Making the Choice for Heaven

God is simple. God is not complex. God is changeless and is not in a constant state of flux. God is All There is.

Everything in the world of time is in a constant state of change. Nothing stays the same. It is a world of separate interests and conflict. It is the opposite of God, our Source. It is the opposite of changeless Love. It is the opposite of oneness.

I make the decision of what I am willing to be aware of in every moment. Am I willing to be aware of Love’s constant state of changeless oneness? Or am I focusing on separate bodies with separate interests, different than my own?

This morning we read A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 138, “Heaven is the decision I must make.” Here I am reminded to allow my one true Self to be in charge of my perception. This requires that I step back from the ego’s constant chatter about what everything means. This requires that I open my mind to God’s peace and changeless awareness of oneness. This is my practice for today.

Today’s lesson reminded me that the unconscious mind is a key mechanism the ego uses to hide the choices I have made so that the illusion of separation seems real to me. It makes me unaware of the choices I make in every moment to see justification for guilt and fear.

By keeping those choices unconscious, the effects of those choices appear to be happening to me. I seem to be the victim of situations and events in the world because I am unaware of the choices I made that put me in those situations.

In many places the Course tells us that we must raise all our thoughts, all our fears, all our guilt, to the Light. In the Holy Spirit’s Light, what seemed to be insurmountable obstacles are seen as no more than wisps of smoke, easily passed by as I allow the Light to return to my awareness.

Today my practice is to be alert to any disturbance of my peace and bring it to the Light of Holy Spirit to receive His vision in place of my image making.
