We Remain as God Created Us

I will accept Atonement for myself,
For I remain as God created me.

We have not lost the knowledge that God gave to us when He created us like Him. We can remember it for everyone, for in creation are all minds as one. And in our memory is the recall how dear our brothers are to us in truth, how much a part of us is every mind, how faithful they have really been to us, and how our Father’s Love contains them all. No matter how engrossed we have become in the dream of separation, there is still a part of our mind that remembers we remain as God created us. The dream has fully captured our attention so the memory of God has been pushed out of our awareness. Yet it remains intact. We need to be taught to recognize the dream for what it is. We need to learn that the dream has no substance and no value. It does not offer us anything that will satisfy us eternally.

As we begin to open to this recognition, we open our minds to be taught to see past the images of the dream. We begin to realize there is a better way — a more peaceful way, a more loving and happy way. Our brothers are seen less and less as adversaries and more as dear friends and companions in the way of Love. Love becomes our motivator. Compassion replaces fear. The recognition of innocence replaces judgment and guilt.

Today we would take another step closer toward accepting atonement for ourselves, remembering we remain as God created us.

Forgiveness Leads Us to Truth

“Forgiveness, not as the world understands it, but as it is in truth, is the highest form of Love attainable on earth. Forgiveness is given to all regardless of appearances; like Love, of which it is a part, its meaning lies in its all inclusiveness. Do not question the value of forgiveness; it will lead you back to God and perfect freedom. Without forgiveness, you are like a blind man trying to judge what he cannot see or understand, groping his way along through the darkness in which he lives. Forgiveness illuminates the darkness of human life, shining it away while restoring your mind to Love.

“What in this world could offer you anything remotely as valuable as forgiveness? It will undo the hell which you have made; a place of fear and hatred, marked by conflict and sorrow, ending in death. Forgiveness will heal your mind of the deep sense of guilt you have carried so long. It will relieve you of self hate and the sense of unworthiness that drives you to project guilt and the need for punishment onto your brothers. Forgiveness ends the dream of conflict and pain, of lovelessness and isolation. It will bring you back to where you belong, where you become a shining beacon, lighting the way for your brothers to follow.” (From the Christ Mind Book II, p. 225)

Forgiveness means stepping back from our normal everyday way of thinking and letting the Holy Spirit lead us to a new way of seeing the world. Forgiveness lightens the way Home to our true Source of Love in Heaven.

As we learn to consistently step back and listen to the Holy Spirit, we see the Love that lies beyond all forms… We move past time to the safety and peace that lie on our true eternal Nature…

We watch the world’s stories without believing in them… We feel Holy Spirit’s infinite patience, knowing that both time and space are illusions…

We now use time to awaken from the dream and help our brothers do the same… We feel the happiness the Truth brings to our mind and remember that we are safe in God’s Love, no matter what the dream scenarios look like… We give thanks that only the truth is true and that we all remain as God created us.

We Are Eternally Safe in Love

You taught yourself the most unnatural habit of not communicating with your Creator. Yet you remain in close communication with Him, and with everything that is within Him, as it is within yourself. Unlearn isolation through His loving guidance, and learn of all the happy communication that you have thrown away, but could not lose.

Whenever you are in doubt what you should do, think of His Presence in you, and tell yourself this, and only this:

He leadeth me, and knows the way, which I know not. Yet He will never keep from me what He would have me learn. And so I trust Him to communicate to me all that He knows for me.

Then let Him teach you quietly how to perceive your guiltlessness, which is already there. (A Course in Miracles, T-14.III.18-19. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

It feels like God has abandoned us only because we do not accept His communication. God communicates one thing only — His eternal, changeless Love for us, His Creation, his one Son. It is impossible that God could ever cease giving us all His Love. It is the nature of Love to extend Itself without limitation.

Our sense of loneliness, unworthiness and vulnerability comes only from our unwillingness to receive God’s communication of His Love. It is this unwillingness that must be released for us to once again remember that we remain at Home in Love.

God gave us a bridge, the Holy Spirit, so that we could never lose our connection with Him, no matter how much we try to deny it. We need only be willing to consider the possibility that what we perceive may be wrong. Because what we perceive is wrong, we are in a constant state of uncertainty. As we are willing to be taught the truth in place of our mistaken beliefs, uncertainty is replaced with the peace that comes from knowing that we are eternally safe in Love.

Releasing Barriers to Love

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. It is not necessary to seek for what is true, but it is necessary to seek for what is false. Every illusion is one of fear, whatever form it takes. And the attempt to escape from one illusion into another must fail. If you seek love outside yourself you can be certain that you perceive hatred within, and are afraid of it. Yet peace will never come from the illusion of love, but only from its reality.”

To lift the veil that seems so dark and heavy, it is only needful to value truth beyond all fantasy, and to be entirely unwilling to settle for illusion in place of truth. (A Course in Miracles, T-16.IV.6;10:4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

We have a very simple test to determine whether we are accepting the reality of truth or valuing illusions. Only Love is real. Peace only comes from accepting the reality of Love. If we are not experiencing perfect peace, then we must be valuing an illusion, which hides the presence of Love from our awareness.

To lift this veil, we need to withdraw our investment in wanting illusions to be real. We need to learn to recognize that illusions can offer us nothing in truth. We need to undo the mistaken lessons we have taught ourselves that illusions can give us anything of value.

To do this, we need to accept the kind and loving lessons offered us by the Teacher within. The practice of willingly holding our minds open to the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of everything we see, everything we experience, is how we unlearn the false lessons that stand between us and the experience of the joy and peace of God’s everlasting Love.

Holy Spirit, guide our thoughts, our words, our hands, our feet today that we may remember we remain as Love created us.

The Process of Awakening

Loss is not loss when properly perceived. Pain is impossible. There is no grief with any cause at all. And suffering of any kind is nothing but a dream. This is the truth, at first to be but said and then repeated many times; and next to be accepted as but partly true, with many reservations. Then to be considered seriously more and more, and finally accepted as the truth. I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt. And I would go beyond these words today, and past all reservations, and arrive at full acceptance of the truth in them.

Father, what You have given cannot hurt, so grief and pain must be impossible. Let me not fail to trust in You today, accepting but the joyous as Your gifts; accepting but the joyous as the truth. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 284, W-pII.284. See also ACIM Lesson 284 Insights.)

A Course in Miracles is radical in its message which leads to a complete thought reversal. It tells us that this Course requires a willingness to question everything we believe is true. Yet the Course leads us gently, acknowledging that at first there is great resistance to accepting its complete thought reversal. There is no judgment for this resistance. Instead we are offered a wide variety of exercises, affirmations and practices to help us lay aside the thoughts and beliefs that blind us to the truth.

It is important as students of the Course that we be gentle with ourselves as the Holy Spirit is. Because guilt feeds the ego, it is easy to get caught up in judging ourselves when we seem to fail to perfectly apply the practices offered. It is important to recognize this as an ego ploy to keep guilt in place.

The Holy Spirit never judges our seeming failures in practice. It simply continues to offer Its Help to support us and strengthen our little willingness. We are never alone. Help is ever present. We need only reach out our hand and accept the strength offered us moment by moment.

Help is here. Help is now. Today we would open our hands to receive It. Today we would welcome Love’s blessing and share It with our brothers.

Returning to Awareness of Our True Self

You will believe that you are part of where you think you are. That is because you surround yourself with the environment you want. And you want it to protect the image of yourself that you have made. The image is part of this environment. What you see while you believe you are in it is seen through the eyes of the image. This is not vision. Images cannot see.

The idea [that your mind is part God’s and you are very holy] presents a very different view of yourself. By establishing your Source it establishes your Identity, and it describes you as you must really be in truth.

If your mind is part of God’s you must be sinless, or a part of His Mind would be sinful. Your sight is related to His Holiness, not to your ego, and therefore not to your body. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 35, W-pI.35.1:1-2:2;36.1:7-8. See also ACIM Lesson 35 Insights.)

The recognition of our true Self requires a complete thought reversal. The image of a separate identity tied to a body image is the denial of our true Self. This denial makes it impossible for us to recognize our true Self. To return to awareness of the oneness of our true Self, we must let go of all the barriers of denial we have made. All our judgments, our fears, our sense of loneliness and guilt must be undone.

To do this requires help from outside the thought system that makes the images of a world of separation. We have that Help in the form of the Holy Spirit’s Presence in our minds. This Presence is always with us. We need only be willing to accept this Help.

The practice of holding our mind open to the Holy Spirit’s reinterpretation of all our perceptions leads us on the journey of awakening that gently and progressively lays aside the false images. As we set aside the false, the truth of our oneness in Love fills our awareness. Where we saw cause for fear, we now see opportunities to extend Love. Where we saw guilt, we now see innocence in our brothers and ourselves. Where we saw death and destruction, we see eternal Life in the Heart of God. We remember that our mind is part of God’s and we share His holiness.

Accepting God’s Purpose as Our Own

Think what is given those who share their Father’s purpose, and who know that it is theirs. They want for nothing. Sorrow of any kind is inconceivable. Only the light they love is in awareness, and only love shines upon them forever. It is their past, their present and their future; always the same, eternally complete and wholly shared. They know it is impossible their happiness could ever suffer change of any kind. Perhaps you think the battleground can offer something you can win. Can it be anything that offers you a perfect calmness, and a sense of love so deep and quiet that no touch of doubt can ever mar your certainty? And that will last forever?

No one who knows that he has everything could seek for limitation, nor could he value the body’s offerings. (A Course in Miracles, T-23.IV.8;9:4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

God is Love, and Love’s only purpose is to extend Itself. As God’s creation, His Son is only Love. The Son’s only purpose is to extend Love. The eternal, changeless extending of Love is joy. When we recognize that we share our Father’s purpose to eternally extend Love, we experience joy beyond comprehension in the dream world of bodies and forms.

Our sole purpose is Love’s purpose. Fulfilling that purpose brings us the experience of Heaven — quietness that cannot be disturbed. Certainty that makes doubt impossible and an awareness that we have need of nothing, for we share God’s completion. This is Heaven.

In the dream of bodies and separation, we are not aware of the Heaven that is our Home. But forgiveness releases us from the false ideas that hide Heaven. Forgiveness is the key to happiness. Forgiveness is the key to peace. Forgiveness is the key to awareness that we are whole, perfect and complete as Love created us.
