The Light of Love Leads Us Home

In quietness is [the peace of God] acknowledged universally. For what your inward vision looks upon is your perception of the universe.

Sit quietly and close your eyes. The light within you is sufficient. It alone has power to give the gift of sight to you. Exclude the outer world, and let your thoughts fly to the peace within. They know the way. For honest thoughts, untainted by the dream of worldly things outside yourself, become the holy messengers of God Himself.

We practice coming nearer to the light in us today. We take our wandering thoughts, and gently bring them back to where they fall in line with all the thoughts we share with God.

…we acknowledge that the peace of God still shines in us, and from us to all living things that share our life. We will forgive them all, absolving all the world from what we thought it did to us. For it is we who make the world as we would have it. Now we choose that it be innocent, devoid of sin and open to salvation. And we lay our saving blessing on it, as we say:

The peace of God is shining in me now.
Let all things shine upon me in that peace,

The practice of frequently quieting our mind and going to the Light within helps welcome the Holy Spirit’s voice. This is key to letting the Holy Spirit’s insight and guidance into our awareness. He shines His Light upon our thoughts. This Light dispels the dark shadows of ego’s misperceptions, revealing the Love that joins us with all of Reality. With the Holy Spirit’s help we see the truth in our brothers that unites us in the one Self we share as God’s Son.

The more frequently we remember to pause and welcome the peace of God, the greater will be our happiness. We learn to see all things in His Light. And the ego’s darkness fades away as we journey Home to Love.

Giving Allegiance to Love Instead of Fear

When your body and your ego and your dreams are gone, you will know that you will last forever. Perhaps you think this is accomplished through death, but nothing is accomplished through death, because death is nothing. Everything is accomplished through life, and life is of the mind and in the mind. The body neither lives nor dies, because it cannot contain you who are life. If we share the same mind, you can overcome death because I did. Death is an attempt to resolve conflict by not deciding at all. Like any other impossible solution the ego attempts, it will not work.

God did not make the body, because it is destructible, and therefore not of the Kingdom. The body is the symbol of what you think you are. It is clearly a separation device, and therefore does not exist. The Holy Spirit, as always, takes what you have made and translates it into a learning device. Again as always, He reinterprets what the ego uses as an argument for separation into a demonstration against [separation]. If the mind can heal the body, but the body cannot heal the mind, then the mind must be stronger than the body. Every miracle demonstrates this. (A Course in Miracles, T-6.V.A.1-2. Because of our allegiance to the ego, we accept the body as what we are. The body is a symbol made by the ego. But symbols cannot be real. They can only seem real in dreams. The body is made real by our mistaken belief that a symbol could be real. Without this belief, the symbol is disregarded, making way for us to awaken to the reality of our real Mind in the Mind of God.

We awaken from the dream by withdrawing our allegiance from the ego. If we are willing to give our allegiance to the Holy Spirit, He will use the body to teach us that we are not limited to it. We are Mind. We share the one Mind of God with Jesus. He demonstrated that what appeared to happen to his body had no effect on his Life in God. His demonstration shows us that we can do the same. We need only accept the help of the Holy Spirit as he did.

As we give our allegiance to the Holy Spirit in our mind, He will guide us to let go of our mistaken allegiance to the ego and the body. His lessons will teach us that the body cannot limit us. We are free to be Love in the one Mind of Love. We will see that we can let Love be extended through us in a world filled with symbols of separation. As we let the Light of Love illuminate our vision, we see the truth in our brothers with whom we share the one Mind of Love. We awaken from the dream of separation to the truth of the one Self Love created like Itself.

Welcoming the Peace of Our True Self

There is nothing else for you to find except the peace of God, unless you seek for misery and pain.

Come home. You have not found your happiness in foreign places and in alien forms that have no meaning to you, though you sought to make them meaningful. This world is not where you belong. You are a stranger here. But it is given you to find the means whereby the world no longer seems to be a prison house or jail for anyone.

Peace is the bridge that everyone will cross, to leave this world behind. But peace begins within the world perceived as differ­ent, and leading from this fresh perception to the gate of Heaven and the way beyond. Peace is the answer to conflicting goals, to senseless journeys, frantic, vain pursuits, and meaningless endeavors. Now the way is easy, sloping gently toward the bridge where freedom lies within the peace of God.

For peace is union, if it be of God. We seek no further. We are close to home, and draw still nearer every time we say:

There is no peace except the peace of God,

Peace is our Home. It is where God created His Son to remain at one with Himself. There is nowhere else in truth.

In the ego’s quest for specialness, it made itself a home where the oneness of God could not enter. The ego always sees itself in opposition, for the idea of joining in oneness terrifies it. The acceptance of oneness without reservation would instantly dispel the ego. For this is the choice for Reality in place of the ego’s illusions of being separate and different.

Perception of a world of differences and limitation is a choice to be undone. These perceptions can never bring us happiness and peace. Each time we recognize a perception that disturbs our peace, we can undo it by asking the Holy Spirit for help. We accept His help by pausing and welcoming the peace of our true Self. It is always there to receive through our willingness to step back from our involvement in the world.

Our willingness to question the reality of our perceptions opens our mind to receive the Holy Spirit’s true perception instead. His true perceptions show us the oneness of God’s Love that joins us with every brother. It frees us from conflict, guilt and fear and carries us to the gates of Heaven. We are welcomed home with His full embrace.

Choosing Perception That Heals

Forgiveness is the home of miracles. The eyes of Christ deliver them to all they look upon in mercy and in love. Perception stands corrected in His sight, and what was meant to curse has come to bless. Each lily of forgiveness offers all the world the silent miracle of love.

The miracle is taken first on faith, because to ask for it implies the mind has been made ready to conceive of what it cannot see and does not understand. Yet faith will bring its witnesses to show that what it rested on is really there. And thus the miracle will justify your faith in it, and show it rested on a world more real than what you saw before; a world redeemed from what you thought was there. Ego-directed perception will always show us lies, illusions that hide the truth. But we have an alternate Guide that offers true perception. We can call upon Christ’s vision, which will show us the presence of Love beyond the masks of differences and separation in the world. Love may seem hidden but It has never left the world because only Love is real. Love is everywhere, without limit.

Do we want to see a world of hate and fear? Or do we want to see a world where Love prevails, our unity with every brother is recognized and our mind is at peace? Do we want to continue with the ego’s quest for specialness and separation? Or do we want to remember the certainty of our Home in changeless Love where we share God’s joy and peace. In every moment we make this choice. When we choose Christ’s vision, we are accepting the Love of our true Self.

Today we offer our perceptions to the Holy Spirit to be exchanged for Christ’s vision. We want to awaken to Love. We want the peace of God. We want to be truly happy, at Home in Heaven.

Accepting Love’s Light in Our Mind

What makes this world seem real except your own denial of the truth that lies beyond? What but your thoughts of misery and death obscure the perfect happiness and the eternal life your Father wills for you? And what could hide what cannot be concealed except illusion? What could keep from you what you already have except your choice to see it not, denying it is there?

The Thought of God protects you, cares for you, makes soft your resting place and smooth your way, lighting your mind with happiness and love.

We count on God, and not upon ourselves, to give us certainty. And in His Name we practice as His Word directs we do. His sureness lies beyond our every doubt. His Love remains beyond our every fear. The Thought of Him is still beyond all dreams and in our minds, according to His Will. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 165, W-pI.165.1;2:6;8. See also ACIM Lesson 165 Insights.)

We, God’s Son, are God’s Thought, held eternally in His Mind. This is our only Reality. Nothing else exists because only Love is real.

This world is only the effect of denying our Father and His Creation. Denial does not make true; it only hides Reality beneath a veil of illusions. This veil of denial hides our safety, our happiness, our peace and our Love, which God has given us. His gift is still ours, never to be lost nor withdrawn.

Today we welcome God’s Love in our mind. We want to experience His comfort and happiness. We welcome it by accepting the Holy Spirit’s help to see with Christ’s vision. This vision sees past the veil of denial and allows our mind to be lit with the Light of Love.

Finding Certainty in Changeless Love

The overlooking of the battleground is now your purpose.

Be lifted up, and from a higher place look down upon it. From there will your perspective be quite different. Here in the midst of it, it does seem real. Here you have chosen to be part of it. Here murder [separation from Love, the Source of Life] is your choice. Yet from above, the choice is miracles [extensions of Love] instead of murder. And the perspective coming from this choice shows you the battle is not real, and easily escaped. Bodies may battle, but the clash of forms is meaningless. And it is over when you realize it never was begun. How can a battle be perceived as nothingness when you engage in it?

Think what is given those who share their Father’s purpose, and who know that it is theirs. They want for nothing. Sorrow of any kind is inconceivable. Only the light they love is in awareness, and only love shines upon them forever. [Love] is their past, their present and their future; always the same, eternally complete and wholly shared. They know it is impossible their happiness could ever suffer change of any kind. Perhaps you think the battleground can offer something you can win. Can it be anything that offers you a perfect calmness, and a sense of love so deep and quiet that no touch of doubt can ever mar your certainty? And that will last forever? While we are engaged with the ego and accept its meager offering of the body as our identity, we are engaged in constant battle. This little, limited self is vulnerable and needs to be constantly defended. This sense of weakness comes from denying the invulnerability of the Life we live in Love. Our engagement with the dream makes us unaware of the strength of Love in us.

It does not seem that we have murderous thoughts, but a thought what denies Life is murder. It doesn’t seem that a minor irritation is murderous. Irritation comes from a belief that what is irritating us is separate, different and capable of hurting us. But what is not real cannot harm the Reality of the Life we live in God.

To release our engagement with the ego, we need to pause and relax. It can be helpful to visualize being lifted up so high above the world that boundaries and limitations are no longer visible. From this high vantage point, the battlegrounds in the world fade from view.

We can relax and open our minds to the Holy Spirit’s point of view. With His help we see with the eyes of Love. We feel Love’s blessing and strength comforting us and bringing us peace. We see that nothing is real except the Love that unifies us with every brother and our Creator. In this Love there can be no threats, no loss, no vulnerability; only the certainty of changeless Love.

Today we choose to rise above the battleground and accept the vision of Love.

Choosing Our Life in Love

Think not that you can set a goal unlike God’s purpose for you, and establish it as changeless and eternal. You can give yourself a purpose that you do not have. But you can not remove the power to change your mind, and see another purpose there.

Change is the greatest gift God gave to all that you would make eternal, to ensure that only Heaven would not pass away. You were not born to die. You cannot change, because your function has been fixed by God. All other goals are set in time and change that time might be preserved, excepting one. Forgiveness does not aim at keeping time, but at its ending, when it has no use. Its purpose ended, it is gone. And where it once held seeming sway is now restored the function God established for His Son in full awareness. Time can set no end to its fulfillment nor its changelessness. There is no death because the living share the function their Creator gave to them. Life’s function cannot be to die. It must be life’s extension, that it be as one forever and forever, without end.

How lovely is the world whose purpose is forgiveness of God’s Son! How free from fear, how filled with blessing and with happiness! And what a joyous thing it is to dwell a little while in such a happy place! Nor can it be forgot, in such a world, it is a little while till timelessness comes quietly to take the place of time. God gave His Son one purpose, to extend His Love. That is our only true purpose in the world. The ego, in its quest for specialness, made up an alternative to the Self that God created one with Himself. The purpose of this false self is to reinforce the belief in separation, which is necessary to support the appearance of specialness.

The ego uses numerous mechanisms to support its purpose. Perhaps the one least obvious is time. Only in time does it seems possible to have a past or future different from the present. Time provides the means to overlook the Love that is always in the present and thus supports the separation that is essential to keeping the ego as the dictator of our experience.

But we can choose to use time for a different purpose. Willingness to choose the Holy Spirit as our Guide lets Him help us use time to forgive our past and let the presence of Love in the now moment dawn upon our minds. We are free to use this purpose instead of the ego’s. We are free to choose Love instead of the guilt and fear the ego thrives on. We are free to choose the Life we live in Love instead of the ego’s wish for death.

We choose Life today by choosing to accept the Holy Spirit’s guidance in all our perceptions throughout the day. Thus we choose to be as God created us.
