Freeing Ourselves from the Dream of Conflict

Forgiveness ends the dream of conflict here.

Conflict must be resolved. ²It cannot be evaded, set aside, denied, disguised, seen somewhere else, called by another name, or hidden by deceit of any kind, if it would be escaped. ³It must be seen exactly as it is, where it is thought to be, in the reality which has been given it, and with the purpose that the mind accorded it. ⁴For only then are its defenses lifted, and the truth can shine upon it as it disappears.

Father, forgiveness is the light You chose to shine away all conflict and all doubt, and light the way for our return to You. ²No light but this can end our evil dream. ³No light but this can save the world. ⁴For this alone will never fail in anything, being Your gift to Your beloved Son. The ego is the idea of conflict. It is the wish for differences, so some can have more or be better than others. This wish manifests in the dream as competition, jealousy, war and a sense of loss. None of this can occur in the oneness of God’s Love.

God’s Love is unknown in the dream. Forgiveness clears away the interference that defends against Love’s oneness. Forgiveness is the bridge we walk across to welcome the Love of our Father.

We are so engrossed in the ego’s dream that we need help to let it go. Our Father has given us His Helper in our mind — the Holy Spirit. As we accept His help, we will learn to forgive our mistaken wishes and welcome the Love that eternally unites us with our Father in Heaven and every brother. We dedicate today to accepting His help.

Joying with the Cause of Love

I am forever an Effect of God.

Father, I was created in Your Mind, a holy Thought that never left its home. ²I am forever Your Effect, and You forever and forever are my Cause. ³As You created me I have remained. ⁴Where You established me I still abide. ⁵And all Your attributes abide in me, because it is Your Will to have a Son so like his Cause that Cause and Its Effect are indistinguishable. ⁶Let me know that I am an Effect of God, and so I have the power to create like You. ⁷And as it is in Heaven, so on earth. ⁸Your plan I follow here, and at the end I know that You will gather Your effects into the tranquil Heaven of Your Love, where earth will vanish, and all separate thoughts unite in glory as the Son of God.

Let us today behold earth disappear, at first transformed, and then, forgiven, fade entirely into God’s holy Will. (A Course in Miracles, W-326. See also ACIM Lesson 326 Insights.)

As an effect of God, we share all His attributes — His Love, His peace and His joy. As His Son, this is What we are in truth. God did not make a world of differences. When we have forgiven, the wish for specialness and differences will disappear and make way for us to extend our Father’s Love and joy and peace.

As His effect, we have the power to extend of His Cause. Forgiveness clears away the imagined barriers that would limit the extension of Love’s Cause. In truth, we are Love and nothing else. Love is all we can give because nothing else exists.

Today we let the Holy Spirit help us forgive our mistaken wishes and join in the eternal Cause of Love.

Accepting a Day of Gratitude

I gladly make the “sacrifice” of fear.

Here is the only “sacrifice” You ask of Your beloved Son; You ask him to give up all suffering, all sense of loss and sadness, all anxiety and doubt, and freely let Your Love come streaming in to his awareness, healing him of pain, and giving him Your Own eternal joy. ²Such is the “sacrifice” You ask of me, and one I gladly make; the only “cost” of restoration of Your memory to me, for the salvation of the world.

And as we pay the debt we owe to truth,—a debt that merely is the letting go of self-deceptions and of images we worshipped falsely—truth returns to us in wholeness and in joy. ²We are deceived no longer. ³Love has now returned to our awareness. ⁴And we are at peace again, for fear has gone and only love remains. All the fear and guilt we experience in this world is the direct result of preferring specialness over the oneness of God’s Love. It is a choice to deny God’s gift of all of Himself. It is valuing illusions in place of Truth.

Today we are willing to welcome God’s Gift by accepting the Holy Spirit’s help. We ask the Holy Spirit to heal our mistaken thoughts. We turn over our perceptions of a world of differences to Him. We are open to receive His loving corrections which show us that we remain united in Love’s oneness with all of Creation. Joy will replace all sadness. Peace will replace all conflict. And we will experience a day of gratitude.

Peace Welcomes Holy Spirit’s Help

The memory of God comes to the quiet mind. ²It cannot come where there is conflict, for a mind at war against itself remembers not eternal gentleness. ³The means of war are not the means of peace, and what the warlike would remember is not love. ⁴War is impossible unless belief in victory is cherished. ⁵Conflict within you must imply that you believe the ego has the power to be victorious.

Conflict must be between two forces. ²It cannot exist between one power and nothingness. ³There is nothing you could attack that is not part of you. ⁴And by attacking it you make two illusions of yourself, in conflict with each other. ⁵And this occurs whenever you look on anything that God created with anything but love. …⁹Let all this madness be undone for you, and turn in peace to the remembrance of God, still shining in your quiet mind.

Illusion meets illusion; truth, itself. ²The meeting of illusions leads to war. ³Peace, looking on itself, extends itself. ⁴War is the condition in which fear is born, and grows and seeks to dominate. ⁵Peace is the state where love abides, and seeks to share itself. ⁶Conflict and peace are opposites. ⁷Where one abides the other cannot be; where either goes the other disappears. ⁸So is the memory of God obscured in minds that have become illusions’ battleground. ⁹Yet far beyond this senseless war it shines, ready to be remembered when you side with peace. We let our insanity be undone for us by turning all our perceptions over to the Holy Spirit for His interpretation. He will help us see past the illusions of differences to the Love of God that unites us with our creator.

We welcome the Holy Spirit’s help by stepping back from our perceptions and pausing to let peace into our conflicted mind. In peace we remember the Love that created us. We remember God. In this state of mind, the images of the world fade. The Light of Love shows us that we dwell in Love with all our brothers whom we happily join to extend universal Love.

Letting Love Light Our Mind

⁵Judgment will always give you false directions, but vision shows you where to go. ⁶Why should you guess?

There is no need to learn through pain. ²And gentle lessons are acquired joyously, and are remembered gladly. ³What gives you happiness you want to learn and not forget. ⁴It is not this you would deny. ⁵Your question is whether the means by which this course is learned will bring to you the joy it promises. ⁶If you believed it would, the learning of it would be no problem. ⁷You are not a happy learner yet because you still remain uncertain that vision gives you more than judgment does, and you have learned that both you cannot have.

⁵Listen, and see if you remember an ancient song you knew so long ago and held more dear than any melody you taught yourself to cherish since.

Beyond the body, beyond the sun and stars, past everything you see and yet somehow familiar, is an arc of golden light that stretches as you look into a great and shining circle. …⁵Within it everything is joined in perfect continuity. ⁶Nor is it possible to imagine that anything could be outside, for there is nowhere that this light is not.

This is the vision of the Son of God, whom you know well. ²Here is the sight of him who knows his Father. ³Here is the memory of what you are; a part of this, with all of it within, and joined to all as surely as all is joined in you. ⁴Accept the vision that can show you this, and not the body. ⁵You know the ancient song, and know it well. ⁶Nothing will ever be as dear to you as is this ancient hymn of love the Son of God sings to his Father still.

What we ‘see’ with the body’s eyes is self-deception. The body itself is an illusion and can only show us illusions. We are not a body. The Vision of our true Self shows us only the Light of Love, which is all that is real. This Light shines on all, equally.

Our practice, today, is to let Love light our mind. We want to see the Love that is our brother, and remember we are united as the one Self that is God’s Son. In this remembrance we find the peace of God and our hearts sing with joy.

Accepting God’s Gift of Universal Love

This is the only thing that you need do for vision, happiness, release from pain and the complete escape from sin, all to be given you. ²Say only this, but mean it with no reservations, for here the power of salvation lies:

³I am responsible for what I see.
⁴I choose the feelings I experience, and I decide upon the goal I would achieve.
⁵And everything that seems to happen to me I ask for, and receive as I have asked.

⁶Deceive yourself no longer that you are helpless in the face of what is done to you. ⁷Acknowledge but that you have been mistaken, and all effects of your mistakes will disappear.

It is impossible the Son of God be merely driven by events outside of him. ²It is impossible that happenings that come to him were not his choice. ³His power of decision is the determiner of every situation in which he seems to find himself by chance or accident. ⁴No accident nor chance is possible within the universe as God created it, outside of which is nothing. ⁵Suffer, and you decided sin was your goal. ⁶Be happy, and you gave the power of decision to Him Who must decide for God for you. The wish for specialness demands that some must lose for others to gain. In this plan, harm is inevitable, attack justified and defense a necessity. This is the price we pay for believing in a unique identity.

But our true Identity is Love, universally one for eternity. Love joyously gives Itself without limit and receives all that it gives. It dwells in peace, knowing it is eternally safe in Love’s changelessness. Today we choose to accept God’s gift of all His Love and joyously extend to all.

The Holy Spirit Guides Us to See Our Oneness

You cannot forget the Father because I am with you, and I cannot forget Him. ²To forget me is to forget yourself and Him Who created you. ³Our brothers are forgetful. ⁴That is why they need your remembrance of me and of Him Who created me. ⁵Through this remembrance, you can change their minds about themselves, as I can change yours. ⁶Your mind is so powerful a light that you can look into theirs and enlighten them, as I can enlighten yours. …I do want to share my mind with you because we are of one Mind, and that Mind is ours. ¹⁰See only this Mind everywhere, because only this is everywhere and in everything. ¹¹It is everything because it encompasses all things within itself. ¹²Blessed are you who perceive only this, because you perceive only what is true.

Come therefore unto me, and learn of the truth in you. ²The mind we share is shared by all our brothers, and as we see them truly they will be healed. ³Let your mind shine with mine upon their minds, and by our gratitude to them make them aware of the light in them. ⁴This light will shine back upon you and on the whole Sonship, because this is your proper gift to God. ⁵He will accept it and give it to the Sonship, because it is acceptable to Him and therefore to His Sons. ⁶This is true communion with the Holy Spirit, Who sees the altar of God in everyone, and by bringing it to your appreciation, He calls upon you to love God and His creation. ⁷You can appreciate the Sonship only as one. ⁸This is part of the law of creation, and therefore governs all thought. The Holy Spirit accepts only the truth of Love, Which is universally one and changeless. Thus He sees only Love in everyone and everything. This Love unites us with our Creator and everyone, without exception. When we join with the Holy Spirit and let Him interpret our perceptions on our behalf, we are joined with the Sonship. We are accepting the Self that is God’s one Son.

Today we offer our perceptions to the Holy Spirit for His interpretation. He will show us the unity of Love beyond all appearances of differences and conflict. We will find peace in the Heart of Love.
