Gratitude for the Self We Are

Today in gratitude we lift our hearts above despair, and raise our thankful eyes, no longer looking downward to the dust. We sing the song of thankfulness today, in honor of the Self that God has willed to be our true Identity in Him. Today we smile on everyone we see, and walk with lightened footsteps as we go to do what is appointed us to do. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.123.4)

It is only natural to welcome with a smile a friend whom we love and who loves us dearly. The truth in every brother is this loving Friend. If a brother doesn’t inspire us to smile in welcome, it is because we have overlaid a made up image that we have substituted for the truth of our brother. We are seeing that image from a made up image of ourselves.

It’s all a guilty and fearful fantasy that could never be true but hides the truth because of our belief in it. It is this fantasy we need to forgive, or let go of. As we practice giving thanks for the truth in our brothers, we shift our values from wanting the fantasy to full appreciation of the truth.

Today our practice is to join with the Holy Spirit in gratitude for all our brothers, who are one with us. It is gratitude for the Self we share and are.

Living from Our Center of Peace

Let this day be a day of stillness and of quiet listening… His Voice awaits your silence, for His Word can not be heard until your mind is quiet for a while, and meaningless desires have been stilled. Await His Word in quiet. There is peace within you to be called upon today, to help make ready your most holy mind to hear the Voice for its Creator speak. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.125.1:1;6:2-4)

The Course does not ask us to spend the day in silent contemplation. But it does ask us to stay in touch with the center of peace within us while we go about our day. As we maintain connection with our center of peace, our minds are open to the inspiration of His Voice.

From that center of peace, the meaning of all our doing comes from the remembrance of our true Identity, our unity with all in the Love of God. From that perspective, we see no need for defense, all judgment is laid aside and all our doing brings with it the blessing of God’s Love extended through us. This is our purpose. This is what gives meaning to all our doing. This is how forgiveness makes way for the awareness of Love’s presence within us all. This is our focus for today.

Inviting Love to Enter

The holy instant is your invitation to love to enter into your bleak and joyless kingdom, and to transform it into a garden of peace and welcome. Love’s answer is inevitable. It will come because you came without the body, and interposed no barriers to interfere with its glad coming. In the holy instant, you ask of love only what it offers everyone, neither less nor more. Asking for everything, you will receive it. And your shining Self will lift the tiny aspect that you tried to hide from Heaven straight to Heaven. No part of love calls on the whole in vain. No Son of God remains outside His Fatherhood. (A Course in Miracles T-18.IX.11)

Our practice for today is to invite Love to enter throughout the day. Love responds to every request. Giving Love welcome opens the door to receiving the shift in perspective that heals our false perceptions of separation.

If we insist on seeing our brother as a body, we are defending against Love, because Love cannot be limited to an image or form. We give Love welcome by choosing to disregard the images the body shows us and being willing to see beyond them to the eternal changeless Love that is ever present. We can only do this by letting go of the past. This is what forgiveness does. Each time we bring a guilty or fearful thought to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His perspective, we invite Love to enter. This is our focus for today.

Accepting Love’s Beingness

We have one intent today and that is to accept Love’s beingness… We blend with Love’s peace and gentleness… We soften… and open to Love’s healing Light…

We let ourselves be carried… We open to and accept Love’s Thoughts… We extend Love’s Thoughts to every brother… We see that every brother is the same Love that we are…

We are here to be truly helpful… We follow as Love leads… We rest in Love’s certainty of purpose… We accept Love’s beingness.

Only Be Quiet

Only be quiet. You will need no rule but this, to let your practicing today lift you above the thinking of the world, and free your vision from the body’s eyes. Only be still and listen. You will hear the Word in which the Will of God the Son joins in his Father’s Will, at one with it, with no illusions interposed between the wholly indivisible and true. As every hour passes by today, be still a moment and remind yourself you have a special purpose for this day; in quiet to receive the Word of God.

Be willing to be taught. Be glad to hear the Voice of truth and healing speak to you, and you will understand the words He speaks, and recognize He speaks your words to you. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.125.8;126.10:3-4)

The mystics of all the world’s religions have at least one thing in common: They all recognize the importance of being quiet to receive inspiration. One of the ego’s defenses is to maintain a constant chatter of thoughts about things in the world. This chatter masks the calm and quiet Voice of truth in our minds that would teach us that nothing in the world has value and would show us the magnificence of our reality in the Heart of God.

We don’t have to pay attention to the chatter. But we have become so accustomed to the chatter that we need to train our minds to redirect our attention away from it to the quiet place in our minds where we can hear the Voice of our true Self. Here is where we find the vision that sees only Love. Here is where we receive the word that only innocence is true. Here is where we experience the joy of unity with all our brothers.

Our practice today is to frequently pause and focus our attention on the quiet place within so that we are inspired in the moment with the recognition of what is true and what is false, what is real and what is unreal. It is this word of God that sets us free from the illusion of being alone and separate from our Source.

Recognizing Our Reality

I am in the likeness of my Creator. I cannot suffer, I cannot experience loss and I cannot die. I am not a body. I would recognize my reality today. I will worship no idols, nor raise my own self-concept to replace my Self. I am in the likeness of my Creator. Love created me like itself. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.84.1:2-8)

God is perfect happiness, peace that cannot be disturbed, and changeless Love without limit. Since His creation shares all that God is, His reality is ours. If we are not experiencing this perfect happiness, changeless Love and peace, we are not recognizing our reality. We are believing in something that could not be real, worshiping an idol.

But we can let go of this mistaken allegiance to a false idol that hides our reality from us. By reminding ourselves as we look on the world that what we are perceiving with the body is not God’s creation, is not real, we loosen our allegiance to a mistaken idea. We clear away the veil and make way for the recognition of our reality. This is our practice for today.

We are one in God.

This is the lesson that we are asked to accept and extend today… We are one in God… 

We hold this thought as we go through our day and let the beneficent Light of our true Identity influence our view of the world with every situation we encounter. We are one in God… 

With this view we will see past the veil of images and forms to the truth of our unity with All That Is. We will remember the Love we are and see our connection with everyone in the oneness of God.
