A True Thanksgiving Miracle

Having spent my whole life living on Long Island, just outside New York City, spending this Thanksgiving in the American heartland of Iowa was a truly unique experience and one that I will never forget. My 26 year old son, Kevin, has been living there for the past 5 months, and it was there that my wife, Laura, and I experienced the joy of a true miracle that comes from turning all problems over to the One Who knows the Truth.

Beginning the Journey

Yesterday I got a call from a young woman asking for help. She was so deeply depressed that she could barely talk on the phone. It started me thinking. What was the best way to help her? What was the best advice I could give? When someone hits rock bottom, whether from addiction, emotional problems or tragedy, where do they start to heal? How can they pick themselves up off the floor and get back on the right track? It seems to me that the best way I can help others in trouble is to tell them about how I healed — what worked for me.

Forgiveness

I think the opportunity to forgive is an opportunity to grow. We are a Spirit having a human experience in which there will be human mistakes. I like ACIM Chapter 23, section IV pg 496 on “Above the battleground.” This is where I can see the idea of forgiving myself for those thoughts. “Be lifted up, and from a higher place look down upon it. Here in the midst of it, it does seem real.
