Receiving the Experience of God’s Gift of Love

Healing is freedom. For it demonstrates that dreams will not prevail against the truth. Healing is shared. And by this attribute it proves that laws unlike the ones which hold that sickness is inevitable are more potent than their sickly opposites. Healing is strength. For by its gentle hand is weakness overcome, and minds that were walled off within a body free to join with other minds, to be forever strong.

Healing, forgiveness, and the glad exchange of all the world of sorrow for a world where sadness cannot enter, are the means by which the Holy Spirit urges you to follow Him. His gentle lessons teach how easily salvation can be yours; how little practice you need undertake to let His laws replace the ones you made to hold yourself a prisoner to death. His life becomes your own, as you extend the little help He asks in freeing you from everything that ever caused you pain. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 137, W-pI.137.8-9. We are sane when we accept the truth of what is real and disregard everything that is unreal. We are told that only Love is real. Our sane mind accepts the reality of Love and sees nothing else.

The ego is the attempt to wall off a tiny part of the mind in an illusion that seems to maintain a world of separation and fear. In this world the reality of Love is unknown and cannot be seen. Having totally embraced the illusion of separation, the ego is wholly insane, for it does not recognize the unreality of illusions. Instead it defends illusions with all its might because the loss of illusions would mean the end of the ego.

The seeming strength of the ego comes only from our belief in it. When we accept the ego thought system, the unity of Love becomes unknown to us for we have stepped into insanity, which maintains illusions through judgment, guilt and fear. Yet this tiny fragment of a mind which believes it is everything remains connected with the truth through the Voice for God.

Whenever we reach a point of deciding there must be a better way, we can turn to the Voice for God for help to find our way past the wall of illusion. His Voice will teach us to see the Love beyond the form. It will teach us to offer Love in response to calls for Love. And as we learn these happy lessons, we free ourselves from the limitations of belief in separation. We experience the blessing of God’s gift of Love.

Opening to Holy Spirit’s Perspective

The special relationship is totally meaningless without a body. If you value it, you must also value the body. And what you value you will keep. The special relationship is a device for limiting your self to a body, and for limiting your perception of others to theirs.

The Holy Spirit asks only this little help of you: Whenever your thoughts wander to a special relationship which still attracts you, enter with Him into a holy instant, and there let Him release you. He needs only your willingness to share His perspective to give it to you completely. And your willingness need not be complete because His is perfect. It is His task to atone for your unwillingness by His perfect faith, and it is His faith you share with Him there. Out of your recognition of your unwillingness for your release, His perfect willingness is given you. Call upon Him, for Heaven is at His Call. And let Him call on Heaven for you. Many times throughout the Course we are told that we are not a body. Together as Spirit, we are God’s one Son. When we respond or react to a brother’s words or actions, we are reacting to an image that is an illusion hiding the Son of God from our awareness. We react to what another body does because we believe we are a body. The undoing of this mistaken belief is the foundation of all miracles.

As we are willing to open our minds to the Holy Spirit’s perspective as our reference for seeing, we free ourselves from the limitations of the body. This is how we make our transition from the fake world made by belief in separation to the real world that sees only the Light of Love as real.

Holy Spirit, guide our mind today to see as you see. We are willing to see anew. Help our unwillingness that we may accept your gift of Heaven.

Let Us Be Love’s Messengers

Death is a thought that takes on many forms, often unrecognized. It may appear as sadness, fear, anxiety or doubt; as anger, faithlessness and lack of trust; concern for bodies, envy, and all forms in which the wish to be as you are not may come to tempt you. All such thoughts are but reflections of the worshipping of death as savior and as giver of release.

Our Father, bless our eyes today. We are Your messengers, and we would look upon the glorious reflection of Your Love which shines in everything. We live and move in You alone. We are not separate from Your eternal life. There is no death, for death is not Your Will. And we abide where You have placed us, in the life we share with You and with all living things, to be like You and part of You forever. We accept Your Thoughts as ours, and our will is one with Yours eternally. Amen. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 163, W-pI.163.1;9. See also ACIM Lesson 163 Insights.)

Since God is Love, His Thoughts are extensions of Love. To share His Thoughts is to have Thoughts of Love and extending Love. These are our only real Thoughts. They are the Thoughts of eternal Life in a state of peace and joy.

The world we experience with a body is not of God’s making. It is a world of false images based on belief in separation — death. We don’t think of envy, sadness, guilt or anger as thoughts of death. But they all deny the changeless presence of peace and joy that are the condition of God’s Thoughts of Love.

Let us today welcome God’s Thoughts in our minds. Let us today be Love’s messengers and teach ourselves and all the world that we remain at Home in God’s eternal, changeless Love.

Letting Love Direct Our Seeing

Christ’s vision is a miracle. It comes from far beyond itself, for it reflects eternal love and the rebirth of love which never dies, but has been kept obscure. Christ’s vision pictures Heaven, for it sees a world so like to Heaven that what God created perfect can be mirrored there. The darkened glass the world presents can show but twisted images in broken parts. The real world pictures Heaven’s innocence.

Christ’s vision is the bridge between the worlds. And in its power can you safely trust to carry you from this world into one made holy by forgiveness. Things which seem quite solid here are merely shadows there; transparent, faintly seen, at times forgot, and never able to obscure the light that shines beyond them. Holiness has been restored to vision, and the blind can see.

Christ has dreamed the dream of a forgiven world. It is His gift, whereby a sweet transition can be made from death to life; from hopelessness to hope. Let us an instant dream with Him. His dream awakens us to truth. His vision gives the means for a return to our unlost and everlasting sanctity in God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 159, W-pI.159.3;5;10:4-8. Christ’s vision does not use the body’s eyes. This vision comes from the part of our mind that remembers its unity with Love. It sees all things from Love’s perspective. Being the denial of Love, the ego cannot see from Love’s perspective. All that the ego sees is made up images that attempt to give reality to illusions. The means to see our way out of the ego’s darkness is Christ’s vision. It is through Christ’s vision that we forgive.

To open our minds to Christ’s vision today, we will ask ourselves frequently, “Is Love directing my seeing?” If the answer is no, we will ask for help to see through the forgiving eyes of Christ, for we desire to join with Christ’s dream of the forgiven world.

From Insanity to Love’s Sanity

Since the thoughts of which I am aware do not mean anything, the world that pictures them can have no meaning. What is producing this world is insane, and so is what it produces. Reality is not insane, and I have real thoughts as well as insane ones. I can therefore see a real world, if I look to my real thoughts as my guide for seeing.

My thoughts are images that I have made. Whatever I see reflects my thoughts. It is my thoughts that tell me where I am and what I am. The fact that I see a world in which there is suffering and loss and death shows me that I am seeing only the representation of my insane thoughts, and am not allowing my real thoughts to cast their beneficent light on what I see. Yet God’s way is sure. The images I have made cannot prevail against Him because it is not my will that they do so. My will is His, and I will place no other gods before Him. Insane thoughts come from belief in illusions. Belief makes illusion seem real. Reacting to illusions as if they were real is the definition of insanity. When we believe that what our body perceives is real, we react insanely. Fear, guilt, loneliness, sadness, a sense of not being loved are reactions to illusions.

All this passes away as we learn to recognize illusions for what they are and turn instead to the real thoughts we share with God. God is Love and His Thoughts are extensions of Love. To share His Thoughts is to join with Thoughts of Love to the exclusion of all else, for there is nothing else.

Forgiveness reveals the real world to us for it lifts the veil that hides our real Thoughts of Love. Today we would turn to the Thoughts of Love in our mind that we may see the real world.

Only Be Still

There is peace within you to be called upon today, to help make ready your most holy mind to hear the Voice for its Creator speak.

He speaks from nearer than your heart to you. His Voice is closer than your hand. His Love is everything you are and that He is; the same as you, and you the same as He.

It is your [True] voice to which you listen as He speaks to you. It is your word He speaks. It is the Word of freedom and of peace, of unity of will and purpose, with no separation nor division in the single Mind of Father and of Son. In quiet listen to your Self today, and let Him tell you God has never left His Son, and you have never left your Self. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 125, W-pI.125.6:4;7:2-8:. The peace everyone seeks in this world is ever-present within. Though a quiet environment can help minimize distraction, the Source of peace is within our minds. It is the part that remembers its unity with Love. Here is where we find solace to comfort us in a chaotic world. Here is where the quiet stillness of changeless Love can be received and inspire us in the way to walk lovingly in the world.

Let us today take time to be still, quiet our minds and remember the peace of God within. Let us take this peace with us into the world and extend it to our brothers. Peace belongs to all without exception. As we offer it we bless our brothers and experience that same blessing for ourselves. We need only to be still.

Joining Christ in Peace

The Christ in you is very still. He looks on what He loves, and knows it as Himself. And thus does He rejoice at what He sees, because He knows that it is one with Him and with His Father.

The Christ in you looks only on the truth, and sees no condemnation that could need forgiveness. He is at peace because He sees no sin. Identify with Him, and what has He that you have not? He is your eyes, your ears, your hands, your feet. How gentle are the sights He sees, the sounds He hears. How beautiful His hand that holds His brother’s, and how lovingly He walks beside him, showing him what can be seen and heard, and where he will see nothing and there is no sound to hear.

The Christ in you is very still. He knows where you are going, and He leads you there in gentleness and blessing all the way. His Love for God replaces all the fear you thought you saw within yourself.

His perfect lack of specialness He offers you, that you may save all living things from death, receiving from each one the gift of life that your forgiveness offers to your Self. The sight of Christ is all there is to see. The song of Christ is all there is to hear. The hand of Christ is all there is to hold. There is no journey but to walk with Him. Christ’s vision sees only innocence. But the ego’s judgment and condemnation block the vision of innocence from our awareness. If we want to experience the peace Christ’s vision offers us, we have to give up our judgments; we have to forgive.

Fortunately, we do not have to figure out how to justify forgiveness on our own. The Voice for God will guide us and His strength supports us to learn that forgiveness is always justified in truth. We need only recognize the false foundation upon which judgment rests and we will naturally let it go.

Today we gratefully take Christ’s hand to walk with Him and let Him show us the innocence that He sees everywhere. For we would join Him in peace.
