Awakening to Our Life in Love

Dreams are perceptual temper tantrums, in which you literally scream, “I want it thus!” ²And thus it seems to be. ³And yet the dream cannot escape its origin. ⁴Anger and fear pervade it, and in an instant the illusion of satisfaction is invaded by the illusion of terror. ⁵For the dream of your ability to control reality by substituting a world that you prefer is terrifying. ⁶Your attempts to blot out reality are very fearful, but this you are not willing to accept. ⁷And so you substitute the fantasy that reality is fearful, not what you would do to it. ⁸And thus is guilt made real.

Dreams show you that you have the power to make a world as you would have it be, and that because you want it you see it. ²And while you see it you do not doubt that it is real. ³Yet here is a world, clearly within your mind, that seems to be outside. ⁴You do not respond to it as though you made it, nor do you realize that the emotions the dream produces must come from you. ⁵It is the figures in the dream and what they do that seem to make the dream. ⁶You do not realize that you are making them act out for you, for if you did the guilt would not be theirs, and the illusion of satisfaction would be gone. Our dreams of being a body living in a world of conflict is a self-deception so extreme that we believe the only way out is death. Yet death itself is a dream as well.

The Self God created one with Him cannot die, for It is one with His eternal Love. Love is our Reality. It never changes. We can awaken to this Reality by forgiving the wish to make a different reality which we think we can control.

This alternate reality is chaotic and unpredictable, despite our attempts to control it. We can awaken from this dream by being willing to accept the Holy Spirit’s help to see the Love in which we live.

Love is our true Reality. With Christ’s vision, we see the Reality of Love everywhere. We recognize denial of Love’s oneness as a call for Love. With His help, we answer these calls for Love with Love.

Finding Peace in the Love of God

What keeps the world in chains but your beliefs? ²And what can save the world except your Self? ³Belief is powerful indeed. ⁴The thoughts you hold are mighty, and illusions are as strong in their effects as is the truth.

…for anyone is free to change his mind, and all his thoughts change with it. ²Now the source of thought has shifted, for to change your mind means you have changed the source of all ideas you think or ever thought or yet will think. ³You free the past from what you thought before. ⁴You free the future from all ancient thoughts of seeking what you do not want to find.

The present now remains the only time. ²Here in the present is the world set free. ³For as you let the past be lifted and release the future from your ancient fears, you find escape and give it to the world.

The world is nothing in itself. ²Your mind must give it meaning. ³And what you behold upon it are your wishes, acted out so you can look on them and think them real.

There is no world apart from what you wish, and herein lies your ultimate release. ²Change but your mind on what you want to see, and all the world must change accordingly. ³Ideas leave not their source. (A Course in Miracles, W-132.1:1-4;2:1–3:3;4:1-3;5:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 132 Insights.)

Everyone is seeking happiness and peace of mind. But if we follow the ego, we are sent on wild chases that never bring us happiness or peace that lasts.

By the grace of God, we have been given another Guide Who leads us where lasting peace and happiness reside eternally. We are led to remembering the Reality of the Love in which we live. We are eternally safe in God’s Love and so we share His peace.

Joining in His Love brings us His joy as we extend His Love without limit. Today we remember to follow the Holy Spirit and let His interpretations of all our perceptions replace our own.

Remembering Our Unity in Love

³Let us turn to Him Who leads the way and makes our footsteps sure.

His is the only way to find the peace that God has given us. ²It is His way that everyone must travel in the end, because it is this ending God Himself appointed. ³In the dream of time it seems to be far off. ⁴And yet, in truth, it is already here; already serving us as gracious guidance in the way to go. ⁵Let us together follow in the way that truth points out to us. ⁶And let us be the leaders of our many brothers who are seeking for the way, but find it not.

And to this purpose let us dedicate our minds, directing all our thoughts to serve the function of salvation. ²Unto us the aim is given to forgive the world. ³It is the goal that God has given us. ⁴It is His ending to the dream we seek, and not our own. ⁵For all that we forgive we will not fail to recognize as part of God Himself. ⁶And thus His memory is given back, completely and complete.

It is our function to remember Him on earth, as it is given us to be His Own completion in reality. (A Course in Miracles, W-fl.in.1:3;2:1–4:1)

To remember our Father is to remember who we are. Our true Self is everything God is. He has given us all His peace, His joy, His Love. We are grateful He has given us the means to awaken to the truth that we are all united in His Love.

We dedicate today to following His Voice to guide us to fulfill the function He has given us. We welcome His help to see past our mistaken beliefs to the Presence of Love that surrounds us. We want to remember our unity in Love.

Using the Body to Be a Blessing in the World

My body is a wholly neutral thing.

I am a Son of God. ²And can I be another thing as well? ³Did God create the mortal and corruptible? ⁴What use has God’s beloved Son for what must die? ⁵And yet a neutral thing does not see death, for thoughts of fear are not invested there, nor is a mockery of love bestowed upon it. ⁶Its neutrality protects it while it has a use. ⁷And afterwards, without a purpose, it is laid aside. ⁸It is not sick nor old nor hurt. ⁹It is but functionless, unneeded and cast off. ¹⁰Let me not see it more than this today; of service for a while and fit to serve, to keep its usefulness while it can serve, and then to be replaced for greater good.

My body, Father, cannot be Your Son. ²And what is not created cannot be sinful nor sinless; neither good nor bad. ³Let me, then, use this dream to help Your plan that we awaken from all dreams we made. (A Course in Miracles, W-294. See also ACIM Lesson 294 Insights.)

Like our Father, our true Self is Love and nothing else. In the dream we seem to have a body. It has no motivation of its own. Our mind gives it direction for what to say and do and feel. If it is the ego part of our mind that gives it direction, it seems to be capable of harm. It attacks itself with sickness or others with words or actions.

Our true Self directs the body to express Love in the dream. Its expression brings with it awareness of our unity as God’s one Son. It brings blessing, happiness and peace. Today we dedicate to using the body for Love’s extension in the dream.

Remembering Our Eternal Unity in Love

Fear binds the world. Forgiveness sets it free.

The ego makes illusions. ²Truth undoes its evil dreams by shining them away. ³Truth never makes attack. ⁴It merely is. ⁵And by its presence is the mind recalled from fantasies, awaking to the real. ⁶Forgiveness bids this presence enter in, and take its rightful place within the mind. ⁷Without forgiveness is the mind in chains, believing in its own futility. ⁸Yet with forgiveness does the light shine through the dream of darkness, offering it hope, and giving it the means to realize the freedom that is its inheritance.

We would not bind the world again today. ²Fear holds it prisoner. ³And yet Your Love has given us the means to set it free. ⁴Father, we would release it now. ⁵For as we offer freedom, it is given us. ⁶And we would not remain as prisoners, while You are holding freedom out to us. Forgiveness is the antidote for every fearful perception. Fear only comes with belief that separation is real. That idea manifests in many forms — in jealousy, depression, frustration, irritation, guilt or rage. Yet none of these need to be in our experience. Forgiveness shines away these dark thoughts.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s help to see the truth that Love is all that is real. As we accept His help, we see the Love that is the truth in our brothers. We experience the joy of giving Love to all and receiving what we give. We find peace in Love’s changelessness. We remember that we are eternally united with our Father.

Christ’s Vision Brings the Joy of Extending Love

Love is extension. ²To withhold the smallest gift is not to know love’s purpose. ³Love offers everything forever. ⁴Hold back but one belief, one offering, and love is gone, because you asked a substitute to take its place. ⁵And now must war, the substitute for peace, come with the one alternative that you can choose for love. ⁶Your choosing it has given it all the reality it seems to have.

Beliefs will never openly attack each other because conflicting outcomes are impossible. ²But an unrecognized belief is a decision to war in secret, where the results of conflict are kept unknown and never brought to reason, to be considered sensible or not. ³And many senseless outcomes have been reached, and meaningless decisions have been made and kept hidden, to become beliefs now given power to direct all subsequent decisions. ⁴Mistake you not the power of these hidden warriors to disrupt your peace. ⁵For it is at their mercy while you decide to leave it there. ⁶The secret enemies of peace, your least decision to choose attack instead of love, unrecognized and swift to challenge you to combat and to violence far more inclusive than you think, are there by your election. ⁷Do not deny their presence nor their terrible results. ⁸All that can be denied is their reality, but not their outcome. The process of forgiveness begins with recognizing there is a need to forgive. The symptoms of the need are our signposts — any disturbance of our peace of mind. We can use these signposts as reminders to be mindful of our thoughts. Then ask of the Holy Spirit, “What is this for?” Then pause and wait to receive His insight.

He will help us recognize the unreality of our belief and show us the reality of Love beyond the appearance that is disturbing our peace of mind. As we accept Christ’s vision, fear, anger and guilt are replaced by the joy of extending Love.

Claiming Our Inheritance of Perfect Love

God, being Love, is also happiness.

²Let me remember love is happiness, and nothing else brings joy. ³And so I choose to entertain no substitutes for love.

I seek but what belongs to me in truth.

²Love is my heritage, and with it joy. ³These are the gifts my Father gave to me. ⁴I would accept all that is mine in truth. (A Course in Miracles, W-117.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 117 Insights.)

We claim our inheritance with forgiveness. Every judgment denies God’s gift of Love’s perfect oneness. Our judgments are always reflections of what we believe we are — a separate identity in a world of separation. This identity is false because we were created to remain eternally one with our Father. His happiness and peace are ours eternally.

We choose to forgive this false image by asking the Holy Spirit to help us see with Christ’s vision. His vision always shows us the Love or call for Love every brother offers us. With this vision, we naturally join with Love or answer calls for Love with Love. This is our mission for today.
