The Lessons That Free Us to Be Love

“Love is the way I walk in gratitude.

²The Holy Spirit is my only Guide. ³He walks with me in love. ⁴And I give thanks to Him for showing me the way to go.

⁵I am not a body. ⁶I am free.
⁷For I am still as God created me.

We have taught ourselves that we are a body, subject to all its limitations. The Holy Spirit is in our mind to help us learn to undo this lesson that brought us pain and suffering, fear and guilt. He is our Guide to remember the Love which remains our true Identity.

Aș we learn His lessons and forgive the beliefs we taught ourselves, we walk in joy and gratitude. Today we choose to be vigilant for Love and the Holy Spirit’s guidance to help us live freely as Love’s extension.

Accepting Love as Our Identity

⁶In quietness is [the peace of God] acknowledged universally. ⁷For what your inward vision looks upon is your perception of the universe.

Sit quietly and close your eyes. ²The light within you is sufficient. ³It alone has power to give the gift of sight to you. ⁴Exclude the outer world, and let your thoughts fly to the peace within. ⁵They know the way. ⁶For honest thoughts, untainted by the dream of worldly things outside yourself, become the holy messengers of God Himself.

We practice coming nearer to the light in us today. ²We take our wandering thoughts, and gently bring them back to where they fall in line with all the thoughts we share with God.

…we acknowledge that the peace of God still shines in us, and from us to all living things that share our life. ²We will forgive them all, absolving all the world from what we thought it did to us. ³For it is we who make the world as we would have it. ⁴Now we choose that it be innocent, devoid of sin and open to salvation. ⁵And we lay our saving blessing on it, as we say:

⁶The peace of God is shining in me now.

A fundamental message of the Course is that God is only Love and He creates by extending His Love. This is the basis for acknowledging that His Son shares His Love. To know the Love we are as His Son, we need to let go of the images we have made that seem to disconnect us from God.

We are called to quiet our mind and welcome God’s peace. He has given us His peace in our creation. We are simply being called to acknowledge our true Identity as Love. Love knows no conflict. As we forgive all the thoughts of lack and loss, fear and guilt, we awaken to the peace that is our natural state. We are grateful that we have a Guide to forgiveness Whose vision shows us the presence of Love within and all around us.

We are grateful to let God’s peace shine through us upon a forgiven world.

Learning to Value Love’s Oneness

Perception is consistent. ²What you see reflects your thinking. ³And your thinking but reflects your choice of what you want to see. ⁴Your values are determiners of this, for what you value you must want to see, believing what you see is really there. ⁵No one can see a world his mind has not accorded value. ⁶And no one can fail to look upon what he believes he wants.

Fear has made everything you think you see. ²All separation, all distinctions, and the multitude of differences you believe make up the world. ³They are not there. ⁴Love’s enemy has made them up. ⁵Yet love can have no enemy, and so they have no cause, no being and no consequence. ⁶They can be valued, but remain unreal.

It is impossible to see two worlds which have no overlap of any kind. ²Seek for the one; the other disappears. ³But one remains. ⁴They are the range of choice beyond which your decision cannot go. ⁵The real and the unreal are all there are to choose between, and nothing more than these.

⁵It is impossible to see two worlds. ⁶Let me accept the strength God offers me and see no value in this world, that I may find my freedom and deliverance.

God will be there. ²For you have called upon the great unfailing power which will take this giant step with you in gratitude. ³Nor will you fail to see His thanks expressed in tangible perception and in truth. (A Course in Miracles, W-130.1;4:1-6;5;8:5–9:3. See also ACIM Lesson 130 Insights.)

Because the body is part of the world of differences, we cannot use its senses to recognize the oneness of God’s Love. But we have another way to see. If, for even a moment, we accept the strength God offers us, we can free ourselves from the limitations of the body.

Christ’s vision shows us a forgiven world where no value is given to forms which define differences. We value the oneness of Love over the distinctions fear would have us perceive. This vision comes as we are willing to accept the strength God has given us, His Son.

Accepting Life as an Extension of Love

Father, I will but to remember You.

What can I seek for, Father, but Your Love? ²Perhaps I think I seek for something else; a something I have called by many names. ³Yet is Your Love the only thing I seek, or ever sought. ⁴For there is nothing else that I could ever really want to find. ⁵Let me remember You. ⁶What else could I desire but the truth about myself?

This is your will, my brother. ²And you share this will with me, and with the One as well Who is our Father. ³To remember Him is Heaven. ⁴This we seek. ⁵And only this is what it will be given us to find. (A Course in Miracles, W-231. See also ACIM Lesson 231 Insights.)

To remember our Father is to remember Love. The world we believe we live in is a nightmare dream in which Love is denied. This dream leaves us feeling a sense of loss. This emptiness drives us to search for something to fill the loss. But within the dream, we search where there is no answer to fill the loss.

The answer can only be found in awakening from the dream. By affirming that we want to remember our Father, we are opening our mind to awaken from the dream.

Today we can bring happiness and joy to our lives as we accept the Thought that Love created us like Itself. Our Father is our Source; Love is our Source. We are being reminded that there is a Life we share with God. This shared Life is the eternal extension of God’s Love. As we accept this Life, the loss we experience in the dream is dispelled. We awaken to the fact that Love is What we are.

The Vision That Recognizes Love’s Presence

Christ asks that He may use my eyes today, and thus redeem the world. ²He asks this gift that He may offer peace of mind to me, and take away all terror and all pain. ³And as they are removed from me, the dreams that seemed to settle on the world are gone. ⁴Redemption must be one. ⁵As I am saved, the world is saved with me. ⁶For all of us must be redeemed together. ⁷Fear appears in many different forms, but love is one.

My Father, Christ has asked a gift of me, and one I give that it be given me. ²Help me to use the eyes of Christ today, and thus allow the Holy Spirit’s Love to bless all things which I may look upon, that His forgiving Love may rest on me. The eyes of Christ are forgiving eyes. When we choose Christ’s vision, we see the world without judgments. We see the presence of Love beyond the images of the world. We see no conflict, no need to defend or attack. We see only the Love that unites us with every brother.

With this vision we bring Love’s blessing to the world. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us forgive our misperceptions which have caused us pain and suffering. We welcome His Love and want to share it with the world.

Letting the Voice of Love Be Our Guide

²The world is born again each time you rest, and hourly remember that you came to bring the peace of God into the world, that it might take its rest along with you.

You rest within the peace of God today, and call upon your brothers from your rest to draw them to their rest, along with you. ²You will be faithful to your trust today, forgetting no one, bringing everyone into the boundless circle of your peace, the holy sanctuary where you rest. ³Open the temple doors and let them come from far across the world, and near as well; your distant brothers and your closest friends; bid them all enter here and rest with you.

⁴Time is not the guardian of what we give today. ⁵We give to those unborn and those passed by, to every Thought of God, and to the Mind in which these Thoughts were born and where they rest. ⁶And we remind them of their resting place each time we tell ourselves, “I rest in God.” (A Course in Miracles, W-109.6:2;8;9:4-6. As God’s Son, we all rest in the peace of God. Only our identification with the body makes us unaware of His peace. Today we are called to remind ourselves that we always rest in God. We welcome His Love. Love’s Light shines in everything and everyone. We see It as we forgive our mistaken identification with images of separation.

As we let Love guide us, we use the body to express It in the world with our thoughts and actions. We are grateful that we have the Voice of Love in our mind to guide us. As we accept Love’s help, we remember we live in God’s peace and joy.

Forgiveness Opens Heaven’s Gate

Forgiveness is this world’s equivalent of Heaven’s justice. ²It translates the world of sin into a simple world, where justice can be reflected from beyond the gate behind which total lack of limits lies. ³Nothing in boundless love could need forgiveness. ⁴And what is charity within the world gives way to simple justice past the gate that opens into Heaven. ⁵No one forgives unless he has believed in sin, and still believes that he has much to be forgiven. ⁶Forgiveness thus becomes the means by which he learns he has done nothing to forgive. ⁷Forgiveness always rests upon the one who offers it, until he sees himself as needing it no more. ⁸And thus is he returned to his real function of creating, which his forgiveness offers him again.

…what has been forgiven must join, for nothing stands between to keep them separate and apart. ⁵The sinless must perceive that they are one, for nothing stands between to push the other off. ⁶And in the space that sin left vacant do they join as one, in gladness recognizing what is part of them has not been kept apart and separate.

This tiny spot of sin that stands between you and your brother still is holding back the happy opening of Heaven’s gate. ²How little is the hindrance that withholds the wealth of Heaven from you. ³And how great will be the joy in Heaven when you join the mighty chorus to the Love of God! When we forgive, we let go of judgment. In the oneness of God’s Love there is no perception of another to judge. That is why in His Love, God does not judge nor condemn.

While we perceive differences, forgiveness is necessary. The differences seem very real as we perceive with the body. We need help from outside the thought system of separation to recognize no judgment is justified.

As we let the Holy Spirit exchange His perceptions for ours, we learn to see the Love that joins us with every brother. When forgiveness is complete, the barriers to Love’s presence have been dismissed. We awaken in the Heaven of God’s Love.
