Fearless Love

by Rev. Michael Graves, O.M.C.

Rev. Michael GravesHaving lived more than a few years of life now, I have come to know that most people in the world are genuinely kind and loving at heart. But I have also noticed that there seems to be something that stops some of us from fearlessly expressing love and kindness to others we meet in life. Especially if they are considered to be strangers or someone we don’t “know.”

Students of A Course in Miracles are more aware than most that there is no such thing as a stranger, only a brother, and that every encounter is a Holy encounter. Yet, many of us still struggle to be more open and fearless with others.

I Quit

by Rev. Carly D. Glasmyre, O.M.C.

Rev. Carly GlasmyreI walked into my manager’s office, tension running through my body. I sat down, looked into her eyes, told her I was giving my two weeks, and promptly burst into tears.

I was not happy at my current job, and I’d gotten a new one that paid more and was closer to my home. It was a victory, really. It just didn’t feel that way.

Ever since I was young, I believed that my job should make me happy. I grew up with people telling me to “follow my passion.” I read books that said doing what you love to do is the meaning of life. And, conversely, I watched adults in my life suffer and curse their jobs as the source of their unhappiness.

Changes and Distractions

by Rev. Maura Williams, O.M.C.

Rev. Maura WilliamsThis world we live in is full of changes and distractions. I can be peacefully sitting in my home and the phone could ring and a voice inform me of some bad news I was not prepared to hear. My world can go from very peaceful to the living hell of trying to comprehend the impossible.

A break up, a divorce, a diagnosis, a death, an accident, it doesn’t matter, they’re all the same. This kind of event intrudes into our somehow seemingly ordered lives and smashes us. It scatters each and every part of how we knew ourselves just moments ago.

How do we bring ourselves from the state of disbelief, disappointment, delusion and complete confusion? It all starts with remembering.

Trusting, Letting Go and Receiving

by Rev. Andrea Sassa Archuleta, O.M.C.

Rev. Andrea Sassa ArchuletaLately, people are sharing their concerns about money with me. Some are expressing future concerns — feeling they have enough money to take care of themselves now, but worrying whether they will have enough down the road. Others are feeling tired because earning the money they do have is hard work, so hard that their bodies ache. Then there are those feeling they do not have enough money right now — not enough to pay for the offices they rent to earn their livelihood.

The One About Waiting

by Rev. Stephan Mead, O.M.C.

Rev. Stephan Mead“When my check comes, I’ll finally get my affairs straightened out — then I’ll be happy.

“If she forgives me, and gives me another chance — then for sure I’ll be happy.

“All I need is for it not to rain next Tuesday, then the event will go well — and I’ll be happy.

“Is this day of hell ever going to end? At least after work I’ll be able to go home and relax — then I’ll be happy.”

Waiting, waiting, waiting! Does the ego have a better trick? Practically every conversation between Course students will reinforce the concept that, “the only time that exists is right now.” Then, while this concept is being discussed, the students will leave reality and start talking about “waiting,” waiting for something to happen. Waiting to finish the ACIM lessons, waiting for the next workshop to begin, waiting for a future occurrence when at long last they’ll be happy. Waiting for the impossible to become possible.

The Ecosystem of Your Mind

by Rev. Michelle Rado, O.M.C.

Rev. Michelle RadoAs a container — the physical ecosystem fully supports all life within it, oxygen and water all regenerative and perfectly supportive to our lives.

The ecosystem of God’s mind works the same. We exist within this beautifully pure mind — an ecosystem of Love.

Love

by Rev. Peggy Rivera, O.M.C.

Rev. Peggy Rivera, O.M.C.We say, “I love you,” all the time. I love my children, I love my spouse, I love my friends. We feel like we have lots of love to go around. And for the most part, I think we are sincere about that, but are we? What is love really?

There are different kinds of love, at least on the earth plane. The love we have for our siblings is different than the love we have for our friends. The love we have for our spouses or lover is completely different than the love we have for our children or our parents etc. We compare our love. We feel people have to prove love. We sometimes feel a shortage of love. Well is this really love?

Who Rules Your Mind?

by Barbara Franco Adams

Inspired by ACIM Workbook Lesson 26, “I rule my mind, which I alone must rule.”

Who rules your mind?

Have you left the door open for intruders to enter and trash your sense of peace?

Have you given the key to anyone who asks, or worse, demands it?

Do you claim your mind as yours, or do you offer it to whomever wishes to come inside, settle in and, after overstaying their welcome, claim Squatter’s Rights?

Enough Is Enough

by Rev. Robin Singler, O.M.C.

Rev. Robin SinglerAh, such energy and straining spent
to deny, to push away,
what is undeniable.
Pulling, pushing, yearning
plotting, plodding on, scheming,
all the while pretending that
love is nowhere,
that suffering is real,
that I am alone and loveless.

Dandelion Fluff — A Symbol of the True Me

by Rev. Gayla Monk, O.M.C.

Rev. Gayla MonkA delicate sphere ever so
airy and light,
An inner awareness begins,
to my delight.
Feeling so joyfully happy,
so ready to play,
For this is how I shall
see myself today.

Dandelion Fluff, resting in
God’s gentle hand,
So perfectly formed, an awareness

That I Am.
A Holy Message of Love,
ready to be shared,
For this moment
have I been prepared.

Ownership

by Rev. Maura Williams, O.M.C.

Rev. Marua WilliamsRecently I had one of the most empowering insights I’ve had in quite a long time. I brought my pastor, Rev. John Vise, a copy of something I’d written for his feedback. He carefully read the words I’d written and quietly looked up at me and said, “Stop taking ownership of the ego.” He then used a highlighter and marked all the times I’d used the word “my” in reference to the ego. I had never noticed myself doing this, and had never thought about the implications of taking ownership of the ego.

When we take ownership of something, we believe we are responsible for it. It’s ours and we have to take care of it. The care and feeding of an ego is impossible. It has a voracious appetite for drama and is never, ever full. It always wants to see more sin, feel more guilt and feel more fear. In this way it proves that it is right and God is wrong.

Authentic Prayer — The Kind of Prayer That Works

by Rev. Joseph Wolfe, O.M.C.

Rev. Joe WolfeI never really understood what genuine prayer really is. I used to think that to pray involved some measure of reverence — getting down on my knees and begging for some thing or some circumstance. Sometimes, though rarely, that kind of praying actually seemed to be effective, but most of the time I felt that I’d get better results beating on a dead horse. Usually for me prayer was a one way conversation, a plea or wish for something I thought I needed, something I wanted but didn’t have or a situation that I perceived would ‘make everything better’ if fulfilled.

Growing up, I observed many others praying in the same manner. From members of my family, to schoolmates and even entire church congregations, I saw what I perceived as the normal method of praying which was begging for stuff.

I went through many periods of time when I was downright angry and frustrated with praying. For the most part it didn’t seem to work. Many questions came up like who was I praying to and did “He” hear me or was “He” deliberately ignoring me? Did I do something to anger “Him” to the point that I was somehow unworthy of any answers to my prayers?
