Reclaiming the Power of Our Minds

This is what I want to contemplate today:

“Denial has no power in itself, but you can give it the power of your mind, whose power is without limit. If you use it to deny reality, reality is gone for you.” (T-7.VII.1:5-6)

Again and again in the Course Jesus reminds us that the power of our mind is unlimited. This is so hard for us to comprehend. We have denied this power so thoroughly that we can’t say no to chocolate, or we procrastinate to the point we cause ourselves grief and think there is nothing we can do about it. We fall in and out of love and hurt each other and it seems just to happen to us. We feel like we have no power over our lives at all. And yet, Jesus says we have unlimited power. So we must be doing this to ourselves.

Spirit Light Outreach

That’s a reminder to us from Jesus in Lesson 135 of the Workbook in A Course in Miracles. All events! Every single encounter… every situation… every holy encounter…

For me, those events included following the path of a career criminal. I cared not for my fellow man but only for my own personal self-gratification regardless of who I harmed in the process.

Changing Teachers

Recently, my computer had a virus that was making my experience with it very aggravating. I took it to a store that boasted it would rid my computer of every virus, increase its speed, and guarantee to protect it from further attack for two full years. The cost was $300. My computer was less than two years old and I thought it would be worth the investment to have that professional assistance available.

Playing Our Part

In an old Star Trek the Next Generation episode, there is a scene where the character, Deanna Troy (who plays the wise counselor on the spaceship), along with two other characters, are forcefully thrown onto their backs as the result of an explosion. In a documentary about the show, Marina Sirtis, who plays Deanna, tells how she insisted on playing her own character in the scene, rather than using a stunt person. She relates how she broke her tailbone as a result of the fall and how painful it was.

Condemnation Injures Me; Forgiveness Sets Me Free

Consistently, I was guided to Lesson 198 in the Workbook: “Only my condemnation injures me.” The first sentence in that Lesson is: “Injury is impossible.” Wow! If that is true, why did I fall and break my hip?

What the Course Means to Me

Unless practice and application are added little progress or change can be expected. The Laws of Love

Eject! Eject!

I have a five slot CD player in my car. I’ve discovered that it was easier to quick change a CD when I only had a single slot player, so I find that I don’t change the CD’s very often, sometimes not for months at a time. There is one CD that I haven’t changed since I first loaded it seven year ago. Seven years! I keep telling myself it is because I like the music so much, but I know there is a much deeper reason.
