Thought Reversal

Mary:
As we read in A Course in MIracles this morning, it occurred to me how helpful the Course is in reversing the whole thought system of the ego. This complete thought reversal is necessary and this is what time is for now. The ego thought system is based on guilt and so it is guilt that must be undone by the Holy Spirit. In Text, Chapter 13, Introduction, it says:

For it is guilt that has obscured the Father to you, and it is guilt that has driven you insane. The acceptance of guilt into the mind of God’s Son was the beginning of the separation, as the acceptance of the Atonement is its end. …This world is a picture of the crucifixion of God’s Son. And until you realize that God’s Son cannot be crucified, this is the world you will see. Yet you will not realize this until you accept the eternal fact that God’s Son is not guilty. (T-13.Intro.1:7,2:1,4:1-3)

This complete thought reversal which the Course leads us to helps us understand that instead of separation, everyone still is part of God’s one Family of Universal Love. We learn that everyone is united in the one Mind of God. Everyone is totally innocent. The mad stories of guilt that are found in this world of separation in truth are nothing and nowhere.

It is the Holy Spirit Who resides in our mind eternally That frees us from the picture of the crucifixion of God’s Son. Today is a day of practice letting my inner Teacher show me the true innocence that lies in everyone. Herein lies my freedom and the freedom of the whole Sonship. Holding grievances is not what heals. Healing lies in the willingness to let the veil be lifted to see the face of Christ. This is my practice for today. And I give thanks.

We read today that peace and guilt cannot coexist. So if I want to be at peace, I need to forgive. This tells me that any disturbance of my peace is a signal that there is unforgiveness in my mind. I am reacting to an appearance in the present based on a belief or experience I am bringing from the past. Without the past I would see nothing but the present and only Love is now.

To have peace I need to give my full attention to the only meaningful function in this world — to forgive, to let go of the past. ACIM is very clear that I need help with this. My part is to be willing to look at my fear thoughts and offer them to the Holy Spirit. His part is to shine the Light of truth on them. He will show me that what I thought justified guilt had no effect whatsoever. Without effect, there is no cause for guilt and I remain innocent as Love created me.

My practice today is to be mindful of my level of peace and to bring all disturbing thoughts to the Holy Spirit for His purification. Only joy can come of this.
