The Practice That Brings Us Joy

A dream of judgment came into the mind that God created perfect as Himself. …⁴It is a dream of judgment. ⁵So must he judge not, and he will waken.

The real world still is but a dream. …what was once a dream of judgment now has changed into a dream where all is joy, because that is the purpose that it has. ⁷Only forgiving dreams can enter here, for time is almost over.

³Your self-betrayal must result in fear, for fear is judgment, leading surely to the frantic search for idols and for death.

Forgiving dreams remind you that you live in safety and have not attacked yourself.… ³Forgiving dreams are kind to everyone who figures in the dream. ⁴And so they bring the dreamer full release from dreams of fear. Judgment is the glue that binds the ego dream of separation in our mind. It permeates every aspect of the life we experience in this dream. We have opinions about right and wrong, good and bad, myriad differences that distinguish one form from another. All these are judgments which have no place in the unity of God’s Love.

As we learn to relinquish our judgments, the Light of Love dawns upon our mind. We begin to see the Love that is common to all of us. This Love binds us together as one in all of Reality. Only Love is real. This fact awakens in our mind as we learn to forgive, to let go of our judgments.

Today, again, we practice letting Love decide on our behalf. Love sees only Itself everywhere, for It sees only Reality. As we accept Love’s decisions, we experience the joy that is part of Love’s oneness. With this practice, our day will be filled with joy.

Learning to Let Love Decide

You have the right to all the universe; to perfect peace, complete deliverance from all effects of sin, and to the life eternal, joyous and complete in every way, as God appointed for His holy Son. ²This is the only justice Heaven knows, and all the Holy Spirit brings to earth. ³Your special function shows you nothing else but perfect justice can prevail for you. ⁴And you are safe from vengeance in all forms. ⁵The world deceives, but it cannot replace God’s justice with a version of its own. ⁶For only love is just, and can perceive what justice must accord the Son of God. ⁷Let love decide, and never fear that you, in your unfairness, will deprive yourself of what God’s justice has allotted you. When we believe perceptions of differences are real, we have put the ego in charge of our mind. The ego is the denial of Love. With it in charge of our mind, our decisions will always bring with them fear and guilt and a sense of loss. This is not God’s Will for us.

If we let Love decide instead of Its denial, we experience the holiness that God gave His one Son. Love sees only Love, for only Love is real. Love is universal, all encompassing and changeless. There are no differences in the oneness of Love. When we let Love decide, the peace and joy of God fill our mind. We know the oneness of Heaven.

While we still accept mistaken beliefs that deny the Love in which we live, we need to accept the Holy Spirit’s help. He will teach us to see the truth beyond the illusions of lovelessness. With the Holy Spirit in our mind and beside us, we journey on the path to awaken to Love.

Being Willing to Accept the Love We Are

You who hold your brother’s hand also hold mine, for when you joined each other you were not alone. ²Do you believe that I would leave you in the darkness that you agreed to leave with me? ³In your relationship is this world’s light. ⁴And fear must disappear before you now. ⁵Be tempted not to snatch away the gift of faith you offered to your brother. ⁶You will succeed only in frightening yourself. ⁷The gift is given forever, for God Himself received it. ⁸You cannot take it back. ⁹You have accepted God. ¹⁰The holiness of your relationship is established in Heaven. ¹¹You do not understand what you accepted, but remember that your understanding is not necessary. ¹²All that was necessary was merely the wish to understand. ¹³That wish was the desire to be holy. ¹⁴The Will of God is granted you. ¹⁵For you desire the only thing you ever had, or ever were.

Each instant that we spend together will teach you that this goal is possible, and will strengthen your desire to reach it. ²And in your desire lies its accomplishment. ³Your desire is now in complete accord with all the power of the Holy Spirit’s Will. ⁴No little, faltering footsteps that you may take can separate your desire from His Will and from His strength. ⁵I hold your hand as surely as you agreed to take your brother’s. ⁶You will not separate, for I stand with you and walk with you in your advance to truth. ⁷And where we go we carry God with us. Our innate desire is to be as God created us — to be Love and nothing else. The ego’s goal is to deny Love. It is afraid of Love because in the oneness of Love, there is no place for specialness.

Today let us join together in the willingness to be the Love we were created to be. The Will of God supports this willingness with all God’s strength. This support is ever present in our mind. The Holy Spirit walks with us, leading us into the Light in which we awaken to the Self God created as His Son.

Giving Allegiance to the Love of God

Now do we come to Him with but His Word upon our minds and hearts, and wait for Him to take the step to us that He has told us, through His Voice, He would not fail to take when we invited Him.

⁵Sit silently and wait upon your Father. ⁶He has willed to come to you when you have recognized it is your will He do so.

²We have found the way He chose for us, and made the choice to follow it as He would have us go. ³His Hand has held us up. ⁴His Thoughts have lit the darkness of our minds. ⁵His Love has called to us unceasingly since time began.

…we need only call to God, and all temptations disappear. ³Instead of words, we need but feel His Love. ⁴Instead of prayers, we need but call His Name. ⁵Instead of judging, we need but be still and let all things be healed. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.in.4:1;5:5-6;8:2-5;)

The world we experience as a body is the effect of choosing to give our allegiance to the ego — the thought of separation. We can change our allegiance. Our call to God is the choice to give our allegiance to our Creator. It is the choice to accept His Will is ours, His Love is ours.

Because the Mind of God is singular in Its focus on Love and nothing else, we open to God’s Will with a quiet mind. Peace is an attribute of Love. As we are willing to quiet our mind, we open to His Voice to guide us in the way of Love. We choose to welcome God today with a quiet mind and an open heart. Thus we will open to the one Self we are as created by God.

Dispelling Barriers to Love’s Presence

Let this day be a day of stillness and of quiet listening. ²Your Father wills you hear His Word today. ³He calls to you from deep within your mind where He abides. ⁴Hear Him today. ⁵No peace is possible until His Word is heard around the world; until your mind, in quiet listening, accepts the message that the world must hear to usher in the quiet time of peace.

This world will change through you. ²No other means can save it, for God’s plan is simply this: The Son of God is free to save himself, given the Word of God to be his Guide, forever in his mind and at his side to lead him surely to his Father’s house by his own will, forever free as God’s. ³He is not led by force, but only love. ⁴He is not judged, but only sanctified.

In stillness we will hear God’s Voice today without intrusion of our petty thoughts, without our personal desires, and without all judgment of His holy Word. ²We will not judge ourselves today, for what we are can not be judged. ³We stand apart from all the judgments which the world has laid upon the Son of God. ⁴It knows him not. ⁵Today we will not listen to the world, but wait in silence for the Word of God. Quiet listening is the key to receiving the Holy Spirit’s lessons which will help us remember we are God’s Son. These lessons teach us how to look past appearances in the world. Appearances only appear in illusions of form. Beyond appearances, the oneness of Love is seen everywhere.

Love is changeless. Because we were created as Love by Love, our true Self is equally changeless. Our true Self remains united with the true Self of every brother. Nothing else exists. As we learn to let go of the meaning we have given appearances, we clear away the barriers to Love’s Presence. We recognize we are one Self. There is no distance between us. In the stillness we are at peace.

Claiming Our Safety

Deep within you is everything that is perfect, ready to radiate through you and out into the world. ²It will cure all sorrow and pain and fear and loss because it will heal the mind that thought these things were real, and suffered out of its allegiance to them.

You can never be deprived of your perfect holiness because its Source goes with you wherever you go. ²You can never suffer because the Source of all joy goes with you wherever you go. ³You can never be alone because the Source of all life goes with you wherever you go. ⁴Nothing can destroy your peace of mind because God goes with you wherever you go.

It is quite possible to reach God. ²In fact it is very easy, because it is the most natural thing in the world. ³You might even say it is the only natural thing in the world. ⁴The way will open, if you believe that it is possible. ⁵This exercise can bring very startling results even the first time it is attempted, and sooner or later it is always successful.

You can indeed afford to laugh at fear thoughts, remembering that God goes with you wherever you go. (A Course in Miracles, W-41.3–4;8:1-5;10:1. See also ACIM Lesson 41 Insights.)

Sadness, depression, fear and guilt are symptoms which tell us that we have put the ego in charge of our mind. The thought of separation, which we experience as the ego, is not real. It is not our identity. But our belief and allegiance to the ego make it seem like our identity.

But we can change our choice. We can choose to accept our Identity as Love as God created It. This true Identity is all that is real. This Identity remains eternal united with our Creator. It is why God goes with us wherever we go. Because Love is the only power, we have nothing to fear. God’s strength is our strength. Love’s changeless oneness is invulnerable. As His Son, we share this invulnerability.

As we remind ourselves today that God goes with us wherever we go, we are claiming our true strength and perfect safety.

Being a Messenger of Light

I will there be light.

³The will you share with God has all the power of creation in it. ⁴The ego’s idle wishes are unshared, and therefore have no power at all. ⁵Its wishes are not idle in the sense that they can make a world of illusions in which your belief can be very strong. ⁶But they are idle indeed in terms of creation. ⁷They make nothing that is real.

Idle wishes and grievances are partners or co-makers in picturing the world you see. ²The wishes of the ego gave rise to it, and the ego’s need for grievances, which are necessary to maintain [the world], peoples it with figures that seem to attack you and call for “righteous” judgment. ³These figures become the middlemen the ego employs to traffic in grievances. ⁴[Grievances] stand between your awareness and your brothers’ reality. ⁵Beholding them, you do not know your brothers or your Self.

Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. ²The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. ³Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. ⁴Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light. The greatest gift we can give our brother or our self is true forgiveness. Our self and our brother’s self are one and the same. True forgiveness dismisses the meaning we have given the forms in the world, revealing the Light of Love that joins us all in oneness.

Our inner Teacher is always ready to show us the truth in our brother. With His help, we learn to see past our interpretations of the world. As we accept His lessons, we become messengers of Light in the world.
