Let Me See the Truth in My Brother

Today I learn the law of love; that what I give my brother is my gift to me.

This is Your law, my Father, not my own. I have not understood what giving means, and thought to save what I desired for myself alone. And as I looked upon the treasure that I thought I had, I found an empty place where nothing ever was or is or will be. Who can share a dream? And what can an illusion offer me? Yet he whom I forgive will give me gifts beyond the worth of anything on earth. Let my forgiven brothers fill my store with Heaven’s treasures, which alone are real. Thus is the law of love fulfilled. And thus Your Son arises and returns to You.

How near we are to one another, as we go to God. How near is He to us. How close the ending of the dream of sin, and the redemption of the Son of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 344, W-pII.344. See also ACIM Lesson 344 Insights.)

The perception of adversaries and differences comes from a desire to keep something for ourselves alone. What we try to keep for ourselves alone must be protected and kept apart. Peace is impossible in such a world, which is nothing but a dream.

We really want to see the truth in our brothers and ourselves. We really want to see and know the Love we share. This is the focus of all our searching here. But it cannot be found while we hang on to the desire to keep anything for ourselves alone.

It is through forgiveness that we let go of this mistaken desire. It is through forgiveness that the brother perceived as adversary becomes our dearest Friend, offering the gift of Love that cannot be found in the dream world. With the help of the Holy Spirit we have the means to lay down the false desires and accept the gift of Love that is ever present. Today we practice accepting Holy Spirit’s help.

Learning from the Holy Spirit

Reality is never frightening. It is impossible that it could upset me. Reality brings only perfect peace. When I am upset, it is always because I have replaced reality with illusions I made up. The illusions are upsetting because I have given them reality, and thus regard reality as an illusion. Nothing in God’s creation is affected in any way by this confusion of mine. I am always upset by nothing.

When I have forgiven myself and remembered Who I am, I will bless everyone and everything I see. There will be no past, and therefore no enemies. From the first day of our birth as a body, we start labeling everything we experience. We label them as good or bad, useful or useless, helpful or harmful, wanted or unwanted. We build a library of labels which we draw upon to interpret all perceptions. Interpretation of any kind is impossible without past learning. Yet it is interpretation based on the past that prevents us from recognizing the Reality of the Eternal Now.

We can learn another way with the help of the Holy Spirit. We need to resign as our own interpreter and turn over all perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His interpretation. With His help we see beyond the veil of form to the unifying Light of Love that unites us with all our brothers and our Source. As we let Holy Spirit decide all things on our behalf, the past fades and we experience the Heaven of the Eternal Present.

Welcoming God’s Plan

The ego’s plan for salvation centers around holding grievances. It maintains that, if someone else spoke or acted differently, if some external circumstance or event were changed, you would be saved. Thus, the source of salvation is constantly perceived as outside yourself. Each grievance you hold is a declaration, and an assertion in which you believe, that says, “If this were different, I would be saved.” The change of mind necessary for salvation is thus demanded of everyone and everything except yourself.

God’s plan for salvation works simply because, by following His direction, you seek for salvation where it is. But if you are to succeed, as God promises you will, you must be willing to seek there only.

Ask Him very specifically:

What would You have me do?
Where would You have me go?
What would You have me say, and to whom?

Happiness comes with welcoming God’s plan for our salvation. What we believe will make us happy is what we believe is our salvation. God’s Will for us is perfect happiness.

The world of bodies and separate forms that we experience comes from the belief that something other than God’s plan will make us happy. In fact, this belief stems from a grievance we have against God. God would not and cannot give us special Love. He has already given us all that He is, including all His joy.

Believing that something else can give us more than all of God’s joy is the ultimate grievance that must be undone. If we look honestly at our experience in the world, we have to admit that nothing has ever provided us lasting happiness and peace. Nothing has ever satisfied our need for Love. As we come to this recognition, we become willing to welcome God’s plan for our happiness.

Living in Love

The extension of the Holy Spirit’s purpose from your relationship to others, to bring them gently in, is the way in which He will bring means and goal in line. The peace He lay, deep within you and your brother, will quietly extend to every aspect of your life, surrounding you and your brother with glowing happiness and the calm awareness of complete protection. And you will carry its message of love and safety and freedom to everyone who draws nigh unto your temple, where healing waits for him. You will not wait to give him this, for you will call to him and he will answer you, recognizing in your call the Call for God. And you will draw him in and give him rest, as it was given you. When we accept the Holy Spirit’s purpose as our own, we receive tremendous benefits. We will feel His deep peace and glow with happiness. We will be confident in His sure protection. We will be inspired to carry His message of Love and safety and freedom to all our brothers. As we extend this message, we accept it as our own. We live in peace that cannot be disturbed. Our joy overflows and we know that we are Love.

Accepting the Truth from Holy Spirit

Real Vision, the Vision of Christ, is the Holy Spirit’s gift to those who want Truth, not illusion, and are willing to do what is necessary.… Through the unified vision of the Holy Spirit, you see the Truth reflected in the world of illusion. His vision shows you the Light that is in your brother and all things.…

To see the Light in your brother is to see him truly. In that shining Light, his innocence is reflected for you to see beyond the shadow of a doubt. The one Light and the innocence of the Christ shining there are also in you; through the willingness to see your brother as he truly is, you are able to see the Truth in yourself. This is the gift every brother holds out to you. Accept it gratefully that you may be joined together as One, and together you will leave the world of fear and separation. The body’s eyes show us separation and not oneness. The body’s eyes see differences and not unity. Because we want to be free of the ego’s limiting bondage, we now practice daily opening to the truth of Love’s oneness.

As we consistently choose to see through Holy Spirit’s eyes, we are led to see the one Light beyond the images of separation. This one Light is in every brother we see or even think of. And it is the Holy Spirit That brings this awareness to our mind.

The Holy Spirit reminds us that, “The sight of Christ is all there is to see. The song of Christ is all there is to hear. The hand of Christ is all there is to hold. There is no journey but to walk with Him.” (A Course in Miracles Text)

Today we vigilantly practice accepting the truth from the Holy Spirit.

Which Voice Am I Listening To?

Heaven asks nothing. It is hell that makes extravagant demands for sacrifice. You give up nothing in these times today when, undefended, you present yourself to your Creator as you really are.

He has remembered you. Today we will remember Him. For this is Eastertime in your salvation. And you rise again from what was seeming death and hopelessness. Now is the light of hope reborn in you, for now you come without defense, to learn the part for you within the plan of God. What little plans or magical beliefs can still have value, when you have received your function from the Voice for God Himself? (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 135, W-pI.135.24:3-25:6. Do we want to follow the voice for littleness that teaches we are weak and vulnerable and subject to death? Or do we want to follow the Voice for God that teaches us that we share God’s magnitude and eternal Life? In every instant we choose between these two options. The voice for littleness is simply a false idea that can only attempt to teach us that illusions are real, yet can never make them real. The Voice for God lovingly leads us to remembering the reality that we share God’s joy and peace.

To break the habit of listening to the voice for littleness first, it is helpful to practice frequently pausing through the day and asking ourselves, “Am I listening to the voice for littleness or the Voice for God? Am I feeling mad, sad, fearful or anxious, or am I feeling happy and peaceful?”

If we recognize that we are not feeling peaceful, then it can be helpful to step back, take a breath and relax. Then ask the Holy Spirit for help to see as He sees and do as He would have us do. This is our journey to resurrection to the one Life we share with God.

We Rest at Home in God

Your Home is in God. This is a fact not to be disputed or argued against, but to be accepted. Allow the Holy Spirit to gently guide you through the chaotic maze of your own mind, past the resistance of many lifetimes, beyond the fear that veils the Truth, to the memory of your Father that He may take the last step that returns you to your true Home forever. God has always been your Home; you rest in Him in deepest peace, undisturbed by idle dreams and passing fantasies. The constant noise of this world, the cries of pain that arise from the suffering ones, the class of arms and constant conflict; all this cannot reach you or diminish the peace and security you experience when you rest in God. Nothing can reach you there but what belongs to you in Truth, what is part of you forever. My brothers, you are not forsaken; you have not been left comfortless. Even in a world of dreams, you carry your Home with you always. Within you It waits for your recognition that It may shelter you from the battle that rages without. Please accept It now, turn within and find peace.” (From the Christ Book II, pp. 209-210)

As we daily practice turning within and finding peace, we strengthen our awareness of the Truth… We strengthen our awareness that in reality we are at Home in God… We are safe in the one Mind of God… This safety in God includes everyone… As we return to the awareness that we are at Home in God, we also realize everyone is there with us… We don’t go Home alone…

We may dream dreams of doom and disaster, guilt and death, but all the while we remain Home in God. No one is left outside God’s holy Home. We practice this today as we continue to go within and connect with the Truth that lies within our mind. We may waiver, but the strength of God lies within us. We accept God’s strength and extend it to the world. All this comes as we quiet our mind and rest at Home in God.
