We Are Innocent, Loved and Free

If you would be a happy learner, you must give everything you have learned to the Holy Spirit, to be unlearned for you. (A Course in Miracles T-14.II.6:1)

The lessons of the ego are in direct opposition to the truth that we remain as God created us, complete and whole, one with our Creator. The ego teaches us to deny the truth of what we are. We have learned this lesson so well that we are convinced that we are bodies in a world of separate identities and forms, all of which are constantly changing and will ultimately crumble into nothingness. This is not a happy lesson. It is a lesson of fear and guilt.

We do not need to learn the truth, but we do need to unlearn what we have taught ourselves that makes us unaware of the truth we already know. But because the lessons we have learned were our choice, we believe them. Thus we need help from beyond our belief to unlearn these lessons.

This is why we need to give all that we have learned to the Holy Spirit and let Him unlearn it for us. We cannot do it on our own because the belief that we are on our own is a wall built against the truth. The Holy Spirit does not believe the wall exists and is not limited by it. And so He becomes our dear Friend, Who provides a bridge across the wall from the unhappiness of the ego’s lessons to the joy of remembering we are innocent. We are loved. We are free, and we are Home.
