Willingness to Accept the Gift of Peace

⁸If you will accept the fact that I am with you, you are denying the world and accepting God. ⁹My will is His, and your decision to hear me is the decision to hear His Voice and abide in His Will. ¹⁰As God sent me to you so will I send you to others. ¹¹And I will go to them with you, so we can teach them peace and union.

⁴If you want to have [peace] of me, you must give it. ⁵Healing does not come from anyone else. ⁶You must accept guidance from within. ⁷The guidance must be what you want, or it will be meaningless to you. ⁸That is why healing is a collaborative venture. ⁹I can tell you what to do, but you must collaborate by believing that I know what you should do. ¹⁰Only then will your mind choose to follow me.

⁶The decision to unite must be unequivocal, or the mind itself is divided and not whole. ⁷Your mind is the means by which you determine your own condition, because mind is the mechanism of decision. …¹¹All things are possible through our joint decision… (A Course in Miracles, T-8.IV.3:8-11;4:4-10;5:6-7,11. The world we see is the effect of our decision. We see a world of conflict, which results in guilt and fear, because we want specialness. Specialness depends on perception of differences and the need to judge what is “right” or “wrong”.

To have peace, we must be willing to accept our unity in God’s Love. His Voice is given us to help us learn to recognize that specialness is not in our best interest. Our judgments deny the reality of Love. Today we focus on willingness to listen to the guidance of His Voice because we want His gift of peace.

Complete Forgiveness Reveals the Real World

The real world holds a counterpart for each unhappy thought reflected in your world; a sure correction for the sights of fear and sounds of battle which your world contains. ²The real world shows a world seen differently, through quiet eyes and with a mind at peace. ³Nothing but rest is there. ⁴There are no cries of pain and sorrow heard, for nothing there remains outside forgiveness. ⁵And the sights are gentle. ⁶Only happy sights and sounds can reach the mind that has forgiven itself.

The real world is the symbol that the dream of sin and guilt is over, and God’s Son no longer sleeps. ²His waking eyes perceive the sure reflection of his Father’s Love; the certain promise that he is redeemed. ³The real world signifies the end of time, for its perception makes time purposeless.

…as we look upon a world forgiven, it is [God] Who calls to us and comes to take us home, reminding us of our Identity which our forgiveness has restored to us. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.8.2;4;5:4)

The world we experience reflects what we believe we are. If we are not happy and at peace, there is some belief we are holding that needs to be forgiven. At any time that we are not at peace, we need to ask, “What is this for?”

The ego answers with justification for why we should be disturbed. If we ask for the Holy Spirit’s answer, He will help us give it a new purpose that leads to forgiveness of our mistaken belief. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s purpose, we let Love’s Light into our mind. We move a step closer to the complete forgiveness that shows us the real world.

Resting in the Peaceful Present

The miracle enables you to see your brother without his past, and so perceive him as born again. ²His errors are all past, and by perceiving him without them you are releasing him. ³And since his past is yours, you share in this release. ⁴Let no dark cloud out of your past obscure him from you, for truth lies only in the present, and you will find it if you seek it there.

Judgment and condemnation are behind you, and unless you bring them with you, you will see that you are free of them. ²Look lovingly upon the present, for it holds the only things that are forever true. …⁵The present is before time was, and will be when time is no more. ⁶In it are all things that are eternal, and they are one.

Now is the time of salvation, for now is the release from time. ²Reach out to all your brothers, and touch them with the touch of Christ. ³In timeless union with them is your continuity, unbroken because it is wholly shared. ⁴God’s guiltless Son is only light. ⁵There is no darkness in him anywhere, for he is whole. ⁶Call all your brothers to witness to his wholeness, as I am calling you to join with me. ⁷Each voice has a part in the song of redemption, the hymn of gladness and thanksgiving for the light to the Creator of light. ⁸The holy light that shines forth from God’s Son is the witness that his light is of his Father. The Christ in us is God’s one Son. It is our Self, wholly loving and complete in Love’s oneness. To touch our brother with the touch of Christ is to recognize our unity with him in the Love that unites us with our Creator. This unity is eternal, now and forever.

Now is the time to release the past. As we forgive, we release the burden of carrying beliefs in the past which have no reality. As we let go of false beliefs, our minds are cleared of thoughts that blind us to the truth that is everywhere to be seen now.

We can relax in the now moment. Free of the past, we have no fear and no guilt. We rest in the real world of Love. All judgment is dismissed and we rest in the peace and joy of Heaven.

Knowing Our True Identity

I am the holy Son of God Himself.

Here is your declaration of release from bondage of the world. ²And here as well is all the world released. ³You do not see what you have done by giving to the world the role of jailer to the Son of God.

Yet what is it except a game you play in which Identity can be denied? ²You are as God created you. ³All else but this one thing is folly to believe. ⁴In this one thought is everyone set free. ⁵In this one truth are all illusions gone. ⁶In this one fact is sinlessness proclaimed to be forever part of everything, the central core of its existence and its guarantee of immortality.

But let today’s idea find a place among your thoughts and you have risen far above the world, and all the worldly thoughts that hold it prisoner. ²And from this place of safety and escape you will return and set it free. ³For he who can accept his true Identity is truly saved. ⁴And his salvation is the gift he gives to everyone, in gratitude to Him Who pointed out the way to happiness that changed his whole perspective of the world. While we believe we are a body, we are suffering from a misplaced identity. We have disowned our true Identity by choosing a false one that seems to give us a special place in a universe of illusions. Another word for this universe is hell. It is a place where everyone at some point suffers and dies. This is not a world we truly want. We have paid a high price to have something we could call our own.

Today we are assured that not only is this false universe not real, it does not exist and never has in truth. By claiming our Identity as God’s Son, we are accepting His gift of all of His Love with no limits nor reservations. It is the gift of Heaven.

We have help to reclaim our true Identity from the Holy Spirit in our mind. As we are willing to question our perceptions and ask for His help to reinterpret our perceptions, we will learn to see our true Identity reflected back to us in everyone we look upon. They are all a part of our one Identity. As we see them truly, we will know our true Identity.

Willingness to Forgive

What could you want forgiveness cannot give? ²Do you want peace? ³Forgiveness offers it. ⁴Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? ⁵Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of sure protection always? ⁶Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset?

All this forgiveness offers you, and more. ²It sparkles on your eyes as you awake, and gives you joy with which to meet the day. ³It soothes your forehead while you sleep, and rests upon your eyelids so you see no dreams of fear and evil, malice and attack. ⁴And when you wake again, it offers you another day of happiness and peace. ⁵All this forgiveness offers you, and more.

²Today it will be given you to feel the peace forgiveness offers, and the joy the lifting of the veil holds out to you.

Before the light you will receive today the world will fade until it disappears, and you will see another world arise you have no words to picture. ²Now we walk directly into light, and we receive the gifts that have been held in store for us since time began, kept waiting for today.

Forgiveness offers everything you want. ²Today all things you want are given you. ³Let not your gifts recede throughout the day, as you return again to meet a world of shifting change and bleak appearances. ⁴Retain your gifts in clear awareness as you see the changeless in the heart of change; the light of truth behind appearances. Everyone in this world wants what the first paragraph in this lesson describes. Here we are given the means to have our deepest wishes fulfilled. One simple choice: To forgive the world for all we believe it is.

This simple choice is not easy because part of our mind believes we want what this world seems to offer. That part is competitive and wants to have more of at least something than anyone else. The forms of this wish may be such things as power, wealth, beauty, status, possessions and even illness. They are all forms of specialness. All of these wishes seek for differences. But differences cannot exist in the oneness of Love’s Reality. Thus they deny Love.

Because our mind is split, we need the help of the Holy Spirit to lead us out of our mistaken beliefs and let them go. When we are willing to consider that our interpretation of our perception may be wrong, we open our mind to the Holy Spirit’s healing Light. His vision will help us see beyond our misperceptions to the reality of Love, which offers all we truly want. Today we are willing to open our mind to the Holy Spirit’s vision. We are willing to forgive.

Accepting the Guide to Joy

I choose the joy of God instead of pain.

²Pain is my own idea. ³It is not a Thought of God, but one I thought apart from Him and from His Will. ⁴His Will is joy, and only joy for His beloved Son. ⁵And that I choose, instead of what I made.

⁶I am not a body. ⁷I am free.
⁸For I am still as God created me.”

If we are not experiencing supreme joy and deep peace, we are identifying with a false image of our identity. This identity is of our own making. It is not what God created as His Son, our true Identity.

This fact is an important benchmark we can use to guide us to turn to the Holy Spirit for His help. He knows that God wills for us all of His joy and peace. Nothing else exists. The Holy Spirit’s mission is to teach us that we are not what we made up. We live in and are the Love of God.

With Holy Spirit’s help, we will learn to let the vision of our true Self show us the Love that is our brothers and overlook the images that foster guilt and fear. Today we practice accepting the Holy Spirit’s help to learn that we are Love and nothing else.

Expressions of Love Lead Us Home

The world as you perceive it cannot have been created by the Father, for the world is not as you see it. ²God created only the eternal, and everything you see is perishable. ³Therefore, there must be another world that you do not see.

Every loving thought that the Son of God ever had is eternal. ²The loving thoughts his mind perceives in this world are the world’s only reality. ³They are still perceptions, because he still believes that he is separate. ⁴Yet they are eternal because they are loving. ⁵And being loving they are like the Father, and therefore cannot die. ⁶The real world can actually be perceived. ⁷All that is necessary is a willingness to perceive nothing else. ⁸For if you perceive both good and evil, you are accepting both the false and the true and making no distinction between them.

…everything true is like Him. ⁹Perceiving only the real world will lead you to the real Heaven, because it will make you capable of understanding it.

⁹The real world is all that the Holy Spirit has saved for you out of what you have made, and to perceive only this is salvation, because it is the recognition that reality is only what is true. (A Course in Miracles, T-11.VII.1:1-3;2;3:8-9;4:9. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Only Love is real. The real world is made up of all expressions of Love in a world where perceptions seem to exist. Thus the real world is a bridge to heaven from a mind that believes perceptions are necessary because we believe in a world of observer and the observed. To perceive only the real world, we must give up our penchant for judging things as good or bad.

The only meaningful judgment is between real and unreal. In the ego’s thought system this judgment is impossible. We must rely on the Holy Spirit to make this judgment on our behalf. The Holy Spirit is with us in every moment.

As we learn to rely on Him for all our interpretations, we will let go of the meaningless distinctions the ego makes. With His help, we will dismiss the unreal as meaningless and perceive only the Love in which we live. Loving thoughts and deeds become radiant stars that lead the way to remembering Heaven, our true Home.
