We Are Spirit as God Created Us

We state again the truth about your Self, the holy Son of God Who rests in you; whose mind has been restored to sanity. You are the spirit lovingly endowed with all your Father’s Love and peace and joy. You are the spirit which completes Himself, and shares His function as Creator. He is with you always, as you are with Him.

…He will offer all His strength to every little effort that you make. Give Him the minutes which He needs today, to help you understand with Him you are the spirit that abides in Him, and that calls through His Voice to every living thing; offers His sight to everyone who asks; replaces error with the simple truth. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.97.2:2-4;4:3-4)

Throughout the Course we are told in many ways that we, the Son of God, are not a body. We are Spirit. Yet it seems very difficult to fully accept this. It seems that if we give up our identification with the body and personality as what we are, we will be cast into oblivion. This is because we have confused death with Life. The false image we have made that we believe is what we are is an image of death.

If we were to accept that we are Spirit and not a body, the body would simply cease to seem to be. If we believe we are that body, it would seem like death. But in truth that shift would make way for the acceptance of eternal Life in God, acceptance of our Self, the Son of God. It would be release from death and return to our Life in God.

Letting go of our identity as a body seems like trying to leap the Grand Canyon. The Holy Spirit understands this and so It leads us gently, with many wonderful, little, easy steps, across the bridge to freedom and Life. Each time we let go of a judgment with His help, we take a step on the bridge to Life. We take a step out of fear, guilt and depression into Love, innocence and eternal joy. It is worth the practice.
