Willingness to Let Go of False Beliefs

There are no laws but God’s. ²Dismiss all foolish magical beliefs today, and hold your mind in silent readiness to hear the Voice that speaks the truth to you. ³You will be listening to One Who says there is no loss under the laws of God. ⁴Payment is neither given nor received. ⁵Exchange cannot be made; there are no substitutes; and nothing is replaced by something else. ⁶God’s laws forever give and never take.

Hear Him Who tells you this, and realize how foolish are the “laws” you thought upheld the world you thought you saw. ²Then listen further. ³He will tell you more. ⁴About the Love your Father has for you. ⁵About the endless joy He offers you. ⁶About His yearning for His only Son, created as His channel for creation; denied to Him by his belief in hell.

Let us today open God’s channels to Him, and let His Will extend through us to Him. ²Thus is creation endlessly increased. ³His Voice will speak of this to us, as well as of the joys of Heaven which His laws keep limitless forever. The Will of God that extends through us is the eternal extension of Love to Love. That is our function as His Son. Fulfillment and joy overflow as we accept the Will we share with God.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us recognize the false beliefs that interfere with the flow of Love through us to the world. We offer these beliefs to Him to be healed. Our part is to be willing to let them go. He will do the rest. With His help, we will forgive ourselves for our mistakes and join in the eternal flow of Love to Itself. We will remember the Love in which we live.

Love Is Our Only Reality

I am as God created me.

Today we continue with the one idea which brings complete salvation; the one statement which makes all forms of temptation powerless; the one thought which renders the ego silent and entirely undone. ²You are as God created you. ³The sounds of this world are still, the sights of this world disappear, and all the thoughts that this world ever held are wiped away forever by this one idea. ⁴Here is salvation accomplished. ⁵Here is sanity restored.

True light is strength, and strength is sinlessness. ²If you remain as God created you, you must be strong and light must be in you. ³He Who ensured your sinlessness must be the guarantee of strength and light as well. ⁴You are as God created you.

⁵Now try to reach the Son of God in you. ⁶This is the Self that never sinned, nor made an image to replace reality. ⁷This is the Self that never left Its home in God to walk the world uncertainly. ⁸This is the Self that knows no fear, nor could conceive of loss or suffering or death.

…be sure to respond to anyone who seems to irritate you with these words:

⁶You are as God created you.

God created His Son like Himself. Like Him we, His Son, are Love and nothing else. Love sees only Love, for nothing else is real. Love is our only reality. It is our Life and our Identity. Its strength is ours. It has no opposite. It does not judge because It sees only Itself everywhere.

When we accept that we are as God created us, we accept our Identity. We are at peace and we join in the joyous extension of Love.

A Practice That Sets Us Free

Who assumes a power that he does not possess is deceiving himself. ²Yet to accept the power given him by God is but to acknowledge his Creator and accept His gifts. ³And His gifts have no limit. ⁴To ask the Holy Spirit to decide for you is simply to accept your true inheritance. ⁵Does this mean that you cannot say anything without consulting Him? ⁶No, indeed! ⁷That would hardly be practical, and it is the practical with which this course is most concerned. ⁸If you have made it a habit to ask for help when and where you can, you can be confident that wisdom will be given you when you need it. ⁹Prepare for this each morning, remember God when you can throughout the day, ask the Holy Spirit’s help when it is feasible to do so, and thank Him for His guidance at night. ¹⁰And your confidence will be well founded indeed. (A Course in Miracles, M-29.5)

Here we have a practice that can set us free from fear and guilt. We have a Guide within our mind Whose purpose is to guide us to full remembrance of our Identity in God. Our Identity is a given; It can never change. To ask the Holy Spirit to make all decisions on our behalf is willingness to let truth replace all self-deceptions.

To perceive anyone as a body, including our own, is to accept false beliefs. The Holy Spirit sees past these perceptions to the Love that is our Identity. Each day we can set our intent to let the Holy Spirit decide all things on our behalf. As we practice pausing throughout the day to accept His help, we become His messenger to bring healing to the world and heal our minds as well.

Atonement Accepts God’s Reality

Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. ²It does not pardon sins and make them real. ³It sees there was no sin. ⁴And in that view are all your sins forgiven. ⁵What is sin, except a false idea about God’s Son? ⁶Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go. ⁷What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God.

An unforgiving thought is one which makes a judgment that it will not raise to doubt, although it is not true. ²The mind is closed, and will not be released.

Forgiveness, on the other hand, is still, and quietly does nothing. ²It offends no aspect of reality, nor seeks to twist it to appearances it likes. ³It merely looks, and waits, and judges not. …he who would forgive himself must learn to welcome truth exactly as it is.

Do nothing, then, and let forgiveness show you what to do, through Him Who is your Guide, your Savior and Protector, strong in hope, and certain of your ultimate success. ²He has forgiven you already, for such is His function, given Him by God. ³Now must you share His function, and forgive whom He has saved, whose sinlessness He sees, and whom He honors as the Son of God. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.1.1:1–2:2;4:1-3,5;5)

The ego tells us that we need to do things, pay a penalty or sacrifice to compensate for our sins. This is its version of atonement.

The Holy Spirit sees that no sin occurred in truth. Only in dreams does harm appear possible. But nothing can change the eternal Love that is God’s Son. Thus in truth, nothing has occurred that needs to be forgiven. He sees all of God’s Sons as united in the oneness of God’s eternal Love. Because nothing has changed this fact, nothing needs to be done.

Atonement is given us when we accept the Self we are as God’s Son. We awaken from a dream of sin to the reality of Love.

In the dream, forgiveness is needed. Forgiveness recognizes that what we thought occurred never happened in truth. It sees beyond the dream images to our unity with our Creator. Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s help to see the truth that everyone is one as the Son of God.

Resting in the Oneness of Love

The glory of my Father is my own.

Let not the truth about ourselves today be hidden by a false humility. ²Let us instead be thankful for the gifts our Father gave us. ³Can we see in those with whom He shares His glory any trace of sin and guilt? ⁴And can it be that we are not among them, when He loves His Son forever and with perfect constancy, knowing he is as He created him?

We thank You, Father, for the light that shines forever in us. ²And we honor it, because You share it with us. ³We are one, united in this light and one with You, at peace with all creation and ourselves. (A Course in Miracles, W-239. See also ACIM Lesson 239 Insights.)

Today let’s join in gratitude that our true Self unites us with every brother and our Creator. All that Love is, we are. Peace and joy are our natural state. Today when we think of anyone, we remind ourselves that they are the same Love that we are. We are joined in the Heart of Love.

Whatever appearances we perceive in the world are not true. If we believe they are true, they distract us from the truth of Love’s oneness. As we affirm the reality of Love, we free ourselves from perceptions of differences.

In gratitude we accept the Holy Spirit’s help to let go of our perceptions of differences. We rest in the oneness of Love.

Accepting the Real World of Love

You are the dreamer of the world of dreams. ²No other cause it has, nor ever will. ³Nothing more fearful than an idle dream has terrified God’s Son, and made him think that he has lost his innocence, denied his Father, and made war upon himself. ⁴So fearful is the dream, so seeming real, he could not waken to reality without the sweat of terror and a scream of mortal fear, unless a gentler dream preceded his awaking, and allowed his calmer mind to welcome, not to fear, the Voice that calls with love to waken him; a gentler dream, in which his suffering was healed and where his brother was his friend. ⁵God willed he waken gently and with joy, and gave him means to waken without fear.

Accept the dream He gave instead of yours. ²It is not difficult to change a dream when once the dreamer has been recognized. ³Rest in the Holy Spirit, and allow His gentle dreams to take the place of those you dreamed in terror and in fear of death. ⁴He brings forgiving dreams, in which the choice is not who is the murderer and who shall be the victim. ⁵In the dreams He brings there is no murder and there is no death. ⁶The dream of guilt is fading from your sight, although your eyes are closed. ⁷A smile has come to lighten up your sleeping face. ⁸The sleep is peaceful now, for these are happy dreams. We pause frequently today to set aside our judgments. We remember to rest in the Holy Spirit, Whose guidance leads us to see the world forgiven. The Light of Love shines brighter as the shadows of fear and guilt are dispelled.

We let the Love in our hearts shine upon our brothers and join with the Love they are. We are grateful to accept the Holy Spirit’s vision that shows us the real world of Love in which we live.

Seeing Love’s Reality Everywhere

Christ’s vision has one law. ²It does not look upon a body, and mistake it for the Son whom God created. ³It beholds a light beyond the body; an idea beyond what can be touched, a purity undimmed by errors, pitiful mistakes, and fearful thoughts of guilt from dreams of sin. ⁴It sees no separation. ⁵And it looks on everyone, on every circumstance, all happenings and all events, without the slightest fading of the light it sees.

This can be taught; and must be taught by all who would achieve it. ²It requires but the recognition that the world can not give anything that faintly can compare with this in value; nor set up a goal that does not merely disappear when this has been perceived. ³And this you give today: See no one as a body. ⁴Greet him as the Son of God he is, acknowledging that he is one with you in holiness.

Thus are his sins forgiven him, for Christ has vision that has power to overlook them all.

³This lesson is not difficult to learn, if you remember in your brother you but see yourself. ⁴If he be lost in sin, so must you be; if you see light in him, your sins have been forgiven by yourself. ⁵Each brother whom you meet today provides another chance to let Christ’s vision shine on you, and offer you the peace of God. All our judgments are judgments on ourselves. We disguise these judgments by projecting them on an outside world. All our distress, unhappiness, fear and guilt are the effects on these judgments. They maintain the belief that we are separate from the Love of our Creator.

Christ is the Self that knows It is eternally united with our Father. Christ’s vision sees past all our judgments, for it sees with forgiving eyes. It does not overlook anything that is real. It looks only on the reality of Love.

Today we welcome Christ’s vision, which shows us the Love that is in everything, everywhere. It sees the unity with our Father that can never be broken. In this unity we know our innocence and find the peace of God.
