Uniting with the Power of God Within Us

Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light. We have repeatedly emphasized that the barrier of grievances is easily passed, and cannot stand between you and your salvation.

We will succeed today if you remember that you want salvation for yourself. You want to accept God’s plan because you share in it. You have no will that can really oppose it, and you do not want to do so. Salvation is for you. Above all else, you want the freedom to remember Who you really are. Today it is the ego that stands powerless before your will. Your will is free, and nothing can prevail against it.

…tell yourself with gentle firmness and quiet certainty:

I will there be light. Let me behold the light that reflects God’s Will and mine.

The purpose of the ego thought system is to make it look like we are separate and different from the outer world we see through the body’s eyes. We are learning that the truth is just the opposite. We are learning that, “Idle wishes and grievances are partners or co-makers in picturing the world [we] see.” The ego mind is always looking to find guilt in the outer world to try to alleviate its own sense of guilt.

We are learning we do not need to continue this way of thinking. We can pass it by and open to the Will we share with God. As we open to the Light of God’s Will, we are able to see the world from a different point of view. As we unite with the power of God within us, we are freed of the punishing and imprisoning thoughts of the ego thought system. We free ourselves as we join with our true eternal Will — the Will we share with God.

Our practice for today is to repeatedly step back from our everyday ego thinking and choose to join with the Will of God. We accept God’s plan of seeing innocence in everyone, instead of the guilt the ego always chooses to see.

Only Love Matters

My gratitude permits my love to be accepted without fear. And thus am I restored to my reality at last. All that intruded on my holy sight forgiveness takes away. And I draw near the end of senseless journeys, mad careers and artificial values. I accept instead what God establishes as mine, sure that in that alone I will be saved; sure that I go through fear to meet my Love.

Father, I come to You today, because I would not follow any way but Yours. You are beside me. Certain is Your way. And I am grateful for Your holy gifts of certain sanctuary, and escape from everything that would obscure my love for God my Father and His holy Son. With all the busyness of the world, it seems easy to get lost in the complexity and forget that only Love matters. I am willing to take a breath, step back and remember that behind all images of separation is the constant beingness of Love that we all are. Every brother is one with God’s Love including ourselves.

As I step back and remember the truth, all tension fades away. It is easier to let myself be carried while accepting Love’s Presence. Love truly is the Answer for every concern, apprehension or form of suffering. Today we let Love lead the way. When we remember, we see that only Love is there.

The Path of Return to Love

The way to God is through forgiveness here. There is no other way.… Here we can but dream. But we can dream we have forgiven him [every brother] in whom all sin remains impossible, and it is this we choose to dream today. God is our goal; forgiveness is the means by which our minds return to Him at last.

And so, our Father, would we come to You in Your appointed way. We have no goal except to hear Your Voice, and find the way Your sacred Word has pointed out to us. A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 256, (W-pII.256.1-2,7-6;2:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 256 Insights.)

While we believe we are an individual, separate from everyone and all things, we cannot truly forgive. We need to let the Voice for God teach us to see past the appearances of the world of separation to see the innocence inherent in all God’s creation.

The Holy Spirit brings us a way of seeing in our minds that the body’s eyes cannot see. It is this inner vision that shows us that only Love is real. It is this inner vision that shows us the innocence in every brother, including ourselves. We dedicate today to holding our hearts and minds open to the Holy Spirit’s lessons in forgiveness. This is how we return to Love.

We Let Go and Open to God’s Light

…we do not choose the way in which we go to Him. But we do choose to let Him come. And with this choice we rest. And in our quiet hearts and open minds, His Love will blaze its pathway of itself. What has not been denied is surely there, if it be true and can be surely reached. God knows His Son, and knows the way to him. He does not need His Son to show Him how to find His way. Through every opened door His Love shines outward from its home within, and lightens up the world in innocence. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 189, W-pI.189.9. Today we open our hearts to let the Light of Love within shine forth. We feel Love’s blessing as we release It from our limited concepts of our self and let It flow freely. The Love of God has no limits. And as we open our hearts to let It flow, Love touches every lonely heart that believed it was alone and separate. It brings with It the quiet message, “This is not so. You are wholly contained within the Love of God, safe and innocent.”

This message blesses us as it extends through us and we join with all our brothers in the oneness of God’s Son. In the Light of Love, we see past the sad and fearful images of the world, for it is clear that they are merely false ideas which never could be true. Instead we see only Love and calls for Love and respond to both with Love. All this comes as we let go and open to God’s Light.

Following God’s Plan

The Holy Spirit holds this plan of God exactly as it was received of Him within the Mind of God and in your own. It is apart from time in that its Source is timeless. Yet it operates in time, because of your belief that time is real. Unshaken does the Holy Spirit look on what you see; on sin and pain and death, on grief and separation and on loss. Yet does He know one thing must still be true; God is still Love, and this is not His Will.

This is the Thought that brings illusions to the truth, and sees them as appearances behind which is the changeless and the sure. This is the Thought that saves and that forgives, because it lays no faith in what is not created by the only Source it knows. This is the Thought whose function is to save by giving you its function as your own. Salvation is your function, with the One to Whom the plan was given. Now are you entrusted with this plan, along with Him. He has one answer to appearances; regardless of their form, their size, their depth or any attribute they seem to have:

Salvation is my only function here. God still is Love, and this is not His Will. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 99, W-pI.99.5-6. See also ACIM Lesson 99 Insights.)

As we stay open the Holy Spirit’s inspiration hour by hour, we are brought to a state of mind where we are able to see past the ego’s image making to the eternal truth that only Love is real. As we consistently practice staying connected to the Holy Spirit’s way of seeing, we carried to be truly helpful in this world. We easily see the Christ in every brother.

We heal as we see the truth behind illusions, with Holy Spirit’s Help. Fear thoughts fall away as we we allow ourselves to be carried by Holy Spirit’s plan of awakening. We heal and are healed. God is the strength in which we trust.

I’m Listening, Holy Spirit

Christ’s vision looks through me today. His sight shows me all things forgiven and at peace, and offers this same vision to the world. And I accept this vision in its name, both for myself and for the world as well. What loveliness we look upon today! What holiness we see surrounding us! And it is given us to recognize it is a holiness in which we share; it is the Holiness of God Himself.

This day my mind is quiet, to receive the Thoughts You offer me. And I accept what comes from You, instead of from myself. I do not know the way to You. But You are wholly certain. Father, guide Your Son along the quiet path that leads to You. Let my forgiveness be complete, and let the memory of You return to me. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 291, W-pII.291.1:2-2:6. When we listen to the ego thought system, we are denying Love, peace and happiness. When we focus our attention on the Voice for God, we are opening to God’s Thoughts of Love, peace and happiness. The practice of paying attention to the Holy Spirit in our minds is how we accept God’s gifts.

Today we would listen to the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of all that we seem to see and experience in the world. Every moment has the potential to be a gift of freedom and of Love if we are willing to accept Holy Spirit’s vision in place of our limited perception. This is how we forgive the past and let the Love that is present now be welcomed as our own. Holy Spirit, we are listening.

Opening the Door to Happiness

Reality is never frightening. It is impossible that it could upset me. Reality brings only perfect peace. When I am upset, it is always because I have replaced reality with illusions I made up. The illusions are upsetting because I have given them reality, and thus regard reality as an illusion. Nothing in God’s creation is affected in any way by this confusion of mine. I am always upset by nothing.

I see only my own thoughts, and my mind is preoccupied with the past. What, then, can I see as it is? Let me remember that I look on the past to prevent the present from dawning on my mind. Let me understand that I am trying to use time against God. Let me learn to give the past away, realizing that in so doing I am giving up nothing. If anything upsets us, it is a sure sign that we are denying our unity with our Source. Unity with our Source of peace can only bring us peace. When we feel disturbed, something has gone wrong in our thoughts and beliefs. Nothing more; nothing less. We must be believing we are disconnected from our Source of peace.

Fortunately, beliefs can change. But to change our beliefs, we need help from outside our belief system that denies peace. That Help is ever present in our minds, given us by our Creator in answer to our mistaken beliefs.

Every time we become aware that we are upset or disturbed in any way, we have given ourselves a gift. We can use this awareness as a reminder to bring our thoughts and beliefs to the Holy Spirit in our minds. If we are willing to receive it, the Holy Spirit will shine the Light of Truth on our mistaken beliefs so that we may see the truth beyond the false ideas.

What was perceived as upsetting is recognized as a call for Love. The Holy Spirit extends His Love through us in answer to the call. As Holy Spirit’s Love flows through us, we experience its blessing and join with the Love in our brother. This is forgiveness. Each time we do this, we open the door wider to the experience of God’s perfect peace, changeless Love and indescribable happiness.
