Welcome Home

by Rev. Joseph Wolfe, O.M.C.

Rev. Joe Wolfe, O.M.C.Many years ago, as a small child three years old, I remember traveling in an old car driven by my father. It was a ‘49 Chevy ( a thirteen year old car) and we were leaving Texas, the home of his father and family and headed for the Chicago area.

I remember standing on the floor of the rear of the car, hanging onto the front bench seat, my left arm around my father as he drove. My older brother sat in the passenger seat next to my dad. I was thoroughly excited and loved riding in his car.

The One About Rules

by Rev. Stephan Mead, O.M.C.

Rev. Stephan Mead, O.M.C.Who really wants to follow rules? People in prison? Illegal immigrants? Politicians? The clergy? Law (rule) enforcement? Taxpayers? Unhappy people everywhere? Does anyone want to, “follow the rules?”

In ACIM Chapter 30 alone, more than fifteen rules are listed. Jesus has much to say about rules. Throughout the course, He mentions spiritual rules (laws, principles) that, if adhered to, will guarantee salvation. Jesus is also clear that since we haven’t done anything wrong, we really don’t need salvation anyway. (Ya gotta love A Course in Miracles!)

Learning to Forgive Promotes Healing

by Rev. Peggy Rivera, O.M.C.

Rev. Peggy Rivera, O.M.C.Relationships are a very good place for opportunities for us to see where we need to heal our minds.

How often do we hear ourselves or our brothers complain about something someone else said or did to make us unhappy? It is our thoughts that get out of control and when we believe our unhappiness is caused by some outside force we fall deeper and deeper into the perception we are alone and afraid and separate from our Source.

My Journey to Ordination

by Rev. Carly D. Glasmyre, O.M.C.

Rev. Carly GlasmyreI view becoming an Ordained Ministerial Counselor as a symbol of my trust in Holy Spirit. I began my journey with Pathways of Light with no intention of becoming a minister, but Spirit kept nudging me to keep going. My facilitator, Rev. Maria Felipe, suggested that I continue with the courses to grow and develop for myself, not to feel pressure to become a minister. But as I continued, I began to feel excited to share with others.

The Divine Physician

by Rev. Gail Hamley, O.M.C.

Rev. Gail Hamley, O.M.C.In the Course we are told “The removal of blocks, then, is the only way to guarantee help and healing.” (T-8.VII.11:1) As a long-time student of the Course, I have heard this many times and the awareness to do it in everyday circumstances can be very subtle. The ‘doing it’ requires a spiritual maturation of the self into the Christ-Self where Jesus’ lessons guide us.

Is There Freedom from Pain While in the Dream?

by Rev. Rosemarie Tropf, O.M.C.

Rev. Rosemarie TropfAs a student of ACIM for many years I have struggled with the question of whether I can reduce pain in the body through the study and practice of Spiritual lessons. I have studied Rosicrucianism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and many new age philosophies ever since I could read. I hobbled my way through two masters degrees in religious studies to try to figure out what all that meant. I am a seeker. I have also been a seeker suffering with chronic physical pain all along this path. I have often asked myself if I should stop studying spiritual issues because maybe that’s what’s making me hurt.

An Exercise in Trust

by Rev. Cathy Silva, O.M.C.

Rev. Cathy Silva“Using WAZE is an exercise in trust!” I said to my husband as we allowed the GPS app to navigate us around traffic and road hazards to arrive safely at our ‘destination’ — the fund-raiser event with Pathways of Light, Gary Renard and Joe Wolfe of Spirit Light Outreach.

I think of WAZE as an app and community of drivers all wrapped up in a tool for helping each other get where we want to go.

A Basket of Onions

by Rev. Myron Jones, O.M.C.

Rev. Myron JonesYou may have heard people talk about peeling the onion when referring to letting go of stubborn beliefs. I have always found this to be a very apt description of my process. I will notice a useless ego thought and ask the Holy Spirit to remove it from my mind. Depending on how attached I am to that thought, it will be gone, or it will seem to be gone.

Sometimes I will be surprised to see that it has turned up again. That is when I realize I had peeled away a layer of that belief, but I had been unwilling to let the entire belief go. Thus, it shows up again in the same form, or some other form, and I have the opportunity to peel another layer from that particular onion.

I used to have a whole basket of these onions, these false ego beliefs. Now the basket is not so full as it used to be, because I have been vigilant for signs that I have another thought to bring to the Holy Spirit.

The Practice of Listening

by Rev. Larry Glenz, O.M.C.

Rev. Larry GlenzThis lifelong New York boy has been living in Florida for the winter. Although I am an experienced traveler, this has been my longest period away from home on Long Island since my days as a young college student. Getting away, even for a little while, has always offered me the chance to reflect back on my everyday life. Living alone in my Florida condo this winter has again provided such an opportunity.

In this period of relative solitude, I have spent many hours alone with the Course – reading, writing, meditating and connecting to Holy Spirit. Getting quiet and listening to Spirit is an essential part of practicing ACIM, whether or not one lives a busy life. I believe that spending time alone with the intention of making this connection to Him provides the foundation for an ability to have the Voice for God guide you throughout the day.

Forgiveness Lessons with the Computer

by Rev. Linda Wisniewski, O.M.C.

Rev. Linda WisniewskiHappy New Year. Your computer is not working. Are you kidding me? I can’t survive without my computer. What will happen with the ministry? I depend on the computer for everything. How will I connect? How will those that are trying to contact me know that I’m here if I don’t answer them? Maybe they will think I don’t care. Oh, this is a disaster. I’m finished. Everything is ruined.

These are the ego thoughts that came rushing in when the server on the computer broke and I couldn’t get it fixed for four and a half days. Oh my. The ego is an insane thought system and I’m glad you didn’t see it in action when I found out it wouldn’t get fixed for four days. “What do you mean, the people don’t work on the weekends. Can’t you see this is an emergency?” screamed the ego.

Not only is the ego thought system loud, but it projects its loud mouth onto others. My poor husband thought I was ranting and raving at him as I was hurling my thoughts into the atmosphere.

Then of course the guilt came up. How could I be so mean to the one I love? What kind of Course student am I? I’m such a hypocrite. Again, the ego thought system will use anything to make us feel guilty, wronged and unworthy.

Fearless Love

by Rev. Michael Graves, O.M.C.

Rev. Michael GravesHaving lived more than a few years of life now, I have come to know that most people in the world are genuinely kind and loving at heart. But I have also noticed that there seems to be something that stops some of us from fearlessly expressing love and kindness to others we meet in life. Especially if they are considered to be strangers or someone we don’t “know.”

Students of A Course in Miracles are more aware than most that there is no such thing as a stranger, only a brother, and that every encounter is a Holy encounter. Yet, many of us still struggle to be more open and fearless with others.

I Quit

by Rev. Carly D. Glasmyre, O.M.C.

Rev. Carly GlasmyreI walked into my manager’s office, tension running through my body. I sat down, looked into her eyes, told her I was giving my two weeks, and promptly burst into tears.

I was not happy at my current job, and I’d gotten a new one that paid more and was closer to my home. It was a victory, really. It just didn’t feel that way.

Ever since I was young, I believed that my job should make me happy. I grew up with people telling me to “follow my passion.” I read books that said doing what you love to do is the meaning of life. And, conversely, I watched adults in my life suffer and curse their jobs as the source of their unhappiness.

Changes and Distractions

by Rev. Maura Williams, O.M.C.

Rev. Maura WilliamsThis world we live in is full of changes and distractions. I can be peacefully sitting in my home and the phone could ring and a voice inform me of some bad news I was not prepared to hear. My world can go from very peaceful to the living hell of trying to comprehend the impossible.

A break up, a divorce, a diagnosis, a death, an accident, it doesn’t matter, they’re all the same. This kind of event intrudes into our somehow seemingly ordered lives and smashes us. It scatters each and every part of how we knew ourselves just moments ago.

How do we bring ourselves from the state of disbelief, disappointment, delusion and complete confusion? It all starts with remembering.
