Accepting Holy Spirit’s Purpose as Our Own

You look still with the body’s eyes, and they can see but thorns. Yet you have asked for and received another sight. Those who accept the Holy Spirit’s purpose as their own share also His vision.… He sees no strangers; only dearly loved and loving friends. He sees no thorns but only lilies, gleaming in the gentle glow of peace that shines on everything He looks upon and loves.

You have the vision now to look past all illusions. It has been given you to see no thorns, no strangers and no obstacles to peace. The fear of God is nothing to you now. Who is afraid to look upon illusions, knowing his savior stands beside him? With him, your vision has become the greatest power for the undoing of illusion that God Himself could give. We want to let go of the fear and depression that come with joining with the ego’s thought system. We know too much to still want the ego’s artificial values — seeking for specialness and uniqueness instead of Love’s oneness. We know that seeking for these things only brings disappointment, sorrow and pain in the end.

We want Holy Spirit’s vision instead of the separation and differences the body’s eyes show us. We want to see innocence instead of the guilt we once sought to project onto others to alleviate our own guilt. With Holy Spirit, we are now able to see past all appearances of differences to the presence of Love that is behind all illusions. As we join with Holy Spirit’s purpose, we share the Love from the Holy Spirit with every brother.

We Are at Home in Heaven Now

The Atonement is in time, but not for time. Being in you, it is eternal. What holds remembrance of God cannot be bound by time. No more are you. For unless God is bound, you cannot be. An instant offered to the Holy Spirit is offered to God on your behalf, and in that instant you will awaken gently in Him. In the blessed instant you will let go all your past learning, and the Holy Spirit will quickly offer you the whole lesson of peace. What can take time, when all the obstacles to learning [peace] have been removed? Truth is so far beyond time that all of it happens at once. For as it was created one, so its oneness depends not on time at all. (A Course in Miracles, T-15.II.1. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Time is the ego’s prime tool for hiding the present from our awareness. By dwelling on the past and using it as the basis for fear of the future, we are unaware of the joyful and peaceful present.

Yet the Holy Spirit is ever present in our mind, ready and able to offer us the holy instant now. We need only be willing to lay the past aside and the holy present will fill our awareness, and the holy present extends forever. In the present, fear of the future does not exist, for there is no thought of future or past.

To open the door to the present, the Holy Spirit offers us the gift of forgiveness, which frees us from the past. Clean of the past, the wholeness and innocence of our brothers and ourselves fills our awareness. Without guilt, there is no fear. Without fear we are in perfect peace.

Today We Accept the Truth About Ourselves

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them.

This does Atonement teach, and demonstrates the Oneness of God’s Son is unassailed by his belief he knows not what he is. Today accept Atonement, not to change reality, but merely to accept the truth about yourself, and go your way rejoicing in the endless Love of God. It is but this that we are asked to do. Today we practice accepting the truth about ourselves. Today we accept the truth that we are one with the Mind of God. The Mind of God knows only oneness. The Mind of God is pure, unified, universal Love. We are the Thought of Love in the Mind of Love.

We accept the truth that we are not separate from our Source. We are not a separate body with a separate mind that thinks on its own. We are not special and unique, different from everyone else in the world of differences. As we let go of the false ideas of being separate and alone we have held in the past and open to the truth, we receive the miracle of true perception. We receive the peace, Love and joy that come from our true Nature. Because our true Nature is eternal, It does not come and go. It is always there as we return to the truth of What we really are.

Today we practice letting go of the madness we once believed in, which leaves room for the truth of our true Nature to enter. Today we practice accepting that we are still as God created us. We see this truth about every brother as we accept Love’s oneness.

How to Learn Everything

Those who remember always that they know nothing, and who have become willing to learn everything, will learn it. But whenever they trust themselves, they will not learn. They have destroyed their motivation for learning by thinking they already know. Think not you understand anything until you pass the test of perfect peace, for peace and understanding go together and never can be found alone. Each brings the other with it, for it is the law of God they be not separate. They are cause and effect, each to the other, so where one is absent the other cannot be.

Whenever you think you know, peace will depart from you, because you have abandoned the Teacher of peace. Whenever you fully realize that you know not, peace will return, for you will have invited Him to do so by abandoning the ego on behalf of Him. Call not upon the ego for anything; it is only this that you need do. The Holy Spirit will, of Himself, fill every mind that so makes room for Him. (A Course in Miracles, T-14.XI.12,13:3-6. When we choose to believe that we are a separate identity, our awareness of our connection with our Creator is blocked. God’s Love and peace are unknown to us, though they are ever present. To know God’s peace, we must let go of the denial of our oneness with God.

The ego cannot teach us about oneness, being the denial of unity. But we have been given another Teacher, Who is not deceived by the false beliefs of the ego. This Teacher is always with us and we remember His presence by accepting peace. We open to this peace by letting go of thinking we know what anything means.

The practice of turning to the Holy Spirit as our Guide in all things will lead us Home to the full recognition of our innate peace. We will remember that we are Love, along with all our brothers. There is no distance between us. We are one and the flow of Love joins us together eternally.

Letting Go of Thinking We Already Know

When your peace is threatened or disturbed in any way, say to yourself:

I do not know what anything, including this, means. And so I do not know how to respond to it. And I will not use my own past learning as the light to guide me now.

By this refusal to attempt to teach yourself what you do not know, the Guide Whom God has given you will speak to you. He will take His rightful place in your awareness the instant you abandon [your past learning], and offer it to Him.

It is only because you think that you can run some little part, or deal with certain aspects of your life alone, that the guidance of the Holy Spirit is limited. (A Course in Miracles, T-14.XI.6:6-11;8:4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

In any now moment we are choosing between following the ego thought system or following the Holy Spirit, our inner Teacher. If we are not in peace, we have chosen the ego and are trying to use our past learning as our guide.

As we consistently practice opening to our true Self, the feeling of angst will be replaced by peace. The darkness disappears when we let the Holy Spirit be in charge of our mind. In this happy place, the Holy Spirit brings what is need to our awareness in order to be truly helpful. Our trust in the Holy Spirit is strengthened and ego thoughts fade into the nothingness from which they came.

Choosing peace is the same as choosing our inner Teacher to be our Guide. As we continue practicing, our trust in our inner Teacher grows stronger day by day. We learn to laugh at fear thoughts as we see the ego thoughts for what they are instead of giving them power by believing in them.

Today we rejoice by remembering that we do not know what anything means and consistently choose the Guide That brings us peace and understanding. We are grateful for the miracles of true perception we receive from the Holy Spirit.

Learning to Accept Our True Reality

There is a way of finding certainty right here and now. Refuse to be a part of fearful dreams whatever form they take, for you will lose identity in them. You find yourself by not accepting [fearful dreams] as causing you, and giving you effects. You stand apart from them, but not apart from him who dreams them. Thus you separate the dreamer from the dream, and join in one, but let the other go. The dream is but illusion in the mind. And with the mind you would unite, but never with the dream. It is the dream you fear, and not the mind. You see them [dream and mind] as the same, because you think that you are but a dream. And what is real and what is but illusion in yourself you do not know and cannot tell apart. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.IV.2. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

When we believe we are a separate identity with a body in a world of separate bodies, we are believing that we are only a dream. Having accepted a dream figure as what we are, we cannot distinguish illusion from Reality. But we can be taught to recognize illusion for what it is. Thankfully, the instant we accepted the false idea of being separate, we were given the Teacher Who can teach us how to learn that we are not the false image we made.

We can refuse to be part of the fearful dream of separation by forming the habit of keeping our minds open to the Holy Spirit’s vision. When anything seems to disturb our peace, the habit of bringing that appearance to the Holy Spirit and accepting the Holy Spirit’s loving correction of the misperception is how we learn to distinguish the false from the true, the illusion from the reality. It’s how we wake up from the nightmare of fear and guilt. Today is another joyful opportunity to practice.

Seeing Past Appearances

Appearances deceive, but can be changed. Reality is changeless. It does not deceive at all, and if you fail to see beyond appearances you are deceived.… Reality is thus reduced to form, and capable of change. Reality is changeless. It is this that makes it real, and keeps it separate from all appearances. [Reality] must transcend all form to be itself. It cannot change.

Temptation, then, is nothing more than this; a prayer the miracle touch not some dreams, but keep their unreality obscure and give to them reality instead. (A Course in Miracles, T-30.VIII.1:1-3,5-9;3:4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The Course reminds us that the body is the instrument of the ego which show us images of separation. But what the body’s eyes show is not real.

We are learning now to accept the miracle forgiveness offers where we are able to see past bodies to the truth that only changeless Love is real. Joined with the Holy Spirit, we are able to rise above to see the Love. We are able to remember that reality is changeless. We become less susceptible to getting lost in the dream of being separate, vulnerable and alone. We are able to trust in the strength of God instead of the idols of separation the ego shows us.

As we consistently hold Holy Spirit’s Hand while we walk through these dreams of separation, we are able to remember that we are safe in the Mind of God and have never left. We open to the happy dream where we remember that our Reality cannot be threatened in any way. We remember we are eternal Spirit and there is no death. As we consistently join with Holy Spirit, we see past appearances to changeless Reality. We are filled with gratitude for all the Help we have every step of the way.
