Present Trust

In our reading in A Course in Miracles this morning, this is what stood out:

Your present trust in Him is the defense that promises a future undisturbed, without a trace of sorrow, and with joy that constantly increases, as this life becomes a holy instant, set in time, but heeding only immortality. Let no defenses but your present trust direct the future, and this life becomes a meaningful encounter with the truth that only your defenses would conceal. (W-pI.135.19)

This brings to mind “God is the strength in which I trust.” I need this reminder often. Otherwise I can get lost in thoughts of vulnerability and feeling I need to make plans on my own for my defense and safety.

Placing my trust in my true Self is how I am led Home. It is what brings me peace and joy. Trusting in God’s plan and not my own is the cornerstone for returning to the awareness of my true Identity. My practice for today is to focus on my present trust in Him. And for this constant reminder I give thanks.

With trust comes the recognition that I’m being carried by the Love of God. When I identify with a separate self-identity, trust goes out the window and I feel weak and vulnerable, in need of defense.

To come back to trust, it is important that I pause and do whatever I need to do to welcome peace again into my awareness. It may be as simple as taking a breath and relaxing. But if I am emotionally involved in the appearance of the moment, I may need to do more to set that aside and let peace return to my awareness. As I return to peace, trust comes with it and I remember that I am carried by the Love of God.
