Moving from Misperceptions to True Perception

Let me forget my brother’s past today.

This is the thought that leads the way to You, and brings me to my goal. ²I cannot come to You without my brother. ³And to know my Source, I first must recognize what You created one with me. ⁴My brother’s is the hand that leads me on the way to You. ⁵His sins are in the past along with mine, and I am saved because the past is gone. ⁶Let me not cherish it within my heart, or I will lose the way to walk to You. ⁷My brother is my savior. ⁸Let me not attack the savior You have given me. ⁹But let me honor him who bears Your Name, and so remember that It is my own.

Forgive me, then, today. ²And you will know you have forgiven me if you behold your brother in the light of holiness. ³He cannot be less holy than can I, and you can not be holier than he. (A Course in Miracles, W-288. See also ACIM Lesson 288 Insights.)

The key to remembering God is to remember what He created one with me as His Son. To see my brother as one with me, I must see him without the past. This is the vision forgiveness brings. It forgives myself along with my brother. We are not different. We were created one and the same. This is why all forgiveness is really forgiveness of our false beliefs about ourselves.

Misperceptions are always the result of believing we are a separate identity. Whether it appears we are forgiving a brother or ourselves, the effect is the same. For it is letting go of a false image that stands as a veil between our awareness and the truth that we are Love and nothing else.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s help to let go of the past and let the Light of Love fill our world.

Today We Choose to Be Love

My Father gives all power unto me.

The Son of God is limitless. ²There are no limits on his strength, his peace, his joy, nor any attributes his Father gave in his creation. ³What he wills with his Creator and Redeemer must be done. ⁴His holy will can never be denied, because his Father shines upon his mind, and lays before it all the strength and love in earth and Heaven. ⁵I am he to whom all this is given. ⁶I am he in whom the power of my Father’s Will abides.

Your Will can do all things in me, and then extend to all the world as well through me. ²There is no limit on Your Will. ³And so all power has been given to Your Son. (A Course in Miracles, W-320. See also ACIM Lesson 320 Insights.)

Our true Self has all of God’s power, for It shares His Will. But the separate self identity we think we are has no power whatsoever. It can make illusions and believe they are real, but they do nothing to change God’s Son.

Today we are reminded of What we are in truth. We are Love and Love is the only power. When we accept our Self, we create by extending Love as our Creator extended It to His Son. This is all we can do because Love is everything that Is. Today we choose to be our Self. We choose to be Love.

We Have Constant Support to Awaken

Steady our feet, our Father. ²Let our doubts be quiet and our holy minds be still, and speak to us. ³We have no words to give to You. ⁴We would but listen to Your Word, and make it ours. ⁵Lead our practicing as does a father lead a little child along a way he does not understand. ⁶Yet does he follow, sure that he is safe because his father leads the way for him.

“So do we bring our practicing to You. ²And if we stumble, You will raise us up. ³If we forget the way, we count upon Your sure remembering. ⁴We wander off, but You will not forget to call us back. ⁵Quicken our footsteps now, that we may walk more certainly and quickly unto You.

³We walk together. ⁴I must understand uncertainty and pain, although I know they have no meaning. ⁵Yet a savior must remain with those he teaches, seeing what they see, but still retaining in his mind the way that led him out, and now will lead you out with him. (A Course in Miracles, W-rV.in.2:1–3:5;6:3-5)

Like sponsor support in 12 step programs, we can think of Jesus as our sponsor. He has been there, done that with experiences in the dream. But he knows the path that led him out of the dream. He is fully qualified to lead us Home to freedom from our addiction to individuality and specialness.

He is ever present in our mind to be called upon when we need support. He is there to remind us of his vision that reveals the forgiven world to us. With his help, we recognize the dream is meaningless and unreal. He stands with us to show us the Love in which we live and have our Being.

We can call him for help in any instant, and he will respond with Love. He reminds us of our innocence. And we give thanks.

Letting Love Light Our World

Salvation is my only function here.

Salvation and forgiveness are the same. ²They both imply that something has gone wrong; something to be saved from, forgiven for; something amiss that needs corrective change; something apart or different from the Will of God.

²The mind that sees illusions thinks them real. ³They have existence in that they are thoughts. ⁴And yet they are not real, because the mind that thinks these thoughts is separate from God.

⁴Unshaken does the Holy Spirit look on what you see; on sin and pain and death, on grief and separation and on loss. ⁵Yet does He know one thing must still be true; God is still Love, and this is not His Will.

³Let in the light, and you will look upon no obstacle to what He wills for you. ⁴Open your secrets to His kindly light, and see how bright this light still shines in you. (A Course in Miracles, W-99.1:1-2;3:2-4;5:4-5;8:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 99 Insights.)

The Light of Love is What we are. Yet we have divorced the Light and made a substitute which seems to allow us to see without Light. What we see are images projected by the ego thought of separation. In keeping with this thought, these images appear to be separate and different from What we are. We accept this appearance of images as our world, but none of it is real. It is a world of fear and guilt, anger and loss.

But we can remember the Light we are and let It shine. This Light reveals the truth of Love’s presence everywhere beyond the ego’s projected images. This Light brings us the correction that frees us from the limitations of separation, fear and guilt. The Light of Love dispels projections. In this Light, we see our brothers united with us, at one in God’s Love. The Holy Spirit is given us to help us see the Love in which we live and let go of the false images we thought were true.

Seeing the Reflection of Our Holiness

“Now” has no meaning to the ego. ²The present merely reminds it of past hurts, and it reacts to the present as if it were the past.… ⁴It dictates your reactions to those you meet in the present from a past reference point, obscuring their present reality. ⁵In effect, if you follow the ego’s dictates you will react to your brother as though he were someone else, and this will surely prevent you from recognizing him as he is.

⁵Unless you learn that past pain is an illusion, you are choosing a future of illusions and losing the many opportunities you could find for release in the present.… ⁹The Holy Spirit teaches that you always meet yourself, and the encounter is holy because you are.

⁴He regards the function of time as temporary, serving only His teaching function, which is temporary by definition. ⁵His emphasis is therefore on the only aspect of time that can extend to the infinite, for now is the closest approximation of eternity that this world offers. ⁶It is in the reality of “now,” without past or future, that the beginning of the appreciation of eternity lies. ⁷For only “now” is here, and only “now” presents the opportunities for the holy encounters in which salvation can be found.

³Healing cannot be accomplished in the past. ⁴It must be accomplished in the present to release the future. ⁵This interpretation ties the future to the present, and extends the present rather than the past. To see our brother truly is to see him as Love and nothing else. We cannot see him as he is if we use memories of the past as our reference to decide what he represents to us. This is what the ego does to give “meaning” to our world. Yet the past is an illusion, a dream of past hurts which never occurred in truth.

Because only Love is real and It never changes, we can only know in the present moment. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us let go of the past. With His help, we can see the present with the forgiving eyes of Christ’s vision. And our encounters will be holy. We will see reflections of our holiness in everyone.

How to Bring Love to the World

Your holiness is the answer to every question that was ever asked, is being asked now, or will be asked in the future. ²Your holiness means the end of guilt, and therefore the end of hell. ³Your holiness is the salvation of the world, and your own. ⁴How could you to whom your holiness belongs be excluded from it? ⁵God does not know unholiness. ⁶Can it be He does not know His Son?”

…search out your unloving thoughts in whatever form they appear; uneasiness, depression, anger, fear, worry, attack, insecurity and so on. ³Whatever form they take, they are unloving and therefore fearful. ⁴And so it is from [these thoughts] that you need to be saved.

³My unloving thoughts about _________ are keeping me in hell. ⁴My holiness is my salvation. (A Course in Miracles, W-39.4:1-6;6:2-4;8:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 39 Insights.)

Any thought that disturbs our peace of mind is an unloving thought. Peace is an attribute of Love. If we are not at peace, we have accepted an unloving thought, a thought of separation from Love, into our mind. This is why unloving thoughts keep us in hell. Hell is quite simply lack of Love, the seeming opposite of Love’s oneness. But, because only Love is real, It has no real opposite.

Today’s exercise, practiced diligently, will help us immeasurably. It prepares our mind to quickly recognize a thought that needs to be corrected. We can use this recognition as a reminder to forgive, with the Holy Spirit’s help. When we are willing to let our unloving thoughts be healed, our mind will be transformed.

Today we are willing to be part of the transformation from fear to Love. As we choose against unloving thoughts and accept Christ’s vision in their place, we bring Love to the world.

We Can Rest in Peace, Now and Forever

¹¹Holy are you, eternal, free and whole, at peace forever in the Heart of God. ¹²Where is the world, and where is sorrow now?

Is this your judgment on yourself, teacher of God? ²Do you believe that this is wholly true? ³No; not yet, not yet. ⁴But this is still your goal; why you are here. ⁵It is your function to prepare yourself to hear this Judgment and to recognize that it is true. ⁶One instant of complete belief in this, and you will go beyond belief to Certainty. ⁷One instant out of time can bring time’s end. ⁸Judge not, for you but judge yourself, and thus delay this Final Judgment. ⁹What is your judgment of the world, teacher of God? ¹⁰Have you yet learned to stand aside and hear the Voice of Judgment in yourself? ¹¹Or do you still attempt to take His role from Him? ¹²Learn to be quiet, for His Voice is heard in stillness. ¹³And His Judgment comes to all who stand aside in quiet listening, and wait for Him.

⁶There is no deceit in God. ⁷His promises are sure. ⁸Only remember that. ⁹His promises have guaranteed His Judgment, and His alone, will be accepted in the end. ¹⁰It is your function to make that end be soon. ¹¹It is your function to hold it to your heart, and offer it to all the world to keep it safe. (A Course in Miracles, M-15.1:11–2:13;3:6-11)

While we believe we are a body, all our judgments are wrong. They are based on a false premise that separation is real and that it is possible to judge another without first judging ourselves.

The eternal Love that is our Creator makes only one Judgment. It is the first and final Judgment. Because our Creator created us in the oneness of His Love, He knows that we are like Him, holy and complete. This Judgment never changes because it is the expression of Love’s oneness, which creates only like Itself.

This is Love’s guarantee. We accept this guarantee as we quiet our mind and welcome God’s peace. In peace we know our Reality as Love.

In quiet listening today, we ask for the Holy Spirit to help us open to the peace of God within. We ask His help to heal the mistaken thoughts that are afraid of God’s Love. With His help, we will know our true Reality and truly rest in peace, now and forever.
