Letting Love Illuminate Our Mind

Today it will be given you to feel a touch of Heaven, though you will return to paths of learning. Yet you have come far enough along the way to alter time sufficiently to rise above its laws, and walk into eternity a while. This you will learn to do increasingly, as every lesson, faithfully rehearsed, brings you more swiftly to this holy place and leaves you, for a moment, to your Self.

He will direct your practicing today, for what you ask for now is what [your Self] wills. And having joined your will with His this day, what you are asking must be given you. Nothing is needed but today’s idea [Into His Presence would I enter now] to light your mind, and let it rest in still anticipation and in quiet joy, wherein you quickly leave the world behind.

From this day forth, your ministry takes on a genuine devotion, and a glow that travels from your fingertips to those you touch, and blesses those you look upon. A vision reaches every­one you meet, and everyone you think of, or who thinks of you. For your experience today will so transform your mind that it becomes the touchstone for the holy Thoughts of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 157, W-pI.157.3-5. Our true Self is eternally in us. But we have built a wall around It to hide Its Light from illuminating the darkness of the ego’s world. We enter our Self’s presence by pausing and stepping back from what we perceive in the world. It is an illusion and does not deserve our attention. We breathe and relax into the peaceful presence of our Self. Here our vision is illuminated to see the presence of Love everywhere.

The Will of our true Self is one with God’s Will. When we give attention to our Self, we are joining our will with God’s. Our mind is lit by Its Light and the ego’s illusions fade. We see that memories of the past are nothing and nowhere. We see only Love’s reality and experience Its peace and joy. We rest in the presence of the changeless Love we are.

Counting on the Loving Support of Our Creator

Steady our feet, our Father. Let our doubts be quiet and our holy minds be still, and speak to us. We have no words to give to You. We would but listen to Your Word, and make it ours. Lead our practicing as does a father lead a little child along a way he does not understand. Yet does he follow, sure that he is safe because his father leads the way for him.

So do we bring our practicing to You. And if we stumble, You will raise us up. If we forget the way, we count upon Your sure remember­ing. We wander off, but You will not forget to call us back. Quicken our footsteps now, that we may walk more certainly and quickly unto You. And we accept the Word You offer us to unify our practicing, as we review the thoughts that You have given us. We can count on our Creator to support our awakening from dreams of hate and fear. He has given us the means to let go of our mistaken beliefs and the images they project. This world is not our home. Yet we remain eternally linked to the Home that is our Source. This Link remains an open channel for the loving guidance we need to awaken from our dreams of fear. This Link calls to us to remember that Love created us like Itself.

We call upon this memory to guide us through this day to see the Love that is our brother and our Self. The strength of God Himself supports us as we practice following the way of Love. As we follow Love’s lead, we serve as a teacher of Love. We join with our brothers and feel the Love they are bless us. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for, together with our brothers, we awaken to Love.

Participating in God’s Plan for Our Awakening

I am a Son of God. And can I be another thing as well? Did God create the mortal and corruptible? What use has God’s beloved Son for what must die? And yet a neutral thing does not see death, for thoughts of fear are not invested there, nor is a mockery of love bestowed upon it. [The body’s] neutrality protects it while it has a use. And afterwards, without a purpose, it is laid aside. It is not sick nor old nor hurt. It is but functionless, unneeded and cast off. Let me not see it more than this today; of service for a while and fit to serve, to keep its usefulness while it can serve, and then to be replaced for greater good.

My body, Father, cannot be Your Son. And what is not created cannot be sinful nor sinless; neither good nor bad. Let me, then, use this dream to help Your plan that we awaken from all dreams we made. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 294, W-pII.294. See also ACIM Lesson 294 Insights.)

Our sole purpose in this dream is to participate in God’s plan for our awakening. When we accept this purpose, we use the body to serve His plan instead of ego’s, which is to preserve belief in separation.

We use the body sinlessly when we choose the Holy Spirit as our Guide for all our thoughts and actions. He always guides with Love. The eyes of Love show us the presence of Love’s innocence and wholeness everywhere.

We can only see as Love sees when we forgive the past. The ego uses the past to hide from the Love that is present in every now moment. As we let the Holy Spirit teach us that the past is nothing and nowhere, our inner vision is cleared and the dream fades into the nothingness from which it came.

Today we choose to participate in God’s plan to free our mind from mistaken beliefs and awaken to the changeless Love we are.

How to Dismiss Ego Perceptions

I am as God created me. His Son can suffer nothing.
And I am His Son.

Then, with this statement firmly in your mind, try to discover in your mind the Self Who is the holy Son of God Himself.

Seek Him within you Who is Christ in you, the Son of God and brother to the world;

Deep in your mind the holy Christ in you is waiting your acknowledgment as you. And you are lost and do not know yourself while He is unacknowledged and unknown.

Seek Him today, and find Him. He will be your Savior from all idols you have made. For when you find Him, you will under­stand how worthless are your idols, and how false the images which you believed were you. Today we make a great advance to truth by letting idols go, and opening our hands and hearts and minds to God today. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 110, W-pI.110.6:1-8:1;9:4-10-4. If we are as God created us, then we dwell in perfect peace, indescribable joy and changeless Love. But this is not what we experience while we identify with the ego and the body image it has substituted for the Self that God created. While we give credence to the ego’s dream, we do not experience our Self as God created It.

We need to let go of this mistaken belief. This is the purpose of forgiveness. It releases us from memories of the past, which the ego uses to hide the Love that is eternally present now. Without retaining the past in our mind, all is Love.

The ego’s seeming existence depends on holding on to the past. It is unwilling to forgive because forgiveness would undo the ego. This is why we must rely on the Holy Spirit. He sees our illusions but does not believe them. As our inner Teacher, His lessons teach us to recognize illusions for what they are. With His help, we see them as meaningless and dismiss them from our mind. The Light of our true Self shines through. In this Light we remember our true Self which God created one with Him.

We Are Safe at Home in Love

I will not use the body’s eyes today.

Father, Christ’s vision is Your gift to me, and it has power to translate all that the body’s eyes behold into the sight of a forgiven world. How glorious and gracious is this world! Yet how much more will I perceive in it than sight can give. The world forgiven signifies Your Son acknowledges his Father, lets his dreams be brought to truth, and waits expectantly the one remaining instant more of time which ends forever, as Your memory returns to him. And now [Your Son’s] will is one with Yours. His function now is but Your Own, and every thought except Your Own is gone.

The quiet of today will bless our hearts, and through them peace will come to everyone. Christ is our eyes today. And through His sight we offer healing to the world through Him, the holy Son whom God created whole; the holy Son whom God created one. (W-pII.270)

The world we see reflects the identity we have chosen as our own. The body’s eyes are part of the separate identity we believe we are. This “seeing” can only show us images of separation which confirm what we believe we are. The world we seem to see is a dream built upon the belief that we have lost our connection to our Source. As long as we continue to believe what the body’s eyes show us, we are unaware of our true Self, which remains forever at Home in the Mind of God.

We need to question everything the body’s eyes show us. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to help us see beyond what the body’s eyes see with the vision of Christ. Christ sees only the reality and innocence of Love or calls for Love. As we practice seeing with Christ vision, the appearances in the world have diminishing effect on our peace of mind. We learn that nothing can harm our true Identity. Loss is impossible. Fear has no foundation in Love’s Reality. We become increasingly secure in the knowledge that we are safe at Home in God’s Love.

Following Plans That Heal Our Mind

A healed mind does not plan. It carries out the plans that it receives through listening to wisdom that is not its own. It waits until it has been taught what should be done, and then proceeds to do it. It does not depend upon itself for anything except its adequacy to fulfill the plans assigned to it. [The healed mind] is secure in certainty that obstacles can not impede its progress to accomplishment of any goal that serves the greater plan established for the good of everyone.

A healed mind is relieved of the belief that it must plan, al­though it cannot know the outcome which is best, the means by which it is achieved, nor how to recognize the problem that the plan is made to solve. [The mind] must misuse the body in its plans until it recognizes this is so. But when it has accepted this as true, then is [the mind] healed, and lets the body go. To follow a leader that actively denies reality is clearly insane. That is exactly what we do when we choose the ego as our identity and follow its lead. The ego’s plans are always designed to keep us imprisoned in the belief system of limitation, lack of Love and guilt.

We have a Guide in our mind Whose plans always lead us to the experience of freedom from limitation. It shows us that we are Love, forever held in the safety of Its sure protection. Nothing can harm the Love we are, for nothing else is real. We accept the lead of our inner Guide by our willingness to turn over our thoughts and perceptions to be cleansed of all remnants of belief in separation.

As we do this, our mind is healed. We see the world through the eyes of Love. We no longer seek Love where it cannot be found, but accept that we have and are Love. Each time we release a fear-based thought with the Holy Spirit’s help, we experience greater peace of mind. Happiness is our daily experience. We become increasingly willing to follow Holy Spirit’s lead instead of the ego’s plans as we experience the blessings His plans bring.

Listening to the Voice of Love

The body is a fence the Son of God imagines he has built, to separate parts of his Self from other parts.

The body is a dream. Like other dreams it sometimes seems to picture happiness, but can quite suddenly revert to fear, where every dream is born. For only love creates in truth, and truth can never fear. Made to be fearful, must the body serve the purpose given it. But we can change the purpose that the body will obey by changing what we think that it is for.

The body is the means by which God’s Son returns to sanity. Though it was made to fence him into hell without escape, yet has the goal of Heaven been exchanged for the pursuit of hell. The Son of God extends his hand to reach his brother, and to help him walk along the road with him. Now is the body holy.

Love is your safety. Fear does not exist. Identify with love, and you are safe. Identify with love, and you are home. Identify with love, and find your Self. (A Course in Miracles Workbook 5. What Is the Body?, W-pII.5.1:1;3:1-4:4;5:4-8. See also ACIM Lesson Insights.)

All dreams are born of fear because they come from the belief in lack of Love. From within the dream there is no remedy for this fear. The best the ego can offer is empty images to cover the fear. Sometimes we like the images it offers. But sooner or later their fearful foundation comes to the surface. This cycle is repeated over and over until we reach the limit of our tolerance for pain.

In the midst of the dream our true Self calls to us unceasingly from within our mind to return to Love. This call draws us to continue searching for the Love we believe we are missing. But it calls with the Voice of Love. It calls softly and can seem to be drowned out by the ego’s fearful chatter. But we can hear this Voice if we are willing to disown the chatter, quiet our mind and welcome the peace within our mind where our true Self lives and has Its being.

We can choose to listen to this Voice in every moment. Just like we can listen selectively with the body’s ears, disregarding what we don’t want to hear, we can select to listen to the Voice of Love in our mind. It will guide us to see past the barriers the ego erects. Love’s vision shows us the Love we are that unites us with every brother. When we choose to see with Love’s eyes, the past fades away and we recognize that we live now and always in the Presence of Love. We remember Heaven is our Home.
