Accepting Our Shared Identity as Love

When truth has come it does not stay a while, to disappear or change to something else. ²It does not shift and alter in its form, nor come and go and go and come again. ³It stays exactly as it always was, to be depended on in every need, and trusted with a perfect trust in all the seeming difficulties and the doubts that the appearances the world presents engender. ⁴They will merely blow away, when truth corrects the errors in your mind.

When truth has come it harbors in its wings the gift of perfect constancy, and love which does not falter in the face of pain, but looks beyond it, steadily and sure. ²Here is the gift of healing, for the truth needs no defense, and therefore no attack is possible. ³Illusions can be brought to truth to be corrected.

…make your pledge to let His function be fulfilled through you. ³To share His function is to share His joy. ⁴His confidence is with you, as you say:

⁵Truth will correct all errors in my mind, and I will rest in Him Who is my Self.

⁶Then let Him lead you gently to the truth, which will envelop you and give you peace so deep and tranquil that you will return to the familiar world reluctantly.

And yet you will be glad to look again upon this world. ²For you will bring with you the promise of the changes which the truth that goes with you will carry to the world. (A Course in Miracles, W-107.4:1–5:3;9:2–10:2. See also ACIM Lesson 107 Insights.)

We are not a body living in a world of other bodies. Our true Self is Love. Because only Love is real, there is nothing that can threaten It with change. Love is eternally at peace in the certainty of Its changelessness. As we let the truth of Love’s oneness correct our mistaken beliefs, we rest in the perfect peace of the Love that is our Identity.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us see beyond bodies, and what they seem to say and do, to our shared Identity in Love.

Recognizing the Love We Are

The Christ in you inhabits not a body. ²Yet He is in you. ³And thus it must be that you are not within a body. ⁴What is within you cannot be outside. ⁵And it is certain that you cannot be apart from what is at the very center of your life. ⁶What gives you life cannot be housed in death. ⁷No more can you. ⁸Christ is within a frame of Holiness whose only purpose is that He may be made manifest to those who know Him not, that He may call to them to come to Him and see Him where they thought their bodies were. ⁹Then will their bodies melt away, that they may frame His Holiness in them.

No one who carries Christ in him can fail to recognize Him everywhere. ²Except in bodies. ³And as long as he believes he is in a body, where he thinks he is He cannot be. ⁴And so he carries Him unknowingly, and does not make Him manifest.

The body needs no healing. ²But the mind that thinks it is a body is sick indeed! ³And it is here that Christ sets forth the remedy. ⁴His purpose folds the body in His light, and fills it with the Holiness that shines from Him. ⁵And nothing that the body says or does but makes Him manifest. ⁶To those who know Him not it carries Him in gentleness and love, to heal their minds. ⁷Such is the mission that your brother has for you. ⁸And such it must be that your mission is for him. (A Course in Miracles, T-25.in.1:1–2:4;3. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

To accept Christ as our Identity is to accept the Self that God created as His one Son. Thus the Christ is in everyone. He is not limited by an image of a body.

As we let Love be our Guide to show us Its Presence everywhere, we become messengers of Love. We offer Love to all in recognition that the Love in everyone is the same Love that we are.

Where there is a call for Love, we answer with Love. We recognize the call is coming from a mind that has forgotten its Source. As we answer with Love, we strengthen our own recognition of the Love that is our true Self. In this joining, our mind is no longer limited by images of bodies and an outside world. In gratitude we join in the eternal flow of Love extending to Itself.

Remembering Our Unity in Love

Love is the way I walk in gratitude.

⁷Your gratitude is due to Him alone Who made all cause of sorrow disappear throughout the world.  …Who offers you the certain means whereby all pain is healed, and suffering replaced with laughter and with happiness.

Walk, then, in gratitude the way of love. ²For hatred is forgotten when we lay comparisons aside. ³What more remains as obstacles to peace? ⁴The fear of God is now undone at last, and we forgive without comparing. ⁵Thus we cannot choose to overlook some things, and yet retain some other things still locked away as “sins.” ⁶When your forgiveness is complete you will have total gratitude, for you will see that everything has earned the right to love by being loving, even as your Self.

Our gratitude will pave the way to Him, and shorten our learning time by more than you could ever dream of. ²Gratitude goes hand in hand with love, and where one is the other must be found. ³For gratitude is but an aspect of the Love which is the Source of all creation. (A Course in Miracles, W-195.1:7,2:2;8;10:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 195 Insights.)

Today we seek to lay comparisons aside. The wish for specialness always compares one thing with another. Differences define specialness.

The vision of Christ sees only Love. Love, being one, has no differences so comparisons do not occur in Love. Love seeks only Itself to join in the eternal giving and receiving of Love.  Gratitude fills our heart, for we remember our oneness with our Father and all our brothers. We are all united in the one Self that is God’s Son. We are grateful that this is so.

Giving Perception a New Purpose

A co-creator with the Father must have a Son. ²Yet must this Son have been created like Himself. ³A perfect being, all-encompassing and all-encompassed, nothing to add and nothing taken from; not born of size nor place nor time, nor held to limits or uncertainties of any kind. ⁴Here do the means and end unite as one, nor does this one have any end at all. ⁵All this is true, and yet it has no meaning to anyone who still retains one unlearned lesson in his memory, one thought with purpose still uncertain, or one wish with a divided aim.

⁵It is essential it be kept in mind that all perception still is upside down until its purpose has been understood. ⁶Perception does not seem to be a means. ⁷And it is this that makes it hard to grasp the whole extent to which it must depend on what you see it for. ⁸Perception seems to teach you what you see. ⁹Yet it but witnesses to what you taught. ¹⁰It is the outward picture of a wish; an image that you wanted to be true.

…it is given you to make a different choice, and use perception for a different purpose. ¹³And what you see will serve that purpose well, and prove its own reality to you. (A Course in Miracles, T-24.VII.7;8:5-10;11:12-13. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Here we see the role perception plays in maintaining the seeming reality of this world. It is also clear, here, that perception is determined by the mind. The body is an instrument used to support the mind’s purpose for perception.

We are being called to give a different purpose for perception. With the Holy Spirit as our Guide, perception is directed to look upon the presence of Love. With this vision, we see our brothers no longer as adversaries but as our dearest friends. They reflect back to us the Love we are, and unite us with our Father.

As this purpose is accepted, we experience the peace and joy of our unity in Love. We join in Its eternal giving and receiving of Love. No adversaries of any kind are perceived. We recognize our invulnerability in our Home in the Heart of Love.

The Practice That Leads to Real Freedom

Would you be hostage to the ego or host to God? ²You will accept only whom you invite. ³You are free to determine who shall be your guest, and how long he shall remain with you. ⁴Yet this is not real freedom, for it still depends on how you see it. ⁵The Holy Spirit is there, although He cannot help you without your invitation. ⁶And the ego is nothing, whether you invite it in or not. ⁷Real freedom depends on welcoming reality, and of your guests only the Holy Spirit is real. ⁸Know, then, Who abides with you merely by recognizing what is there already, and do not be satisfied with imaginary comforters, for the Comforter of God is in you. (A Course in Miracles, T-11.II.7. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego tells us that judgment is necessary to keep us safe. This could only be true if there were outside forces capable of harming us. Yet, if only Love is real and all encompassing, there are no outside forces. The truth in us is one with all. There is nothing else.

The way to freedom and peace of mind is to turn over all our judgments to the Holy Spirit. He will sort out the true from the false. He dismisses the false, knowing they are nothing. As we accept His help, we learn to see the presence of Love everywhere. To be host to God, we need to dismiss our judgments and accept His judgment that only Love is real. This is real freedom.

Freeing Ourselves to Receive Perfect Happiness

…sin is not real, and all that you believe must come from sin will never happen, for it has no cause. ³Accept Atonement with an open mind, which cherishes no lingering belief that you have made a devil of God’s Son. ⁴There is no sin. ⁵We practice with this thought as often as we can today, because it is the basis for today’s idea.

God’s Will for you is perfect happiness because there is no sin, and suffering is causeless. ²Joy is just, and pain is but the sign you have misunderstood yourself. ³Fear not the Will of God. ⁴But turn to it in confidence that it will set you free from all the consequences sin has wrought in feverish imagination. ⁵Say:

⁶God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.
⁷There is no sin; it has no consequence.

³You are set on freedom’s road, and now today’s idea brings wings to speed you on, and hope to go still faster to the waiting goal of peace. ⁴There is no sin. ⁵Remember this today, and tell yourself as often as you can:

⁶God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.
⁷This is the truth, because there is no sin.
(W-101.5:2–6:7;7:3-7)

The belief that we are separate individuals in a world of separate images is belief in sin. If we were indeed separate, there would be “others” capable of intruding on our space or harming us. When we identify with a body we look upon a world where there is potential harm which we would defend against. Fear is inevitable with this belief. But it is a belief that could never be true. This belief makes lasting happiness seem impossible and unreal.

The fact that separation is not real means lasting happiness is achievable because it is God’s Will. We need only forgive the mistaken beliefs that support the wish for separation. With forgiveness, we free our mind to accept God’s Will for us, which is perfect happiness. He shared His joy and Love with us when He created His Son.

Today we reinforce this thought. We are worthy of happiness. There is no cause that can prevent us from experiencing perfect happiness, except our denial of God’s gift. We are grateful for the Holy Spirit Whom we can call upon for help to forgive our fear-based thoughts. With His help, we free ourselves to be as God created us.

Our Unbreakable Link with Our Father

Christ is God’s Son as He created Him. ²He is the Self we share, uniting us with one another, and with God as well. ³He is the Thought which still abides within the Mind that is His Source. ⁴He has not left His holy home, nor lost the innocence in which He was created. ⁵He abides unchanged forever in the Mind of God.

Christ is the link that keeps you one with God, and guarantees that separation is no more than an illusion of despair, for hope forever will abide in Him. ²Your mind is part of His, and His of yours. ³He is the part in which God’s Answer lies; where all decisions are already made, and dreams are over. ⁴He remains untouched by anything the body’s eyes perceive. ⁵For though in Him His Father placed the means for your salvation, yet does He remain the Self Who, like His Father, knows no sin.

Home of the Holy Spirit, and at home in God alone, does Christ remain at peace within the Heaven of your holy mind. ²This is the only part of you that has reality in truth. ³The rest is dreams. ⁴Yet will these dreams be given unto Christ, to fade before His glory and reveal your holy Self, the Christ, to you at last. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.6.1:1–3:4)

Christ is a symbol representing our unbreakable link with our Father. It also represents our true Self, forever one with our Creator. The vision of Christ in us sees a forgiven world, where images of separation are dismissed as meaningless. We remain as God created us.

The Holy Spirit is our Guide to help us remember that the Christ our true Self. Today we practice offering all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit for His help to see with Christ’s vision. Under His guidance, we learn to look past images of the world to the Light of Love that unites us with our Father.
