Forgiveness Brings Freedom

Forgiveness is the only function here, and serves to bring the joy this world denies to every aspect of God’s Son where sin was thought to rule. Perhaps you do not see the role forgiveness plays in ending death and all beliefs that rise from mists of guilt. Sins are beliefs that you impose between your brother and yourself. They limit you to time and place, and give a little space to you, another little space to him. This separating off is symbolized, in your perception, by a body which is clearly separate and a thing apart. Yet what this symbol represents is but your wish to be apart and separate.

Forgiveness takes away what stands between your brother and yourself. It is the wish that you be joined with him, and not apart.

In joyous answer will creation rise within you, to replace the world you see with Heaven, wholly perfect and complete. What is forgiveness but a willingness that truth be true? (A Course in Miracles, T-26.VII.8:5-9:2;10:2-3)

We don’t realize we are imprisoning ourselves when we focus on the errors in our brothers instead of the truth in them. Focusing on the errors in our brothers forms a barrier to the awareness of Love’s presence. Denying Love’s presence brings unhappiness and pain, whether we realize it or not. Forgiveness is the means to free ourselves from this pain.

Forgiveness brings us everything we really want. It brings us back to Heaven, where we see our brother as he truly is. It lifts the veil of illusion that hides the face of Christ. Today our practice is to experience the freedom that forgiveness brings.

Letting the Holy Spirit Heal Our Thoughts

Let Him be Judge as well of everything that seems to happen to you in this world.

He will reinterpret all you see, and all occurrences, each circumstance, and every happening that seems to touch on you in any way from His one frame of reference, wholly unified and sure. And you will see the love beyond the hate, the constancy in change, the pure in sin, and only Heaven’s blessing on the world.

Such is your resurrection, for your life is not a part of anything you see. It stands beyond the body and the world, past every witness for unholiness, within the Holy, holy as Itself. In everyone and everything His Voice would speak to you of nothing but your Self and your Creator, Who is One with Him. So will you see the holy face of Christ in everything, and hear in everything no sound except the echo of God’s Voice. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.151.9:6;11:2-12:4)

It’s time to step down from the judge’s bench. While we believe we are in this world, the witnesses we call upon are false and cannot bring us the truth. As we step down, we make way for the Holy Spirit to take our place as Judge. The witnesses He calls are true. They speak of our holiness, our innocence and our Love. They show us our eternal unity with our Creator. We make way for the verdict of innocence as we let the Holy Spirit be the Judge of all things. This is our practice for today.

The Goal of Joining in Love

The Course tells us to ask of everything, “What is it for?” The answer to this question is only meaningful at the level of Spirit. At the level of form, the purpose of a telephone appears to be to talk to someone at a distance. At the level of Spirit, the only meaningful purpose is to communicate — to join in Love. It is this that must be our goal in every moment if we are to remember our true Self.

Our true Self knows only the unity of Love. Accepting Love’s unity is our only meaningful purpose in all things. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to guide our doing and our thoughts to the goal of joining in Love and extending Love so that we may remember we are Love.

With Gratitude, We See the Christ in Everyone

Deep in your mind the holy Christ in you is waiting your acknowledgment as you.

We will remember Him throughout the day with thankful hearts and loving thoughts for all who meet with us today. For it is thus that we remember Him. And we will say, that we may be reminded of His Son, our holy Self, the Christ in each of us:

I am as God created me.

Let us declare this truth as often as we can. This is the Word of God that sets you free. This is the key that opens up the gate of Heaven, and that lets you enter in the peace of God and His eternity.” (A Course in Miracles W-pI.110.9:4;11:1-7)

Today we focus on what is truly important. Today we honor our one true Self. We honor our Self by seeing the Christ in every brother we meet or even think of today. We honor our Self by remembering that we still are as God created us. With these thoughts in our hearts and minds, we return to our Father in gratitude and peace.

God’s Joy and Peace Are Ours Today

When we see a brother as Love, joy is inevitable. What could be more joyful than to join with our one Self in Love? In this joining, Love is made free to be Itself, extending Love without limit. In extending Love, we experience the joy of receiving Love. Love, by Its nature, continually extends and receives Love. This is our natural state. This is Heaven. This is why the Course says, “Heaven is You.” (A Course in Miracles T-4.III.1:4)

To free ourselves to experience the Heaven we are, we must let go of all judgment. Judgment places a false image between Heaven and our experience of It. Today our practice is to walk with Holy Spirit as our Interpreter in each moment. His judgment is wholly consistent. He sees every brother as Love and nothing else. His vision helps us look past appearances to the Love. With this practice we will know God’s joy and peace are ours today.

What Would Love Think?

I have said that you cannot change your mind by changing your behavior, but I have also said, and many times, that you can change your mind. When your mood tells you that you have chosen wrongly, and this is so whenever you are not joyous, then know this need not be. In every case you have thought wrongly about some brother God created, and are perceiving images your ego makes in a darkened glass. Think honestly what you have thought that God would not have thought, and what you have not thought that God would have you think. Search sincerely for what you have done and left undone accordingly, and then change your mind to think with God’s. This may seem hard to do, but it is much easier than trying to think against it. Your mind is one with God’s. Denying this and thinking otherwise has held your ego together, but has literally split your mind. As a loving brother I am deeply concerned with your mind, and urge you to follow my example as you look at yourself and at your brother, and see in both the glorious creations of a glorious Father. (A Course in Miracles T-4.IV.2)

God has one Thought that extends eternally — It is the Thought of Love. To decipher whether a thought is in line with God’s Thought, we can ask ourselves:
Would Love think this?
How would Love respond to this?
How would Love see this?

This passage is telling us that the truth in us is Love because Love is What created us. Love sees only innocence and perfect unity. This is what we will learn to see as we practice asking ourselves these questions. When we think with Love, joy is inevitable, for Love is complete and needs nothing but to extend Itself.

Vision Is Our Greatest Need

Recognizing that what I see reflects what I think I am, I realize that vision is my greatest need. The world I see attests to the fearful nature of the self-image I have made. If I would remember who I am, it is essential that I let this image of myself go. As it is replaced by truth, vision will surely be given me. And with this vision, I will look upon the world and on myself with charity and love.

I would let the door behind this world be opened for me, that I may look past it to the world that reflects the Love of God. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.56.2:2-6;3:4)

Love is everywhere, because only Love is real. We cannot see this Love while we believe we are a separate individual identified with a separate body. The body’s senses are incapable of showing us the Love that is everywhere. Yet we have within us the means to receive the vision that reveals the Love that joins us all as one.

As we let the Holy Spirit be our interpreter in all things, we will learn to see with the vision of Christ. We will recognize the truth in all our brothers… We will look upon the world with charity and Love… We will feel the comfort of perfect safety that Love holds within It… We will feel the joy of joining with and extending Love… We will experience the peace of our Home in God…

Everyone in the world feels the need for Love because the world of separate bodies is the denial of Love. The vision Holy Spirit offers us shows us that we already have and are the Love we crave.
