it sees itself alone and disconnected from everything. The ego is dispelled the moment the truth of our Self is accepted as one in Love with every brother and God.

We have been given the Holy Spirit, our inner Teacher, to gently and lovingly help us let go of our fearful beliefs and open our mind to welcome Love. His curriculum is customized to our individual need. We each have our unique set of memories from the past that we use to judge the present, blinding us to the presence of Love now. The Holy Spirit helps us forgive these memories by showing us they have had no effect on our true Self, which remains as God created It.

We give this day to God. His response is gratitude for our willingness to welcome His Love.

How to Have a Day of Blessings

Illusion recognized must disappear. Accept not suffering, and you remove the thought of suffering. …The thought of sacrifice gives rise to all the forms that suffer­ing appears to take. And sacrifice is an idea so mad that sanity dismisses it at once.

Never believe that you can sacrifice [lose by giving]. There is no place for sac­rifice [loss] in what has any value. If the thought [of sacrifice] occurs, its very pres­ence proves that error has arisen and correction must be made. Your blessing [forgiveness] will correct [the error]. Given first to you, it now is yours to give as well. No form of sacrifice and suffering can long endure before the face of one who has forgiven and has blessed himself. The ego insists that form has value and possessing a form makes it ours alone. But we are learning that form is an illusion, for only the oneness of Love is real. Love cannot be divided into multiple parts. This is the key to distinguishing between illusions and the truth that Love is all That is.

When we forgive a perception of separation, we make way for Love to bless the world through forgiveness. How we perceive our brother tells us what we believe about ourselves. If he is a body separate from ours, we must first believe we are a body. This belief needs to be let go, for it blocks our awareness of our true Self, the extension of God’s Love. This belief seems to make bodies valuable. But belief does not make real or true value, though it seems to affirm separation’s reality.

To truly bless our brother, we need to let the Holy Spirit show us the Love our brother is behind the mask of physical appearance. This is the blessing we give our brother. And because our brother is reflecting back to us what we believe about ourselves, we receive the blessing as we bless our brother. We have forgiven ourself.

Today we welcome opportunities to let the Holy Spirit show us the truth in our brothers. It will be a day of many blessings.

Accepting Our Holy Purpose

The beautiful relationship you have with all your brothers is a part of you because it is a part of God Himself.

Either there is a gap between you and your brother, or you are as one. There is no in between, no other choice, and no allegiance to be split between the two. …[the body] can be seen as not your home, but merely as an aid to help you reach the home where God abides.

With this as purpose is the body healed. It is not used to witness to the dream of separation and disease. Nor is it idly blamed for what it did not do. It serves to help the healing of God’s Son, and for this purpose it cannot be sick. It will not join a purpose not your own, and you have chosen that it not be sick. All miracles are based upon this choice, and given you the instant it is made. No forms of sickness are immune, because the choice cannot be made in terms of form. The choice of sickness seems to be of form, yet it is one, as is its opposite. And you are sick or well, accordingly.

…the body can be seen as what it is, and neither less nor more in worth than the extent to which it can be used to liberate God’s Son unto his home. And with this holy purpose is it made a home of holiness a little while, because it shares your Father’s Will with you. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.VII.2:1;3:1-2,6;4;7:7-8. An early ACIM Workbook lesson teaches that we do not know what anything is for. To the ego, everything is for justifying belief that separation is real. It is a hoax on such a grand scale that it has made a world that pictures separation so vividly that we really do seem to be separate individuals imprisoned in a body for a life that ends in death. It is not true and never can be true. Only our belief in in this ego dream binds us to it.

We can awaken from the dream. A child having a nightmare needs a kind and loving parent to awaken him from the dream and show him he is safe at home. Likewise the Voice for our Father is ever present in our mind to lovingly awaken us from the ego’s dream. The Holy Spirit gives the body a different purpose, using it as a teaching aid. Gently and patiently He guides us to recognize that the body and this world are not our Home. He brings the Light of Love into our mind in a way that does not frighten us, but instead attracts us to the peace and joy Love offers.

Each time we learn one of His lessons, we experience increased peace and happiness. The body is used for the Holy Spirit’s holy purpose to lead us Home to the Love that is our Life in God. Today we welcome His lessons.

Remembering the Holiness We Share with God

The Word of God is given me to speak.

What is the Word of God? “My Son is pure and holy as Myself.” And thus did God become the Father of the Son He loves, for thus was he created. This the Word His Son did not create with Him, because in this His Son was born. Let us accept His Fatherhood, and all is given us. Deny we were created in His Love and we deny our Self, to be unsure of Who we are, of Who our Father is, and for what purpose we have come. And yet, we need but to acknowledge Him Who gave His Word to us in our creation, to remember Him and so recall our Self.

Father, Your Word is mine. And it is this that I would speak to all my brothers, who are given me to cherish as my own, as I am loved and blessed and saved by You. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 276, W-pII.276. See also ACIM Lesson 276 Insights.)

Our true Self is as holy as God because It is eternally united within His Love. Our true Self sees every brother as holy as God. Here we are called upon to remind ourselves mentally as we think of every brother, “You are holy, as holy as my Self and united in God’s oneness.”

This is how we are called to think of everyone, whether we think of them as friend or foe, for the truth in us can never be separate. This thought is a reminder of Who we are. It passes by the dream’s images of separation. It focuses our attention on the truth instead of mistakenly believing in images of separation. Seeing our brothers and our Self as holy as God heals our mind of the thought of separation. It accepts that our will is one with God’s.

Today we will practice reminding ourselves that we are holy along with every brother because we were created by the Source of holiness.

Unlocking Our Self-Made Prison

How can illusions satisfy God’s Son?

Father, the truth belongs to me. My home is set in Heaven by Your Will and mine. Can dreams content me? Can illusions bring me happiness? What but Your memory can satisfy Your Son? I will accept no less than You have given me. I am surrounded by Your Love, forever still, forever gentle and forever safe. God’s Son must be as You created him.

Today we pass illusions by. And if we hear temptation call to us to stay and linger in a dream, we turn aside and ask ourselves if we, the Sons of God, could be content with dreams, when Heaven can be chosen just as easily as hell, and love will happily replace all fear. The fact that we experience ourselves as a body functioning in the world demonstrates that we have chosen dreams in place of the truth. Fortunately dreams are only illusions and do not change Reality. The Son of God, Who is our true Self, remains at Home in Heaven. We have chosen dreams of fear and guilt where division is the rule that governs the world we see.

True happiness is impossible in this world because it denies the Source of happiness. This choice for denial can be reversed. The body is not our identity. It does not imprison us in the world. We have the key to unlock the prison door.

We can choose to choose again. We can accept God’s gift of Heaven that is ours now and forever. We can choose to overlook the false images that seem to make separation real. We do this with the Holy Spirit’s help. We need to let Him show us the oneness of Love that unites us with every brother. With His help, Love becomes our guide and we look past illusions to see Love everywhere.

Today we choose to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead. He knows the way to Heaven and the joy and peace that is our birthright. The Holy Spirit is the key that unlocks the self-made prison door. The door swings open and we walk freely into the Heaven of God’s Love. We choose to follow the way to Heaven today.

Letting Christ’s Vision Be Our Guide

Christ’s is the vision I will use today.

Each day, each hour, every instant, I am choosing what I want to look upon, the sounds I want to hear, the witnesses to what I want to be the truth for me. Today I choose to look upon what Christ would have me see, to listen to God’s Voice, and seek the Witnesses to what is true in God’s creation. In Christ’s sight, the world and God’s creation meet, and as they come together all perception disappears. His kindly sight redeems the world from death, for nothing that He looks on but must live, remembering the Father and the Son; Creator and creation unified.

Father, Christ’s vision is the way to You. What He beholds invites Your memory to be restored to me. And this I choose, to be what I would look upon today. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 271, W-pII.271. See also ACIM Lesson 271 Insights.)

It doesn’t seem that we choose to see danger, sickness, attack, fear and guilt in the world. No one in their right mind would knowingly choose this. But the ego has cleverly hidden this insane choice with an image we have come to believe is what we are—the body.

The body is an ego construct stemming from the ego’s dedication to separation from God. It is a substitute for the Self God created one with Himself. When we choose the body as our identity, the world we experience of pain, guilt and fear comes with that choice. The body was made to see only “proof” that separation is real. It was made specifically to make us unconscious to the presence of Spirit and Love’s oneness.

As long as we identify with the body, we block Christ’s vision which would show us the presence of Love everywhere. Christ’s vision does not see bodies nor forms. It sees only the Love It is reflected back to It. To make way for Christ’s vision to enter our conscious mind, we must be willing to question all our perceptions.

When we bring our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with an open mind, He offers us Christ’s vision. With this vision, the forms of the world are recognized as meaningless and ineffectual. Beyond them His vision shows us the Reality of Love. Each time we accept Christ’s vision, our peace of mind grows stronger. We are more joyous, for we are experiencing the presence of Love that never left us. Today we choose Christ’s vision as our Guide, for we want the joy of Heaven.

The Solution to All Problems

The problem of separation, which is really the only problem, has already been solved.

The temptation to regard problems as many is the temptation to keep the problem of separation unsolved.

If you could recognize that your only problem is separation, no matter what form it takes, you could accept the answer because you would see its relevance. Perceiving the underlying constancy in all the problems that seem to confront you, you would understand that you have the means to solve them all. And you would use the means, because you recognize the problem.

We will try to free our minds of all the many different kinds of problems we think we have. We will try to realize that we have only one problem, which we have failed to recognize. We will ask what it is, and wait for the answer. We will be told. Then we will ask for the solution to it. And we will be told. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 79, W-pI.79.1:4;4:1;6:2-4;7:3-8. When the thought that separation from our Source was accepted as real, our mind was split into two parts. The mind that was created one with the Mind of Love remained unchanged because only Love is real. The thought of separation could only seem to be real in a split off part of the mind that dreams of a world where Love’s oneness is denied.

The split replicates in the dream in myriad forms which seem unrelated to each other—different bodies, things, places, moments in time and private minds. All these forms are defenses against our unbreakable unity with Love. They stem from the singular belief that separation is real. Peace is impossible in this dream we seem to be surrounded by conflict.

We have been given the means to awaken from this dream. The Holy Spirit is in our mind 24/7, ready and willing to help us let go of our belief in separation. If we are willing to accept His help, He will use every circumstance or event to teach us to recognize the presence of Love beyond the appearance of separation. Gradually we learn that the foundation of all problems is the same. As we apply this lesson in every now moment, we awaken from the dream. This is a great day to practice.
